The times they are a changin...regarding Duel Tournaments for cash prizes in WoW

“it wouldn’t have been possible under Blizzard’s ToS during LK”

Was done anyways. Vanguard was the middleman between us in arena junkies and Blizzard to hear us out on PvP issues. So he helped bridge the gap.

“I’m not even on the beta nor am I a streamer - just a fan of the game who has seen the money creep affect WoW in very detrimental ways…”

Same. Not a streamer and didn’t get into the beta. Other games have had community driven and this has been around for years and in this game. Has not really caused an issue. Just lifted the sub numbers from pvp side.

“do you not find it ironic that private servers strictly prohibit this kind of activity whereas Blizzard has jumped the shark?”

Private servers for the LONGEST have been on thin water with a blizzard. Blizzard didn’t want them making money off private servers since they don’t get the sub money or any of it. On public client, they get the sub count and it’s a win/win.

I find it hilarious that private servers prohibited it but acted in their own best interests to line their own pockets with with embezzling or selling gear for “donation”.

It’s a really odd stance to take when Private Servers are just as guilty of profiting off Blizzard IP.

oh i know - but you can’t help but appreciate the irony of it - considering that they are adhering to the original ToS that Blizzard had for the game

This is a complete mischaracterization of the ToS.

What you do in your own guilds or groups is your business. In-game casino? Go for it, you just are not allowed to advertise. In the case of a tournament, in order to be able to advertise, you have to say that it’s just a cash prize and that you don’t buy-in.

Gold for real world currency, also a no-no. It’s either one or the other.

But if you want to get together and gamble, in a guild or group, that’s your business. You just aren’t allowed to advertise it as such.

That tournament pulled in over 150k viewers. More than blizzards boring hosted tournament events. This was such a win for Classic, Blizzard and PvP community. Glad it happened.

Good luck shutting down all those Streamers who did this. Blizzard would just be muting their hype train for classic. Times have changed.

Also considering it was a tournament where no one gained anything. Cash for carries in wow are banned, but this is a pvp tourny, and just duels, no one in game gained anything, they didnt get better gear they didnt get gold out of thin air. Somehow I dont think ToS can do Jack F All.

Yeah OP was just super jealous is all I can gather. He never directly answered why it mattered. It wouldn’t have hurt wow. It’s been around since LK. He was just upset he is a 1550 hero who probably has no way to enter and compete. There I said it.

once again for clarity…

I AM TALKING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL WOW TOS FROM VANILLA - NOT THE CURRENT TOS ON RETAIL…

Such a situation would be considered the exchange of in-game services for out of game currency or goods, Averybighug. That would fall under a policy we have a pretty clear “no” on.

and LFD/LFR, gear score, game tokens among countless others “changes” to WoW contributed to retail WoW maintaining a healthy 12mllion plus subs today as they did during LK?

and yes, I literally did say why it mattered in the initial post for the thread…

Given the fact that Classic is specifically being developed around the spirit of #NoChanges + #WartsAndAll should it also be the same with the ToS as it was during Vanilla WoW as well along with activities such as this being strictly verbotten?

Not that I’m a fan of Alex by any stretch of the imagination, but does he have a point?

PS How could I even “enter and compete” if I didn’t have a beta invite lol

Your argument regarding nochanges is a poor one, since you refuse to use Facebook, even though it exists. Well retail exists, and retail is not classic. Classic is about to exist and can be whatever Blizzard agrees it should be. This doesnt mean we shouldnt try to influence their decisions for the better.

I accidentally deleted last post. Copy and paste again.

Imagine citing a post from 2010.

You know how the world changes? Know how ISP providers have had to alter and change their TOS more and more as time has gone by to add more language or alter when laws come out?

Do you think because they bring back vanilla wow that they need to bring back vanilla TOS?

please answer that  Go ahead

" PS How could I even “enter and compete” if I didn’t have a beta invite lol"

You had no chance but moving on.

Blizzard changed their TOS waaay before this release of classic. Tournaments for cash has been going on for waaay longer than this. They aren’t going against TOS now or for a while. Just take the L and leave.

dude, they’re bringing back Vanilla/Classic because they FINALLY realize that they jumped the shark with retail WoW

the original developers knew that adding a RL cash component/transaction into the game would be bad bad bad juju in the long run

i mean you can insult me all you like - but you don’t have to take my word for it - merely listen to the original devs like Kevin Jordan

Did you possibly misunderstand my post?

“RL cash component/transaction into the game would be bad bad bad juju in the long run”

Yes…it would. Such as wow tokens. That would be stupid. You do know other stuff like wow boosting was and still is against TOS right? You are complaining about the tournament. That does NOT hurt wow’s economy ONE BIT. It’s cash. Not gold. CASH. IF said person uses that cash to buy gold then they go against TOS.

yes, and it was against the original ToS for a very good reason - Blizzard embracing eSports is part of the reason why retail WoW is lulz as a franchise…

adding a cash reward component to the game was dumb dumb dumb

WoW ain’t Starcraft…

So you wouldn’t play classic beta if invited?

I never understand this logic. Its a game, you can still have fun playing regardless of server.

Of course I would play the beta if invited. I played the last two stress tests knowing those characters were going to be wiped.

Going into a beta I understand it’s for testing purposes and the characters will be wiped in the end. I have been in many betas in many different games over the years.

I just personally don’t feel right playing on private servers. It just feels wrong to me personally. I know many people do, and that’s fine. To each their own. As far as the getting wiped thing on private severs, a person could invest months or years into characters for them to suddenly be gone. But the main reason I don’t play them is because it feels wrong to me to do that.

Bring in the beta of a game isn’t the same circumstance.

Here is an archive of the page that the CM linked in that post. Specifically, it does not mention tournaments and hosting them, but is interpreted as a real money exchange for in-game services by this CM.

I don’t know what goods or in-game services was being referred to in that original thread.

That’s part 2…where is part 1 ?

It is not on Wayback machine, it appears to have fallen off the internet.
