When DPS pulls a bunch of stuff I wasn’t planning on pulling yet I will stand there and watch them get destroyed, let them get mad, and ask if they learned anything.
Not always true, they don’t know what you can and can’t handle if you want someone you know can and will tank a life and we’ll then find a friend otherwise stop forcing people you don’t know to play the way you want it’s ignorant
I could queue for M+. M+ and heroic raids are the only upgrade paths for me.
I would rather gouge out my own eyes than pug M+. I did it in s2-s4 of DF, and it was the most toxic environment I’ve experienced in the game. Pull too much, toxic, pull too little, toxic. Week one of the season and don’t know a mechanic because it doesn’t exist on heroic. Toxic. Glad I skipped this season, I heard tanks are getting wrecked in there, I can only imagine the vitriol getting tossed at tanks in there for allowing themselves to die after we got massively nerfed.
I had considered just quitting the game entirely until Delves came about. Gear isn’t as good as M+, but I don’t have to deal with “much parse” in a +3.
Wondering where your tanks are, look in the mirror.
one of the biggest issues with Mythic + is the reliance on group finder, most healers and tanks have guilds and friends so they have no need to pug and lets be honest pugging Mythic + sucks in general.
DPS players are awful to tanks and especially healers.
Rather have less tanks than clueless ones.
So stop using it. Problem solved.
The mechanics are there. Not saying it would be simple though. In fact, I am sure there would be plenty of people that would love the complexity that would come with playing a commander type of a class.
The extreme basic version of it, but you’re talking about upgrading it to a level that blizz has never been close to hitting in 20 years, then expecting enough people to be interested in a harder version of a role that already very few people will play.
It’s not impossible, but it’s probably as likely as me going from playing ball Saturday mornings with my buddies to playing in the NBA.
I honestly have never understood everyone complaining about the one role dying causing a wipe being too “tanky”.
You left out “new content drops today…everyone not a tank WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON"T KNOW THE BEST ROUTE AND ALL THE MECHS!!!” Heaven forbid we want to figure out the instances like everyone else.
You know why that is right? IMO it is because there is a timer in 1 type of dungeon, so people use the other dungeons are practice for that one type of content.
As a Main Tank that plays pugs 90% of the time id like to chime in
For the most part the groups i join are quite decent people. There are a few outliers that will berate you for one mistake, but the option to leave the group and report people is available of it gets bad enough.
Some tips I can give aspiring tanks:
- Learn the Routes
- learn the Mechanics
- follow the route you like to take
- if someone offers advice such as "if you pull THIS pack with THAT pack, think about it. It may work better
- leave abusive groups
- get comfortable with personal survivability to help your healers out.
Dps is awful to tanks
Tanks are awful to healers
healers are awful to dps
dps is awful to healers,
healers are awful to tanks,
tanks are awful to dps…
That’s what I have read in this thread, no one wants to fix themselves though.
i mainly tank, and i like tanking dungeons and raids, but i wont touch M+ with a 10 foot pole. the culture around it has just gotten (or maybe always been) nasty. i dont know if that comes from just a general trend in community manners, lack of poor social moderation, or the fact that inefficient play or progging/learning the content can lead to directly wasting another players limited resources, but its created an atmosphere every bit as hostile as something like league of legends, and i just avoid it these days.
if its with guild friends or people i know, maybe, but with randoms? absolutely not.
the tank changes themselves dont bother me at all. i’ll play a tank if they’re good, bad, iron walls or squishy active mit reliant rubber bands, high self sustain or healer dependent, high damage, low damage. doesnt matter. i enjoy the role and the specs
i tanked about 20 keys last week, i got banned today for idk i guess thats 20 less dungeons this week for lfg
ooh let’s play virtual wow
- ranged tank shoots an taunt totem in range of monster
- monster runs over to taunt totem
- ranged tank is still ranged, does range things
- healers heal tank but the healing is auto transferred to taunt totem
- ready to move to new pack, tank repositions taunt totem at the new pack
- still at range, still mitigating via the statue, heals still healing tank
- dps doesn’t interrupt x3, statue dies because healer has to spam heal AE effects on DPS
- dps alt tabs to complain about range tank on forums, damage drops to 0
- range tank leans 15 degrees closer to gaming monitor in gaming chair
- range tank presses “resummon totem”
- range tank uses all cooldowns, solos content
- range tank stops queueing for m+ outside of select few people / starting their own group using vastly overgeared dps
- dps complains on forums about “tank shortage”
- dps insist on forums range tanks are bad even though they’ve already existed in the game
- dps watches their favorite streamer clear all content with 2x range tanks
- dps go to forums to complain that range tanks are OP and should be nerfed
I’ve a better idea: remove all tanks.
No more tank shortage.
Mobs melee for 1 damage each.
If mere basic competency is enough for a tank to survive, let’s remove that aspect entirely.
Oh and unless you played with Vesper Totem in Shadowlands, you’ll realize how annoying the actual gameplay will be.
vesper totem isn’t even relevant as that’s for healing/dps.
summon black ox statue is literally the in the game right now and works this way, via pulsing AE and requiring a direct taunt to ae taunt. it’s also not built to sustain entire fights which is a trivial switch.
I find it more annoying to use this and then melee around it, but dropping earthquakes and other AE on top of it from range would be no different than playing a shaman now, except the totem can sustain tanking.
But hey at least the thread went from “impossible” to “i wouldn’t like it.” Derp
I’d love to play a shaman tank, and you could easily modify existing shaman abilities slightly to make it doable.
Ill tank your key…but if you suck, dont interrupt, dont know how to DPS your rotation so your #s are appeopriate for your gear…im leaving.
