The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

And then you have the void elves on the alliance, which I believe were made to contrast or be contrasted by the holy elves narritive. There is the added fact that they will likely increase in number by drawing large numbers from the magic users of Silvermoon, those who aren’t necessarily fully down with the holy. This will probably further solidify blood elves as holy elves.

I was referring to the time high elves came up and Ion told us that if we wanted to play one, roll horde.

Chill man, I’m on your side. I hated that interview and its inaccuracies just as everyone else in this thread.

It’s got the laylines going. But the major thing about the old Sunwell is that it was sparked by waters from the well of eternity. Now it’s sparked by a Naaru.

So you’ve got your Sun and your “Night” elves on the Horde and your Light Draenei and Shadow Elves on the Alliance.

Poor real Night Elves. Getting their gimmick taken.

I think you mean the sunwell there. >.>

<.< Yeah. But I’m not wrong there either though.

According to Warcraft Chronicles the Sunwell is made of both Holy Light and Arcane Magic.

I find it funny, how you all like using the Warcraft Chronicles when you want to prove facts about your High Elves. Yet completely disregard it when it comes to Blood Elves.

Nah. We’re just talking about it.

We know about Warcraft Chronicles.

I was just pointing it out because I was writing something.

I don’t care if Blood Elves get glowie blue eyes. I’d use them.

I do care if it was a soft glow instead of the harder glow you get with Blood Elves or Void Elves eyes.

That soft glow is a High Elf thing.

I’d like it if Elven Mages eyes were colored the same as their magical school.

Red/Blue/Light Blue.

For each elven race.

Hey, don’t look at us, we’re just observing what Blizzard are doing. I think it’s silly that they’re making every race so one dimensional, but it certainly seems like they’re hellbent on doing just that.

(Seriously, writers at Blizzard: nuance is nice. Complex societies are good. Stop making all races be represented by a single class. It’s bad and it’s weird.)

I personally couldn’t care what color eyes Blood Elves had green, gold, red, blue, purple. Big eyes, small eyes, upside down eyes, or inside out eyes.

I get tired of seeing this The Sunwell is only Holy light that’s why Blood Elves were given Gold Eyes, and will never get Blue Eyes. When the Warcraft Chronicles states it’s both Holy and Arcane.

You also say that soft glowing eyes are just for the High Elves. I think that Blood Elf Hunters, Rogues, warriors etc. those that don’t actually use magic should have access to softer glowing eyes than those that do.

I don’t think any race should have exclusivity to anything. The whole this is my eye color, this is my skin tone, just needs to stop. Blood Elves pale skinned Elves with warm undertones. High Elves pale skinned Elves with cool undertones. Blood Elves should have access to warm blue eye colors while High Elves get the cool blue eye colors.

I mean, I can fully appreciate your sentiment over exclusive skin tones, eye colours. In essence I agree with you. It’s a pretty arbitrary argument when friend or foe is easily determined by red or green letters overhead the character, after all.

That being said though, the roots of that discussion about physical traits specific to Blood or High Elves comes from, funnily enough, people who object to the idea of High Elves as an Allied Race. The argument there is that High Elves look too similar to Blood Elves, and that it would essentially be copying a Horde race to the Alliance.

And, don’t get me wrong, I can sympathise with that sentiment. It’s not an argument I particularly, personally value, since I think there should be opportunities for races on either side to switch over given the right circumstances in the story. But it seems the majority of people who are invested enough in this topic to comment one way or the other don’t agree with me on that, and they want clear, identifiable races based on physical traits.

So essentially the entire discussion was born from there. If High Elves are too physically similar to Blood Elves to make a plausible Allied Race, how do we make them more diverse? What traits could High Elves potentially have that Blood Elves might not? On so on. (And there’s been some bloody incredibly research done in this regard tbh, I’m still amazed at how much lore some of the folks in this thread have pulled up and used to help worldbuild around High Elves. It’s been really cool watching those discussions tbh)

The issue you raised about chronicles and the Sunwell being Arcane and Light energies doesn’t really involve High Elves all that much, since High Elves have been pretty removed from the Sunwell narrative for a while now. That’s a Blood Elf thing.

And like I said in my previous post, it’s Blizzard that’s pushing the Blood Elf - Light relationship now. If you have an issue with that, then by all means, I think it’s justified…but it’s really not got much to do with High Elves.

Now these jokes. I would love to see within the High Elf Race itself. XD

I want one with the High Elf female voice actress* imitating Tychus Findlay: “High Elves, it’s about time!”

*who would no doubt be somewhat soft spoken and completely incapable of doing a decent job, making it all the sillier.

EDIT: Either that or just getting Neil Kaplan to come and voice the line and throw it randomly in the High Elf /silly lines. Which would be glorious.

Yea or She would say: “For the Alliance!”

Question? You say that that Blizzard pushing Gold Eyes on Blood Elves, and the whole the Sunwell is now Holy has nothing to do with High Elves. Yet many High Elf supporters constantly use it as an excuse to keep blue eyes exclusively to themselves. If it has nothing to do with High Elves why is it alway brought up as a reason why Blood Elves shouldn’t have Blue Eyes?

I can understand trying to find differences to appease the whole, we cannot tell the good guys from the bad guys. Yeah because the color over their head doesn’t tell you. That’s how I’ve always told the difference.
Seeing the whole High Elves are to similar to Blood Elves, that’s why you got the blueberries line of thinking is just ridiculous and needs to stop. You put that Void Elf in full armor and a helmet, unless you are looking at the name plate you won’t know the difference.

I don’t have any problem with Blood Elves getting Blue Eyes, as long with come with or after High Elves introduction, because many people who want it isn’t looking for the blue eye itself, but instead looking for one way to come here to mock us even more:

I’m fine with them, only adds the incentive for Blizzard to shut them down by adding blue eyes to blood elves and/or killing off the rest in the Alliance that aren’t voided out.

Blizzard eventually gives blood elves blue eyes and is done with it. Effects the largest amount of the playerbase that way. No way to make everyone happy, but the blood elves are the main body of the high elves.

I think you’re conflating an issue that happens around here that goes like this:

Anti-High-Elf advocate, usually a pallymcpwn alt, comes demanding blue eyes for blood elves… in the High Elves thread. Not like, out in general. They come here because they believe that if Blood Elves with blue eyes will undercut high elves.

This typically happens simultaneously as they insist that Blood Elves ARE high elves.

To which we point out the recent trend that as far as Blizzard is leaning, they’re all gonna get gold eyes and not blue eyes.

Nobody’s just trying to wreck Blood Elves days here. The context is important.

It’s like saying, “He hit my car with a hammer.” and ignoring that you were running him over with your car.

Ooooh are we doing silly Emotes again? Love those.

Male:

  • “I’ve actually forgotten how old I am. When people ask I usually answer with how I feel. Most mornings when I first wake up I feel as if I were around for the Sundering.”
  • “I wish people would stop asking me what I smoke. I’m not that kind of, ‘High,’ Elf.”
  • “Let me tell you a story of a great Ranger of legend, which all Rangers aspire to be! His name was Legolath, and he once took down an Elekk with a single arrow.”
  • “For the last time, I am a High Elf, not a Blood Elf. Do you see my eyes glowing green? No? Then I’m not a Blood Elf!”
  • “Void Elf? Not even for the discounts they get at the Ethereals. Honestly I think that discount is more out of pity than anything else; nothing looks good on them. Talk about being cursed.”

Females:

  • “The best millennium of any girl’s life is between the ages of 299 and 300.”
  • “Human men need to back off. I am NOT interested. Do I LOOK like my last name is Windrunner?!”
  • “Look, if I was going to be interested in anyone other than another High Elf, It’d be a Night Elf. There’s just something hot about them. Oh that came out wrong! I wasn’t talking about Teldrassil!”
  • “The last man to tell me to make him a Sandwich got his wish. I just love the Polymorph spell…”
  • “Why would you want a Void Elf? I mean, if you want to be with crazy, you’re going to have a very good time at first, and then a very BAD time forever afterwards.”
