The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

I want to point out that pre blood elf quel’thelas high elves shouldn’t be viewed as a high elf in the modern term.

For all intents and purposes they possess the culture and attitude of those that would become blood elves and not those that remained with the alliance.

But with Void Elves it isn’t even, “My model.”

It’s just, “My color palette.”

Yes. Once the separation of High Elves and Blood Elves occurred that is when “High Elves” as a race matters to anyone that isn’t a Night Elf.the Troll ancestry image should honestly split at the Blood Elf point to Blood Elves and High Elves.

I honestly think it’s the existence of Void Elves that will keep them from making High Elves playable. I just can’t see them putting two races with the exact same base model on one side … but WAIT!

Tauren and Highmountain Tauren look exactly the same except for their horn size. Even upright orcs and mag’har look pretty much the same. And who can tell a real human from a worgen in human form?

I digress.

‘Only Horde gets to be an Autumn.’

This won’t be the case for long considering we will undoubtedly get taunka in the future possibly even yuangol while alliance gets variants of dwarves.

I’ll take “Theories coming out of left field with no foundation in fact” for $1000, Alex!

Oh look. Daily double.

People have wanted playable High Elves since Beta. That’s 17 years, 1 year of discussing it on the Forums is nothing.

aye. It has been talked about on and off since beta.

It has gone on for this long because there is now a very good chance of it happening with the allied race system being a thing. High elves are the literal poster child of what an allied race is.

The omission of Taunka as a playable race or even being featured as members of the Horde forces is one of the biggest missteps in playable races Blizz has made. It’s 2nd only to not adding High Elves years ago, IMO.

I think this is handled by canon wise the taunka were given control of most of the horde bases in northrend following the end of wrath. They garrison them as they are suited for the environment. We have had taunka rarely show up with the horde for other campaigns but nothing of an actual taunka force.

I mean, to be fair, High Elves having a completely different reaction to that event is sort of why they’re High Elves and Blood Elves are a different thing

But I mean, you’re saying all these things like it should be a shock or a surprise or something, but my main’s a gnome. And you know how long gnomes got ignored for with no story development?

3 expansions

So if 3 expansions go by with no HElf development, you’ll have a point, but if a playable race can be repeatably ignored and sidelined for that length of time, well…

I still don’t get this obsession with High Elves. We have too many as it is. Night Elves, Blood Elves and Void Elves. We don’t need any more playable ones.

I mean, I’d want to remove Void Elves from the game entirely if I had my way

But High Elves have storyline and are basically the Alliance equivalent of ogres at this point. The faction who keeps showing up and helping us, but isn’t playable

That is your opinion. The “too many elves” thing is just a myth.

and tbh there are only 2 types of elves left to add.

High elves for alliance and san’layn for horde. I know other undead elves exist but compared to san’layn they are basically forsaken but elves instead of human. At least san’layn have their own culture and goals.

And that is “your opinion” as well.

ogres helping the horde is practically meme status at this point.

It was either the pre legion event or bfa event that had an ogre show up with a cart of boulders that when spoken to says he brought all of his best throwing rocks to help the horde.

??? that isn’t an opinion. That is an objective fact. there are 2 types of elves left unless blizzard invents more.

Gotta build up your Elfmunities, my friend

A good healthy dose of 2nd Edition Dungeons and Dragons has gotten me to the point I can take exactly 4 more types of elf in the game before I break out into a fever, and one of those is just because I liked that naga elf stuff that got flung around a week or so ago

(High Elves, Naga Elves, Undead Elves, and Worgen Elves But So Help Me You’d Better Go Overboard On Making Them Look Bloody Savage are the four I could take incidentally)

if blizzard wants to make those 2 canon I would be down for them to be playable.

I agree though night elf worgen better be the most feral, savage thing ever or they can F right off.
