The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

It seems to only get really active when this thread does. Like it is some sort of competition.

So with the recent interviews it shows that they are unlikely to make another new model like kulā€™tirans and that literally anything is still an option at this point.

This is good news for High Elf/Wildhammer/Forest Trolls/Broken fans but bad news for people that want brand new stuff.

At least they showed some information on Allied Races to tailor our request too.

Ogres seem like the main thing thatā€™d need a new animation rig. Or at least modifying the existing one.

Models are pretty simple to make compared to the slew of animations required. I think thatā€™s what you meant though. Heck, Iā€™d imagine even Ogres could use the KT rig in the same way Mokā€™nathal could.

Vrykul would certainly need a better rig, but no reason they couldnā€™t just use the KT rig and scale them up in size. They are directly related anyway. Would also solve the stupid hunch.

Is there anything thatā€™s been requested that couldnā€™t be achieved using an existing animation rig?

Honestly? oversize the male hunched orc skeleton for the male vrykul then change there movement and skeletal animations to suit those of the vrykul NPCs.

Kul tiran models are now able to wear most helms in PTR, and guess what? A fully armored kul tiran looks like an ogre. Itā€™s really weird, I see an ogre there.

Sounds like itā€™d work just fine then =-]

nooo get rid of the hunch =P
Makes sense as well, the Vrykul are based on orcs. Would be fine with me as long as I get to play one.

Rexxar works beautifully with the KT model. I donā€™t see why Ogres wouldnā€™t work with it.

And sorry to say, I do not think they would remove the hunch on Vrykul.

aye. Bad news for arrakoa fans.

Ogres and sethrak still work though as they are largely ready for use.

Just need to fix clipping issues and make helms compatible with them. They have the animations already.

And yet you did it anyway. Iā€™m reminded of the discussion here on the prior ā€˜megaā€™ when one fan was in tears over the idea of alliance helves being ridiculed. The Helfers can claim no high ground or superiority.

well we have made no move to claim that we are superior over other people.

Ogres use the Moonkin animations so thereā€™s some (small) hope for Arrakoa given Zandalari Moonkin are, well, Arrakoa.

(Honestly Iā€™d stick the male ogres with the Moonkin animations we all know and love and let the females share the KT animation set)

Remember to call them High Arrakoa theres two species to the name remember, High are the originals living in the peaks the Zandalari dinomancer form users and the first model ones that are cursed by the blood of sethe who are basically the nice shadow users that made more sense as good guy void users then the void elves.

No offence but who honestly cares about being ā€œSuperiorā€?

Itā€™s a completely childish notion like lumping everyone in the same boat over their opinions on a fictional race of elves.

Donā€™t you know? We are a hivemind apparently!

If they really knew these threads, they would know we argue with each other on implementation way more than they argue with us about them being playable.

I basically backed up ours a little bit in that thread, but I decided not to post any further as it inevitably got ugly. They havenā€™t a leg to stand on and if we donā€™t entertain them then the thread will probably die down again.

So I say just let them have their thread. If they come here in ill spirit, donā€™t engage, merely report them when appropriate so we can keep things on track and civil.

Eh, Kul Tirans needed more work than any other race. They reused assets for other ARs namely the Night Elf model, so even giving High Elves the Night Elf rig should be no sweat, as that was what they did early on with Blood Elves.

Though if Undead Night Elves became a thing, unaltered High Elves would be fair game.

At this point I wouldnā€™t be surprised to see Ogres made into a playable race using the Kul Tiran skeleton. Rexxar is already the leader of the Hordeā€™s main clan of Ogres; the Stonemaul.

Thatā€™d be the second time the Horde attained an Alliance Skeleton for an Allied Race, third if you want to count Nightborne and Zandalari are two separate uses of an Alliance skeleton (Night Elf).

Granted, much like High Elves, I have no qualms with the re-use of the skeleton/model as the Horde should have access to Ogres. Ideally forest trolls as well, though Iā€™m not sure what model they could base those off of. Itā€™d probably have to be Orcs.

You know your only continuing to make yourself look bad just by pushing and pushing back.

Sometimes I think Anti HEers have no respect or feelings for anything other than just being soulless pathetic trolls.

Just donā€™t reply to them. It works for me. I try to avoid any conversation in this thread that doesnā€™t pertain to High Elves in some form.

To bring us around to the main topic of conversation (High Elves), Iā€™m still hopeful weā€™ll see them take up the classes of Shamans and Druids. Druid would of course be something learned through the Night Elves. With Teldrassil gone I could see the Night Elves starting to look to teach other Alliance races the art. Who knows how many Druids were lost to the flames.

I think Shamanism is where the High Elves could shine and be something more unique. Theyā€™d be the only elven Shamans, and while theyā€™d learn from the Wildhammers, I think theyā€™d ultimately have to branch out into their own form of it, simply because Dwarves should innately have an easier time being Shamans considering their origins. Comparatively, elves lack that innate connection to the world Dwarves have.

I think High Elven Shamans could focus strongly on the element of Shamanism that isnā€™t commonly portrayed; Spirit. In Chronicles Volume I, under the page on Elemental Duality, Spiritā€™s positive trait is Bravery (Iā€™d say sticking with your allies and fighting despite being a people bordering on extinction is brave) and the negative trait is Naivete (which, for a people just starting to learn Shamanism, feels like itā€™d apply fairly well).

But core races could still be added, out of the Allied Race system if Blizzard intend to, itā€™s unlikely because it take much more effort and work to implement, but better than making actual unique races like vrykul and ogres with modified existing models.

Arakkoa as a core race! Do it Blizzard, even if it takes 10 years.
