i want you to go to winterspring and run around the zone, and then do the same in epl, wpl, felwood, the blasted lands, the burning steepes, and un’goro crater, preferably on a saturday between the hours of 5:00 P.M. server time and 10:00 P.M. server time, during which time it should be about prime time for both factions
and then tell us roughly how many allies you saw outside of alliance settlements and how many hordes you saw outside of horde settlements in each zone
of course, that’d only tell you of the high-level parts of the faction balance, but that matters too
especially since you’re 60
No doubt having accurate population number allowed people to make informed decisions about whether they wanted to realm change.
Blizzard does not want players to have the information they need to make informed decisions on any number of game issues they may encounter.
They also do not want people to have information that could lead to accurate population estimates in general, which would to some extent answer the question “how is the game doing?”
Why would they introduce a new mechanic that they have not before to reduce server populations, if that is their goal? In what way will that help with their efforts?
EDIT:
Oh, and to address this. I was saying, “Hmm… Blizzard, huh?” to your claim that they were making an issue, which I do not believe is the case at all.
We seem to have similar perspectives towards each other’s current standpoint, so there’s considerable distance to cross if we would ever care to see eye to eye.
I can’t imagine players choosing to move or roll onto an imbalanced realm. Most folk interested in PvP want as close to 50/50 as possible.
I jumped off a high queue Incendius ages ago without knowing of the Stalagg exodus or ratios posted of any kind. Blizz making that info public would indeed allow players to make these choices, but atm it’s just old census data and anecdotes.
Which I have plenty of seeing what 20/80 feels like. It’s not pvp anymore here, it’s just punching bags and bored boxers.
Stalagg player here. I am very torn. I agree that transferring is probably not the answer for the server, and for my personal enjoyment.
Unfortunately this free realm transfer has many mixed opinions among my peers. Puts me in a very awkward spot. In fact I hate it. I can possibly end up leaving a realm with it’s issues to a realm that has it’s issues as well.
I was curious how low pop the Horde was and made a level 1 toon on Heartseeker. On a Saturday night at prime, I was able to count how many players were standing between the AH and mailbox/bank on both my hands. World chat very inactive, and Trade about the same.
I began asking questions over world chat, I was met with what felt like stranded players looking to be rescued. The ones over world chat seemed pretty unhappy, however I got whispers telling me otherwise. I dunno what to think.
I love PvP, and WPvP will be very scarce on Heartseeker unless a solid 15 Horde guilds or so transfer there.
Anyway, this feels a little ranty, not sure where I’m going with my post, but this is what I experienced so far. I feel really bad for the Horde on Heartseeker. They want fair competition, and to be able to find Dungeon groups more often.
I’m curious; were any Horde guilds planning to transfer to Heartseeker?
Please take it as a grain of salt. I didn’t stick around for a long period of time. I did do a /who and there were 50 people (max you can see) doing MC. Maybe they were actually doing things rather than just AFK’ing in city.
Anyone know how Incendius balance is? If they ever open up paid transfers I was thinking about going there. It sucks because Stalagg looked like it was going to be a well balanced high pop server and now both Stalagg and Heartseeker look terrible. Also curious about Earthfury as that is one we should be able to transfer to.
I desperately hope so, being in the ~20% which may shrink tomorrow, but it’s hard to advocate for when the only ingame incentive to being a minority faction (battleground queue times) has been removed with XRBGs.
I have a feeling this was exactly the reason the cencus add-on was broken, and rightly so.
Players will generally seek out a server that has an advantage to them, in the case of PvP that means picking a server with a factional bias towards your own choice.
Everyone talks tough and says they want fair competition, some even go so far as to boast about thier desire to take on less than favourable odds.
The truth of it is, most players will go for the easiest route, the evidence is there with various servers tilting horribly when transfers open up. Every other post on the forums is about the percieved imbalance which is only getting worse all the time.
If players just picked a server and played the game it would be fine, instead we have everyone chasing population figures, streamer locations, factional bias, etc etc etc because they are seeking favourable conditions.
Blizzard will never release population figures, let alone faction bias because of what players do with that information that then has a snowball effect, compounding the issues. Its a great example of how a little bit of information can be very damaging, more so than having no information.
TL;DR - player caused issue, players are going to have to fix it, and giving infomation on factional bias only makes the players missuse that info more.
