In Everquest, the Tae-Ew were a formidable race!
I would love to see the Saurok given a poly upgrade and implemented.
They could hail from an undiscovered island; rich in kajaāmite.

Wow long post. I can get behind this idea. They can make a goblin venture co. short into unāgoro and they can say find kazanite there, mine it up and it effects the saurok living nearby. Just an idea lol.
Edit: To add on, maybe the horde find them end up being slaves to venture co. and seeing a reflection of what they where in the past goes and tries to save them.
The use of kajamite and kajaāCola is a good possibility in explaining how playable Saurok may have more intelligence. I remember this being suggested a long time ago, near the beginning of this megathreadās creation:
And itās still a neat idea today.
If we assume that the playable Saurok tribe would have left Pandaria, itās possible that they couldāve either come across kajamite or kajaācola sunken or floating in crates in the ocean. Itās also possible they couldāve stopped on Kezan and/or the Lost Isles, raided the area, found some of both, and gained intelligence that way, then left because Kezan wasnāt really fun to try to live on and the volcano on the Lost Isles made things a bit too hot for the Saurokās tastes.
Itās a short and sweet way to explain intelligent Saurok, along with the idea that having pludered some Mogu artifacts also gave them intelligence or even just an evolution of Saurok based on the magic used in creating them.
They were definitely ones to be feared! Some may prefer to eat zilla, but we generally prefer to love zilla instead.
Mogu are one of the most meany races in Azeroth!
If they live, mogus hate it.
They even outnumber the nagas, who are fanatical servants of Azshara and see all races as inferior.
Mogu in turn, see even other mogu unfavorably.
P.S.: Happy Bithday Saurok Megathread!
Iāve been wanting to look into armor styles on different lizardmen races across media and wanted to ask that if anyone has any images or videos to show off to please feel free to post them here.
When trying to achieve inspiration for Saurok designs, one good way is to show off different armor designs. Iāve read that Blizzard may have looked into fan art when designing new playable races, something I saw mentioned from Gnomest in another thread, and I figured that while sharing fan art is great (as long as the artist is properly credited of course), actual lizardmen armor from different media would also work well.
Iām also specifically on the hunt for examples of bone armor. I really like the idea of Saurok valuing a hunt by utilizing all parts of their kills. Meat to consume to become stronger and bones being used for tools, weapons, and armor. If anyone happens to know of any, please feel free to show it in here.
I did find a few videos showcasing some types of armor. The following two videos show off Argonians from ESO, a race I plan to do a full post on like Iāve done with other lizardmen races, and the first involves āElder Argonianā armor styles.
The second video shows off some general armor styles in ESO for Argonians and was uploaded back in 2014, so Iām unsure how updated the armor has gotten since then. It also shows off a few racials in that game.
Iāll be on the lookout for any other lizardmen related armor to share. There are plenty of examples out there, I am sure.
On another note, I recently got Total War: Warhammer 2 on sale on Steam, which Iām really happy about. I havenāt had time to try it out and dominate the world with the Lizardmen army yet, but I plan to eventually. Iām also seriously thinking of looking into getting into Age of Sigmar with a Seraphon armyā¦at least, when I can afford it.
Speaking of which, I found another lore related video of Seraphon, so Iāll go ahead and link for some Saurok inspiration:
There are some neat designs and imagery in there in addition to the lore. Some of the Seraphon are even wearing skull helmets! They seem to have a humerus sense of fashion!
Iām also hoping to go over the main post of this megathread again to see if any sections need revamps or anything else to add. Iām open to suggestions if anyone has any. Again, I want to thank everyone for their support. It is very much appreciated!
More Saurok research to continue in the future!
DnD and Warhammer lizardmen often make armor from bones and their kills. Iād start there.
I think that concept is one Iād love to see with a Saurok race in wow. It would amusingly make the Tauren like them some more since their lifestyle revolves around hunting as well.
I think Saurok would get along with a lot of hunters of the Horde, in particular the ones with a tribal-like society. The majority of the Horde enjoy hunting and do it for practical reasons other than sport, and I could see Saurok developing a friendly rivalry with other Horde hunters. Not to mention all the meat recipes Saurok would bring with them would likely make them really popular. Also, in a Horde base that hunts nearby wildlife, Saurok could always forage for spices and such to add some much needed flavor to the food. It beats flavorless Horde rations, for sure.
Of course, between Tauren and Saurok, I donāt see the Saurok nearly as attuned to nature. At best, I could see more intelligent Saurok realize that they canāt just overhunt and decimate habitats which would lead species to extinction, so if anything, they would help nature and the ecosystem to keep meat sources in check. Would be a way to explain Saurok Druids if Blizzard decided to go that route, though I personally donāt see Saurok Druids as a thing.
On another note, I did have this neat video pop up in my YouTube recommendations. Itās bearded dragon related, showing one off in the wild while also going over some facts of bearded dragons in general. Here is the video:
I think Iāve talked about bearded dragons before, but this is still a cool video. You can never have too many reptile facts when it comes to getting playable Saurok ideas!
Iāve read that Blizzard may have looked into fan art when designing new playable races, something I saw mentioned from Gnomest in another thread, and I figured that while sharing fan art is great (as long as the artist is properly credited of course), actual lizardmen armor from different media would also work well.
Thats right. Blizzard has gone on record saying that during the development stages of making new wow content, they look at fan art for ideas.
#Saurok2020
Makes me wish I had the ability to actually draw and do art. I doubt drawing Saurok as stick figures would lead to very much. Hopefully my ideas in text and linking to images and videos of official works would be of help, for whatever it is worth.
Also had this video pop up in my YouTube recommendations involving the Nile Monitor. Despite the teaser at the beginning, noone was hurt and the lizard was not harmed at all. Facts about this lizard are given after it gets caught:
Itās a meat eater and it can cause damage with whipping its tail, but the cool thing is that its tail is designed in such a way that it helps it swim by acting as a propeller. It also has sharp claws used for digging.
It does reinforce my opinion that Saurok should be good swimmers and enjoy swimming in water, aside from just catching fish and such in it of course. If they ever became playable, I could see some hanging out in Orgrimmar near the waterfall area, close to where the Tauren have set up their area, or where the fishing trainer and Vulpera areā¦and no, they wouldnāt mess with Dolly and Dot lest they face the nightmare that is an angry Nisha.
It would be neat to see some of them basking on rocks in the area as well, like the one image I took for my Saurok ambassador story many posts ago:
Speaking of sleeping, if playable Saurok used the Worgen model, this is how the male would look sleeping. Most real life lizards I can find sleeping online just seem to plunk themselves down, kinda similar to how male Pandaren sleep. This is about the closest I can find of a lizard curling up to sleep:
I donāt expect sleeping Saurok to look cuddly like the Vulpera when they go to sleep, but if they happen to ever get new models built from the ground up, Iām donāt know if they would curl up at all or just flop down. Guess Iāll have to sleep on it.
More Saurok research to continue in the future!
At the moment the computer I did my last two projects on is broken down due to a bad motherboard, but I have everything backed up. Didnāt loose one ounce of data as I do everything on a separate hard drive. However I will need to get a new computer.
Iām sorry to hear that. I hope youāre able to get a new computer ASAP. I always worry about mine randomly crapping out even if I take good care of it.
So awhile back, I mentioned making posts of what Saurok can do for the Horde. I decided to do different parts of them in separate posts so I can focus on each part when I can.
The first thing the Saurok can offer the Horde are natural climbing abilities.
In-game, Saurok are capable of climbing up different types of walls. Most notable would be mountainsides, as evident from the Viletounge Saurok. Wowpedia says this about them:
āThe Viletongue tribe of saurok that attack Thunderpaw Overlook and Thunderpaw Refuge in The Jade Forest during A Brewing Storm. They are prodigious climbers, as they scale the mountainside with ease to waylay travelers.ā
Saurok were also known to climb the mountainside to get rid of a previous Mogu emperor, shown in a specific part of āThe Dark Heart of the Moguā achievement (which I talked about a few posts ago):
"From his perch high on the cliffs overlooking the Krasarang Wilds he oversaw the slow clear-cutting of the jungle, the establishment of Dojanni Dungeons, and the gradual genocide of the saurok race.
What he didnāt expect was for the remains of the saurok fifth and seventh legions to scale the enormity of the cliffs in the dead of night, ambushing his imperial pavilion from the Valley of Four Winds and forcing him over the edge. His body was never found, and the resulting disarray in the capitol left the empire in chaos for over two years while the saurok melted back into the wilds and disappearedā¦"
In real life, many lizards are capable of being great climbers. Some climb trees and such while some climb walls, like this gecko and monitor lizard here:
In terms of geckos, this explains how theyāre able to go on walls so easily:
Now getting back to Saurok, I donāt know if they would have the ability to climb like geckos, but the point still stands that theyāre able to climb very easily on surfaces.
So how is this useful for the Horde? A few reasons.
Letās pretend youāre part of a Horde raid force. Youāve only got Stormwind to raid and need the boy-kingās head to finish off that alliance leader kill achievement. You even brought a shiny new pike to place the head on! You mount up, go up to the gate, andā¦find that the gate was closed.
What jerks the Alliance are! Howās a Horde suppose to bring blood and thunder when bested by a wooden gate?! You can try to fly in, but the Alliance have anti-air units ready to knock you off the air. You can try to break the gate open, but that will let the Alliance know youāre there and youāre sitting ducks. Whats a Horde member suppose to do?!
Enter the Saurok! A bunch of Saurok Rogues can sneak in by either climbing the gates or the mountainsides nearby. They then sneak to where the gate mechanisms are, knock out anyone in the area, and then are able to open the gates. Sneaking into Stormwind has been done before, and with the canals in the city, Saurok could even swim through it, climb up the walls, and quietly pull guards into the water. Theyāll sink with full armor on and the Saurok will get a quick snack to munch on. There are many ways for Saurok to sneak through the city to cause some problems for the Alliance.
Another example would be Alliance ships. If Saurok can climb mountainsides, then it stands to reason they could swim stealthily up to Alliance ships, pull crew members overboard into the water, and then slowly work on boarding it while other Horde units move in. Theyāll have the ship surrounded both on top and in the water below in case any enemies fall in the water. Of course, they can help any allies that fall in the water as well.
Now, in terms of game mechanics, I donāt expect to go all Breath of the Wild with Saurok. The game isnāt really designed for players to climb every wall in general. These scenarios I presented are mostly meant for NPC events and worldbuilding. Something that just seems cool when you see it occur or read about it in a story, for example.
These are just a few examples of what Saurok can offer the Horde as natural climbers. Neat, isnāt it? Iāll be thinking of other things they can offer and make more posts in the future, since Saurok would make really useful allies.
More Saurok research to continue in the future!
That would be a very useful and enjoyable racial!
Well, as I said, I donāt think WoW is designed for climbing. Usually, you use an item or click an object to defy the laws of physics to jump or climb things in the game. Itās hard for me to imagine that being a mechanic, as youād have to work with a lot of walls in the world to get it to workā¦not to mention walls that are suppose to keep players out of things.
On a similar note, I found this lizard from a video I linked in the Sethrak megathread that can glide. Itās called the ādraco lizard.ā They even have a dewlap like Saurok do.
In terms of Saurok, I donāt really see them having a gliding ability. At best, maybe it would be NPC feature for some Saurok that isnāt available to players. Still, it does remind me of how Saurok are capable of jumping really high across long distances in-game.
Just some neat videos I wanted to share. You never know if they will inspire some Saurok ideas, PC or NPC.
Well, weāre two days away from our one-year anniversary. Iām hoping to do another story post, similar to my Saurok ambassador post, though Iāve been getting my butt kicked in terms of free time thanks to my summer class. Iām also going to look over the megathread post one more time over in case I canāt edit it past the 19th.
So just for fun, Iām going to type up some about what Iāll do if by a Winterās Veil miracle, Saurok happen to become a playable race. Note that Iām not one to count my chickens before they are hatched, but if anything, it could inspire other megathreads to have plans in case their wanted races become playable.
Obviously, a celebration would occur, more than likely in this thread as opposed to making a brand new thread, but the main thing that would occur is looking for information. Class options, racials, jokes and flirts, what female Saurok look like, and Saurok creation videos are good examples. Iād also be trying to find the storylines of how they ended up joining their respective faction (hopefully it would be Horde) while discussing it here and doing a countdown to when they would be officially released (when a date is given, of course).
After their official release date, I would of course make my Saurok characters and post pictures and transmogs iād use, along with seeing others share their own Saurok characters. If anyone would be interested, Iād try to form a photo shoot of us gathering on our Saurok characters and take pictures to share here as well.
Past that? Well, if the thread still had some traction, Iād talk more about Saurok storylines and NPCās, share progress on my Saurok characters, and see what the future holds for Saurok in general.
Anyway, as I said, this post was just for fun. Seeing playable Horde Saurok is still a pipedream for me that Iāll continue to support as best as I can, as much of an uphill battle it still is.
Still, a Darkspear Troll can dreamā¦a Darkspear Troll can dreamā¦
Iād take mine and get screencaps of him in every food market I can find. Waving, pointing, enjoying himself.
Finally he has access to cultures worth of new foods to try!
Then Iād do some pictures of him hunting. With the Tauren. With the Highmountain, with the Orcs, The trolls. And write little stories about how he views the other cultures and their hunting, and their preyā¦
yessss. Heād be a hunter most likeā¦ Probably with cooking at max.
I changed the Heart of Azeroth animation section to be a general player-only animation section, adding screenshots Iāve shown before of Saurok swimming backwards and fishing. I also added a part at the beginning stating that if Blizzard ever decides to add playable Horde Saurok, that theyāre welcome to use any ideas Iāve presented.
On that note, Iāve said this before in a few other megathreads and I donāt remember if I said it here, but Iāll mention it again: Speaking only for myself, Iām not in this for fame. I donāt need to be part of WoW history. I also donāt need any special recognition, such as this character becoming a NPC with a āspeaker of Saurok/Ogresā title while wearing a cheerleader outfit with my crocolisk and crab pets dancing with pom-pomās. A lot of the work I do for megathreads Iāve supported is because I legitimately want those races playable. Plus, itās fun for me to do.
If we ever got playable Saurok and Ogres, I would not take any credit for them becoming playable. I would moreso just be interested in seeing their stories and features while just being happy to finally get races I wanted playable for so long.
Besides, itās not just me running the show. People have shown their support throughout the megathreads for races they want, and this one is no exception. I could not do this without the support of others, so I am very grateful for those that have helped show their support for playable Saurok.
Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of this thread. I may have to wait to do my picture story post (college workā¦blehā¦), but I should hopefully get the time to do it soon. Hopefully, we wonāt have to wait for years to see playable Saurok, but Iāll continue to march for them as best as I can.
This just gave me the idea of a fun toy. Summoning a huge plate with a chunk of meat on it with a bone in the middle. It would cause your player to pick it up and quickly munch on it, tossing the bone back on the plate when done where they both disappear. It wouldnāt recover health and would just be for fun, but it seems very fitting for some races, such as Ogres and Saurok.
I actually considered taking pictures of my Saurok and Ogre characters, if they ever became playable, to show their leveling adventures with captions and such to tell a story. I think it would be fun. Especially with my Ogre character I had in mind, in which I could make it very humorous.
Thatās why youāre one of the coolest people on the forum.
You donāt just take care of your megathread, keeping your place active, but you also honor other peopleās threads.
You must be one of the most positive people who attend the forum.
And I know that everyone who came here, showing appreciation and collaborating with observations, suggestions and questions, hope that sauroks will become a reality.
Happy one year anniversary, everyone! Hard to believe it weāve been going for one year. I know that Iām not going to quit anytime soon.
Iām hoping to get some time to take some Saurok screenshots for a story Iāve been planning for awhile, though Iāve been very busy with college for the most part. Still, I have a couple of videos to share.
I found more videos showing off some lizards with beautiful scale patterns that could work for some Saurok customization options. I linked one before, though these are different, and some of the lizards I have talked about before, but there are still some neat scale patterns shown.
Lizards in general shown here:
And some more cool scale patterns based on iguanas here:
You can never have enough inspiration for Saurok customization options!
I also want to thank everyone again for all their support. As I mentioned, I could not do all this alone, and Iām thankful that many people have come to show support for playable Horde Saurok. Your support has kept me going, and while this megathread doesnāt guarantee theyāll ever be playable, I still believe that showing support of some kind is better than silently hoping. Thank you all for coming here to support playable Saurok!
I know that Iāll continue to hold my banner high for playable Horde Saurok. WoW could use a playable lizardman race, and with any luck, weāll see Saurok possibly become playable someday. I still dream of seeing Saurok wandering through Orgrimmar as part of the Horde. Iāll keep on supporting them as best as I can and will continue to hope that my dream becomes a reality.
As always, more Saurok support and research to continue in the future!
This may have already been brought up before, but Iād LOVE to see the option for a curly Chameleon tail.
