The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Happy U.S. Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it!

Iā€™m hoping that Saurok will be able to one day celebrate Pilgrimā€™s Bounty and enjoy all the delicious food part of it, as well as other holidays in WoW! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Iā€™m ok with the idea of playable saurok, but Iā€™m in the air of what faction they should be. Obviously more lore needs to be made on who would try to recruit them and why.

I will note here alliance could use more monster races though.

I stand firm with my personal opinion that Saurok should be a Horde race for several reasons I noted in the main post of this megathread, though Iā€™ll give a brief abridged version here.

The Hordeā€™s theme really fits the backstory of Saurok, who were formerly slave soldiers of the Mogu, and there are some interesting parallels between Saurok and Orcs. I really donā€™t think they would fit well on Alliance at all, and theyā€™re more likely to be what makes a Saurok a Saurok on the Horde, if that makes any sense.

Obviously, Saurok would need to be fleshed out in many ways when designing them as a playable race as well as storyline reasons for them wanting to the Join the Horde and the Horde willing to accept them, but thatā€™s part of the fun of making new races. Many playable races were once enemy mooks, but they got some great world-building and became pretty neat playable races. The same could happen would Saurok someday if they get lucky enough to be promoted to playable race status. :lizard:

And I do agree that Alliance could use some more variety in their race selection. There are a few races I have in mind I do lean towards Alliance for one reason or another that I think would add a lot to that faction.

All of what I typed was in my own personal opinion, of course. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Having reached 80 Renown with the Venthyr covenant some time ago and with covenant swapping much simpler to do when you get to 80 Renown with any covenant, Iā€™ve switched to Necrolords for my main covenant now.

Originally, I had a character for each of the covenants to go through to see if there was anything of interest with any of them. It was getting a bit hard to go through four characters a week to keep up on Renown and such, however. With this new system, I can do it all on one character and swap freely as I see fit. Oddly enough, the covenants grumble at you for leaving them despite that the four covenants were suppose to be united and allied together. Go figure.

Of course, with 9.2 not adding any more Renown levels, it doesnā€™t seem like much will come with the covenants in general. Weā€™ll beat up the Jailer, theyā€™ll go ā€œShadowlands is free!!!ā€ and party, and weā€™ll go towards whatever the next expansion is at some point. I donā€™t really expect much else out of Shadowlands, but in the off chance I happen to see any other Saurok spirts than the one Iā€™ve reported on as I do Necrolords stuff, Iā€™ll be sure to report it here.

To be honest, I feel like Necrolords may be my favorite of the four covenants. Not just because itā€™s where Iā€™d expect Ogres and Saurok to go, of course. I think I like the aesthetics, the idea of them defending the Shadowlands, the arena with nonstop action, and all the slime building stuff. It seems like the most interesting of the covenants to me.

Something Iā€™ve been meaning to do is to look into the Abomination Factory. If I understand correctly, youā€™re suppose to build Abominations for spirits to go into. Who knows? Maybe I could create some for some Saurok spirits to reside in and help me fight stuff! Guess weā€™ll find out at some point.

Anyway, from now until the end of Shadowlands, I donā€™t really expect much, but whenever we see info on what comes next, Iā€™ll be sure to report it here and keep an eye out for anything of Saurok interest! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Not just kobolds but gnolls, centaurs and other races. This concept was applied to orcs, who are an always problematic race in various fantasy settings and yet we also see anime/cartoons where they are best portrayed as heroes, sauroks can too.
Even more so for not having any evil charge in their history.

If we saw sauroks working with humans, quilboars, vulperes and other races during BfA, thereā€™s no reason they canā€™t be members of the horde.

The variety Blizzard likes to offer the alliance includes things like junkgnomes, obese humans and purple bloode elves.
Things that most alienate and cause dislike of players for the disinterested, poor and lazy way it is done.

So when this fails to win playersā€™ appreciation, they donā€™t understand why the alliance loses any glamour, even when people in the horde mocking our homogenization is one of the reasons they donā€™t like the alliance and donā€™t even see anything good, be a good indication that our development is being delayed.

Itā€™s not a lack of options, but the developersā€™ goodwill, could Sethraks have been written for the alliance as vulperas were for the horde?
Yes, but the devs preferred to make fun of the alliance.
And that reinforces the chorus of mockers about why the alliance sucks.

And the devs donā€™t want to change that image as it involves giving something that can hurt this part of the horde who likes to puff out their chests and talk about how their faction is more fun and interesting than the annoying alliance.

Did you imagine the crying it would be if a race of dragonborns were exclusive to the ally? :smirk:

Have Mercy!

As Iā€™ve said before, a few playable races use to just be NPC mooks before getting fleshed out and becoming something much more as a playable race.

Dark Iron Dwarves use to just be maniacal evil Dwarves who were angry all the time, did a lot of evil things, and liked to blow themselves up. Now, theyā€™re more fleshed out to be something more than that, and itā€™s interesting to see the evolution of what they were and the love they got along with their storyline to become what they are now.

We even see this with some great candidates, such as the Kelfin. Given that Gilgoblins use to just be angry mooks who only cared about shiny treasure, to see them get fleshed out with the Kelfin is pretty awesome when you think about it. They still are really interesting candidates for a playable race.

Honestly, just about any NPC race could get the same treatment and become really great playable races, Saurok included. This especially since weā€™ve seen them working with other races and even respecting a temple as they visit it, among several other things Iā€™ve talked about throughout the megathread.

I know Iā€™ve gone into great detail about this point-of-view, but itā€™s an important one to point out and at least keep talking about occasionally. With a little love and fleshing out, Iā€™m sure Saurok would make for a really wonderful and popular playable Horde race with some interesting lore and storylines if given the chance! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Awhile back, I mentioned a type of lizard known as a ā€œtegu.ā€ I wanted to show them off in this post for Saurok idea inspiration. :lizard:

First some fact videos on them. If the first one doesnā€™t load, it seemed to work for me on 1080p HD quality and not any of the others for some reason:

Something of interest is that tegu are said to be intelligent. Theyā€™re capable of being house trained, learning their names, and apparently some owners have claimed to be able to form emotional bonds with them. Other types of reptiles are capable of this, like Iā€™ve shown with monitor lizards before. As such, I donā€™t see why Saurok wouldnā€™t be able to have emotions other than anger and hunger. Granted, I donā€™t expect them to be soft and cuddly, but they should be able to form bonds with others and have a decent amount of intelligence.

Tegu are also very voracious, often on the hunt for various types of food a lot of the time. Food, meat in particular, is something Iā€™ve suggested have a big importance in Saurok culture for various reasons. A full Saurok is a happy Saurok!

And of course, the scale color pattern is always something of interest with any reptile I show off in here for Saurok scale customization options. A lot of RL reptiles have some beautiful scale colors and patterns that would work really well for Saurok customization options.

You can never have enough inspiration for Saurok ideas! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Tegu are so neat. I used to interact with one at a nature center when I was younger. They are incredibly intelligent.

Iā€™d love some Tegu colorationsā€¦

Seems like this year flew by all of a sudden, didnā€™t it? Weā€™re almost to a new year!

Winter Veil should be arriving in-game on the 16th, I think. Iā€™m planning to take some festive screenshots as usual, but Iā€™m also possibly planning another Saurok screenshot story. One Iā€™ve had in my head for a long while, trying to work out in my head for a long time that I think could be somewhat fitting for Winter Veil. Iā€™ll see what I can do when I get the time.

Iā€™m also long overdue with updating the main posts of both my megathreads. Iā€™m hoping to be able to find some time to sit down, figure out what to add and revamp, and get to it. I think the forums updated again awhile ago, so hopefully when I do it, it wonā€™t make my megathreads look like the quadratic equation exploded.

Of course, with a new year, Iā€™m still planning to continue supporting playable Horde Saurok, Ogres, and other races I want to see on that character creation screen someday! But in the meantime, I hope whatever plans everyone has, yā€™all have a fun, happy, and safe Winter Veil!

As with every year, Iā€™ll be hoping to see a few races underneath my Winter Veil Tree!

Heres hoping.

Adding my own racial emblems Iā€™d also like to see under that tree.

:bear: (Furbolg) :christmas_tree: :eagle: (Alteraci)

(Changed my Kelfin one cause I realized you probably meant Kelfin with your goblin up there. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Yep, that is suppose to be a Kelfin there. The closest I can get to Kelfin with the forum emoji is this: :japanese_goblin::trident:

Those races I have there are ones I have character slots reserved for at present, some of which I have more than one slot reserved for that particular race, assuming we get lucky enough to see them playable. Could really use more character slots per account, though, as I only have about one or two more free slots left. < - <

Hopefully, weā€™ll see that character creation screen gradually filled with races people want playable as time goes on! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Suppose now I have a slot reserved for all of those plus my two there, Ethereals and Dark Rangers. Lol

I do hope they provide us those choices soon.

And yeahā€¦ Given theyā€™ve added so many races they need some feasible reasonable way to increase character slots.

Edit: I also have an Arakkoa slot! I forgot.

Speaking for myself, Iā€™d happily buy more slots for my main account. I donā€™t really want to pay twice the amount for multiple accounts (including sub fees, expansions, and the like) and maintain them both. Being able to purchase more character slots would feel like a big relief to me, since I love making characters, leveling them, and such. Moreso as we get more races and potentially classes in the future.

As it stands right now, I only have 1 or 2 free slots left. A few characters I have, Iā€™d consider rerolling if some races became playable. Iā€™m hoping I donā€™t have to take drastic measures in the future, though. I especially donā€™t want to delete anyone at all.

More character slots seem to be a popular request, so hopefully it will be considered in the near future in some way. Regardless, Iā€™ll always keep some slots ready in case certain races do become playable. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

For me this is exactly what I want.

Plus blizz would make plenty of money on me transferring several toons from my second account to my main one if they let me buy more slots on my main.

(though many are low enough in level Iā€™d just remake them.)

I really hope they do that.

Iā€™m at this point for two accounts.

Itā€™s really frustrating when gw2 letā€™s me buy as many toons as I wantā€¦ And they get their own last names

Theyā€™d make money off of me easilyā€¦ Iā€™m an altoholic to an extremeā€¦ Iā€™m literally only bound right now by the upgrading an account to the current expansion and the extra sub.

As am I. I love making characters, leveling them, designing transmogs for them, making backstories, and other things. I do have a main on both factions of course, but I still love all my characters. Itā€™s a reason I want to be able to have more slots on my account, since itā€™s mostly what I do when I play the game as opposed to grinding out end game stuff all the time. Itā€™s just more fun for me and keeps me playing.

WoW is near perfect for me in terms of race selection. Just a few more races becoming playable and Iā€™d be extremely satisfied with all of my characters and more likely to stick with the game long term. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

As I mentioned in my Stonemaul Ogre megathread, my copy of Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor on Amazon US is currently still planned for release on December 7th after having been delayed twice before, allegedly due to a paper shortage. Weā€™ll see if it actually does come out then, though last time, I didnā€™t find out until the day it was suppose to release in the first place. Weā€™ll see if it actually comes out then, I guess.

As a reminder, Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor is a book of information about alll of Kalimdor. It has Zekhan (Zappy Boy) and Rexxar walking the lands and reporting on their findings. In terms of Saurok, I donā€™t really expect anything, but there could be some interest in the Unā€™Goro Crater section, since it is a pretty fitting place for Saurok to reside. Not to mention that at least one Saurok does come there during that Unā€™Goro Madness micro holiday, not that I expect much said about him, if anything at all.

As I said, itā€™s unlikely that anything Saurok would be in it, but you never know. Best to not leave any stones unturned when it comes to Saurok research! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

So it seems Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor has come out, but Amazon US hasnā€™t actually shipped my copy despite being in a ā€œpreparing for shipmentā€ status since yesterday evening. Weā€™ll see how long it takes until it ships. Not that I expect anything Saurok related in it, but maybe something of interest could pop up in the Unā€™Goro Crater section. Also wouldnā€™t mind an Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria book, which I hope will be a consideration in the future.

With Winter Veil coming up, I did want to again share some screenshots I took last year again. You can see some general Winter Veil screenshots here:

And also part of the Silvermoon screenshots I took had a few Winter Veil aspects in it here:

Something I plan to do with the main post, whenever I get around to updating it, is to add posts of interests like all the screenshots I took, for example. Hopefully, Iā€™ll be able to find the time to sit down, see what needs revamped or added, and update it in the near future.

Of course, Iā€™ll be taking more this year to celebrate the occasion when Winter Veil arrives in-game on Retail. Still hoping to be able to take screenshots with a real Horde Saurok character someday! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Blizzard has a good chance of impressing players with the addition of sauroks as a playable race.
