The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

well i was just reading in another thread how the chinese and oceanic realms are alliance heavy, whereas the usa is horde heavy.

the chinese like elves and so do the oceanic. third elf faction siphons belves and nightborne from horde, helping usa alliance. and siphons nelfs and velfs from alliance helping chinese and european horde.

it hurts being this smart. hehehehe

Would be interesting.
I could see them doing either one, but doubt they’d do it =[

They better have paladins! I want a high elf priest and paladin character. Right now mine is lightforged paladin and void elf priest. I would much rather have 2 high elves instead.

There probably will be a massive Nerf. I find it funny how players kneejerk. I hope they make embrace of the loa utility buffs.

I hope so too or Assaults on Alliance will be hell! But way easy for my horde!

If they did a third faction, no one would play it. It would hardly have the balancing impact we would hope. I’m afraid the time for that is passed and players would not like to have their characters assigned to another faction.

Void Elves

Blood Elves

Void Elves

Half-elves are just humans with pointy ears both in culture/values, and aesthetics just look at turalyons son (even if he does look more elven).

My point is, High elves no longer have an identity, nor a story to explore in the game left. They just take away screen time from other actually playable races. Void Elves were the compromise, there’s no need to do more.

Every race currently in game would be more accurate.

Opinions are always suspect, and that is an opinion only. There are many stories that could be explored using High Elves.

The rationales for third faction was initially:

  1. issue of non-blood elf horde players constantly complaining about the over population of blood elves in the horde.
  2. non blood elf horde players claiming the blood elves don’t belong in the horde. and this is said over and over again, year after year. meanwhile.
  3. non blood elf horde players calling blood elves bimbos, vain, barbie dolls, shallow, for years they’ve been doing this.
  4. non elf horde players complaining about nightborne elves because they dont want more elves.
  5. night elves who are emotionally impacted by the teldrassil genocide, are not happy with either the alliance or the horde. in fact, tyrande has basically already rebelled. also horde leaders are not happy with sylvannas. i could see lor’themar and thalyrssa basically saying - hey lets get outta here
  6. the city of suramar is so flippin awesome, i would make a new elf just so i could have it as her home/starting city. new players would be so impressed.
  7. the population issues (too many horde in usa, too many alliance in oceanic and china)

I’m sorry I just don’t agree with your opinions. I believe there’s a lot of story to tell regarding High Elves and Half Elves, and you just seem to be hand waving away anything that contests your position.

Void Elves may have been put forward as a “compromise” but they failed spectacularly in placating High Elf fans because they do not fulfill the High Elf fantasy in any way, shape, or form. If anything Blizzard left the possibility open for High Elves being their own allied race by having Void Elves originate from Blood Elves instead of just flat out “void-erizing” all the Alliance Allied High Elves.

You don’t get to decide is there’s a “need to do more” or not. That’s up to Blizzard. And regardless, we will keep asking for what we want until we get it or WoW ceases to exist. We want High Elves and we’re going to keep asking for them and there’s not a darn thing you can do about it.

So you better be prepared to keep debating the issue for the foreseeable future, because we’re all certainly prepared to keep offering rebuttals to any and every argument put forward.

Your fifth point really points the reason why we elves need and deserve a third faction .

They would be nice to have, but Paladins just aren’t a cornerstone or even relevant to any Alliance High Elven Culture out there.

i can see lor’themar viewing sylvannas’ behavior like an arthas flash back. they’ve witnessed her, more than once, kill and/or raise other horde (might be some blood elves in that number and this is what lor’themar had to say about that when she suggested it the first time back during siege of ogrimmar —

Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: I can raise your dead, Regent Lord. Your rangers can fight again.
.
Lor’themar Theron says: Sylvanas! You will leave our corpses alone or I will deal with you here and now.

And since she has technically kept her word (i know this surprises me to no end) about not raising the Blood Elves as her new Dark Rangers and the fact the entirety of Silvermoon still holds her name in high praise due to her valiant defence of there homeland when Arthas invaded that they aren’t in a huge need to dispose of her yet.

The Blood Elf Heritage questline states this.

weird. howd she manage to kill all those horde and not kill any belf

Blood Elves are generally better suited as Mages and Backline Bodyguards as seen the only elves in Lordearon seemed to be Dark Rangers + Sylvanas and Lor’themar i didn’t really see many Blood Elves if at all on both factions tbh.

now see if i could convince blizz to make this 3rd elf faction, but have it optional, there would be identical elves in the third faction and the alliance and horde. how would people ever be able to differentiate them :sunglasses:

I’m fanatical about helves. Only allied race I really wanna play

me too. in the meantime,

i’m blue

Yo listen up here’s a story
About a little gal that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything she sees
Is just blue like her inside and outside
Blue her house with a blue little window
And a blue corvette
And everything is blue for her and herself
And everybody around
'Cause she ain’t got nobody to listen to

I’m blue da ba dee da ba die…

From what i’ve read Blizzard made them as close to High Elves as possible with their story, minus the void part. They don’t even like the horde and want to get silvermoon back from the horde even though it won’t happen, So I would not say it failed completely, and i’m pretty sure Blizzard knows that. They are the most played AR out of the original 4

You already know what their answer will be, blizz replied twice already with the same answer so I am curious why this discussion is still ongoing
