I very well can say population is irrelevant. Why? Because:
Population IS irrelevant.
There were maybe 12(?) Void Elves from the accident that Alleria saved them from. If a “crack squad” is enough to be an allied race, you cannot use population numbers as an excuse why Alliance High Elves can’t be playable.
If you want a legit argument against playable Alliance High Elves the only one that exists (in my opinion), is the visual “blurring of the faction lines”. Which is why there have been efforts and suggestions for High Elves to look different from Blood Elves.
It is a legitimate thing to consider, you’re right, one that I’ve discussed in some thread. Maybe this one, maybe another, I’m not sure.
That being said, if your stance is “Blizzard tells me that population is a concern, but I’m going to dismiss it because it’s old and they’ve changed old things before” then fair enough, I agree to disagree.
Except we are not asking for a change. Blizzard changed it already by repeatedly and increasingly using high elves over the years. Blizzard also showed that population size is not a reason to forbid a playable race.
When Blizzard released Void Elves, they basically invalidated population as a barrier to something becoming an allied race. You can blame Blizzard for that.
I ride a different train of thought, one that allows written lore to supersede anything presented in-game in a “tangible” format. Anduin Wrynn looked 10 years old before he hit a growth spurt one Tuesday morning and turned into a glorious 16 year old. I don’t take that literally because Blizzard told me (or perhaps expects me) to believe that didn’t happen.
Blizzard told me High Elves are rare, and just because they’re powerful creatures who do exist in the realm of Azeroth and thusly show up in our story, I don’t assume they exist in a great number. Because Blizzard told me they don’t.
Muir, Drede, Vex, Nico it’s been real. Keep fighting the good fight. I hope we all get to play some sick High Elves with the option of sick blue tattoos some day.
Disglain - Good luck being a Nightborne. We’re pretty.
Time to study some pathology and not wonder why I posted on some forums with everybody being super negative instead of working out for the last hour. Gonna go lift.
My subscription is up in a few hours and my will to play is just absolutely dead so… I won’t be renewing. That said, I’m sure I’ll renew it at some point. I’ll keep the good fight up at that point.
Until then, I’m going to keep an eye on Hytale. Looks like a really fun game by developers who themselves are gamers, who have been working on their game for three years, and are intent on releasing it when it’s ready. It looks like Minecraft, but it’s got a lot of RPG elements in it.
I can’t even begin to compute how pathetic it is that there’s a nominal, coordinated segment among the Pro Helf community, or at the least, a group with Pro Helf sympathy, that is actively, immediately, and repeatedly abusing the flagging system to lock down my Why High Elves Don’t Work Thread.
My thoughts and apologies go out to the moderation team who keep opening it, and my scorn and pity for those who clearly can’t handle opposing opinions.
You are bad apples in danger of ruining the Pro Helf bunch.
For all we know it’s a coordinated segment of people who are sick of seeing more than one topic for High Elves. Or just trolls in general. I can see why you’d imagine it’s from a pro High Elf group, I’d think the same if it were this thread being flagged to closed (which happened once).
Personally I hope whoever is doing it gets banned. Not just from the forums. Get their Blizzard account band. It’s pure nonsense that it’s been going on for so long.
I’m pretty sure that this is a bug/glitch in the forums. I’ve not exploited bugs/glitches before, and I don’t intend to start now. Not bashing on you for continuing to post or anything despite it, to each their own.
I agree that half elves hold the most potential to make the High Elf idea more unique and to help revamp the idea while remaining true to their Alliance theme/role.
My guess its more of a “setup oversight” on the part of those who handle forum maintenance. It could be a bug, but as I said my money is on something being overlooked during setup.
