The TBC Classic Community wants Dual Spec

Class trainers still have a purpose with Dual Spec. You learn abilities at the class trainer; you’d switch talents at the class trainer. Just because you have Dual Spec, it doesn’t mean you never change talents again.

No we don’t want it. If you want dual spec then play retail. Stop ruining classic.

Dual spec would be an amazing addition to the TBC client.

why would it be ruined?

No thanks, your poll means nothing to me. Play retail if you want to change specs on a whim.

We can change spec on a whim now.

I see everyone always saying “It will ruin classic” and then not actually say why.

Lemme cover some common reasons I found here and there:

1. If everyone has dual spec, it will be “required” in order to participate in raids
No on this. Simple facts will be players who are capable of playing multiple specs are already doing so and pay the 50g each time. Anyone “expecting” players to fall in line will end up just not having a players to raid with. This was the case in wrath.

2. Spec swapping should be a gold sink
You should be able to play the class to it’s fullest. The only reason you pay now is because it’s an arguably old system that was dated even when it was current

3. Players who only have one spec have no benefit to it, making multispec classes look better.
This one is just silly, but people somehow think a Warlock who can run one spec all expansion will lose value vs a Druid who has freedom to change around. Anyone who thinks that makes a difference probably doesn’t actually play the game.

Do we want it? Do we hate it? Stay tuned!

This has never happened to me. I’ll either have a heal spec just because I want to, or someone will ask me to heal and I’ll tell them I don’t have heal gear. It has never resulted in me being removed from raid. This idea that a raid leader will kick you from raid for not having two specs is just a lie.

Again, why? to combat gold inflation? inflation doesn’t mean anything unless it is relative to another currency. If you have cloth at a certain price that means you can also sell cloth at a certain price making just as much money since there is a single currency.

Players are worried about things that are non-issues.

No. Game inconveniences are easily as important as any other game feature. Obstacles to progress and petty aggravations make the game world come alive.

We agree lol

I don’t think anyone has a legit reason to not have dual spec in.

Just lame examples that don’t hold up to scrutiny.

This is just false.

The original concept was to make new players understand their choices make a difference. Let’s not pretend anyone playing classic isn’t an old player, or at least someone who has played WoW/knows someone who does.

No one is making choices randomly. They follow guides, listen to other players, or already know the answer.

The system is dated.

Being realistic, if they made it so you buy the dual spec for 1000 gold at 60, that alone puts new players in a position to think about their talents until they can earn enough money and hit max. That’s plenty of time to have someone learn how the game works.

Facts are simple, there is literally no reason to not have dual spec

You could take a poll right now if these players wanted to add an abram tank as a mount that could attack and one shot anything and it would have overwhelming support to add it into the game.

Players are dumb and don’t realize what they ask for is not only dumb, but harmful to the game.

They have literally said in their development journals that players will make the game unfun for themselves. Look at the world buff meta in classic. One of the first things many of my guild mates said is “I am never getting another world buff ever” They all hated it, but they still did it because they knew someone else was getting it, and they didnt like feeling like they were bad at their class. The only thing that would have stopped them getting world buffs was them being removed.

Wrong.

Here’s a sample question from the “Ultimate WoW Classic Design Survey” that was linked across the community when Classic was announced:

What part of being able to dual spec makes the game unfun.

Like does ANYONE actually have a reason as to why this is a bad idea.

People don’t have to struggle to get the most of something. It is totally fine for everyone to have an easier time to get engaged in the actually challenging portions of the game.

No one says their drive to work is the most engaging experience of the day, so why should this be any different

Should have a cooldown of at least 1 hour, should be done at trainer at major city.

Switching specs on the fly at any place in the world removes player agency.

Further more 1k gold cost is super cheap should either increase or just have the costs of the regular trainer respec. At max cost (50g) that is a 100g per 1 full respec cycle. so 1k gold is actually 10 switches which is really really cheap (not good).

TLDR: 1 hour cooldown, require city trainer, make higher cost or just go with regular respec cost rules ( i prefer it remain with regular respec cost rules for a gold sink in game)

also for the thread polls. Just because a lot of poeple want it doesnt mean its good for the game. I believe I voted yes on those polls but my yes is for a restricted Dual spec that is more inline with what the original developers wanted, specs to be meaningful and if you did change you would pay a good amount of gold for it.

Again. Why does it need a cooldown…

Why does everyone think it should be complicated.

What is the big deal of being able to change from fight to fight?

Why does anyone think this is a problem!

Retail doesn’t need dual spec. You can switch to any spec in a rested area and change talents as well at no cost and the talents are saved separately per spec. IE: on retail Druids have quad-spec.

Most gear also has all main stats and they automatically change when you change spec, so playing multiple roles is a lot easier even than when we had dual spec since you needed a lot more gear to play multiple roles when dual spec was first added.

Dual spec in TBC would be about being able to play PvP and PvE without having to spend 50 gold every time you want to go do a dungeon or run a BG/arena.
