~ The Solo Player ~ dying out in SL

But why is it a problem?

EQ leveling wasn’t engaging. I fell asleep more than once in a grind group.

I thought it was. I made most of my friends that way.

I hate this active play. Different strokes.

I play with a guild, get aotc and keystone master and I think gear disparity in random bgs is stupid.

The play itself wasn’t engaging. Because the combat was slow, and you didn’t have to pay much attention to what you were doing, it allowed for more text chatting.

Puller grabs a mob. May or may not feign death. Tank grabs mob. Chanter CC’s anything extra.

Everyone else single targets mobs down one at a time.

Healer hits 1 heal button over and over.

Rinse and repeat. Most people not having to move their character for hours.

I mean again I liked that. I liked having more text chatting and BSing with people as you played. It kind of reminded me of group fishing.

Then I get over to WoW and I’m like ya…nope. Too much stuff going on. I just prefer games that are slower with less going on not a major fan of anything that’s twitchy or super fast.

I 100% get you like that, and thats great.

EverQuest is still active btw, so if thats a gameplay variant you really love its still there. I popped back in for an expansion a few years ago.

I haven’t gone back in a while. I did P99 for a bit but that was a while ago and I kinda feel like setting it up with the CD emulators is a pain.

Eventually I’ll make my way over to Pantheon if it ever comes out because I think they were kinda going in the direction I want to see. It may not be as slow as EQ was/is but from the UI it looks like they simplified the amount of buttons you have to press and kinda moved away from AOE all the things and have a dedicated CC class in the group.

I think this is why I like the forums over the game because just talking with people in chat is more engaging to me.

Why do you feel the need to compete against such players when you’re a solo player?

Been watching it forever. I will 100% be checking it out. I am sure it will be done by 2032. (joke :P)

I tend to run more with guildies than pugs, which allows me an easier time to chat with others will playing.

Well said. I feel the same sort of cultural alienation. Its time to go.

Thanks for explaining for me, but Akston knows the deal. We have had this argument for several expansions now. Yeah he’s a former EQ player but you can tell where he stands.

For the last 3 expansions he has espoused the concept of:
Legion is the best expansion ever
BFA is the best expansion ever
SL is the best expansion ever
Raiding is the game and leveling needs to die

He may have come from EQ but it’s obvious he only cares for the latest and greatest. If WoW turned fully into a console game that only used controllers I am sure he would be fine as sure as he can raid… Which BTW is a valid game style, but it’s not an MMORPG

You are taking solo out of context, I am a solo player in respect I don’t really raid, play with a guild, or do rated, mythic content.

I don’t want to compete with them! I want to be competitive in Random BGs where my gear i earned in that content is capped. There gear should be capped in that content so I can be competitive, last night fighting Sargeras premade the entire 5 man team was 40k!

I’m 45 and I find farts funny. Always will. The rest I agree.

Why is every post by you, a bashfest on someone or an elude for them to quit? You are not helpful to the discussion in any capacity!

I just wanted to chime in and say I’m an older player and I feel the same. I dont want the best gear. I know I wont get the super duper awesome mount from some raid tier. Etc. I just want to have some things to progress my character and I want to have the ability to bounce into a few PvP matches a night and have some fun.

They had the right formula they could have tweaked in Legion. Instead, they went the route of making it even more of an elitist game then its ever been.

It makes business sense though. WoW has been bleeding subs for years and not really onboarding new players. The players that started wow in their teens and 20s are now adults with responsibility. They mostly have more money then time. The amount of people willing or able to pump 50 plus hours a week into an MMO now is limited. So how do you gain the most profit in that scenario? Move the game to a model where all the rewards and focus is on the top of the top. The tier or two below that will do anything to get to the elite status. Those with more money then time who still want to play WoW will buy tokens to keep up and buy carries. So you lose 10 people like me and you make it up with one person buying a full raid carry for gear.

Fortunately, there are more games out there that are of a high quality then there ever has been in the past. I’ll miss the gameplay and world of WoW. But it’s not a game built with a place for me anymore. Well, not unless I decide to start buying 10 plus tokens a week to just get to the point I can come home after a hard day of work, log into a few random BGs and be geared enough to have a fun and not be frustrated and feel like fodder to make the top geared people feel good about themselves…

solo in an MMO?

sounds kinda weird tbh.

you dont see skyrim players whine about the lack of multiplayer content.

if you want to solo there are solo games out there, is what i mean.

Introduce official raid/dungeon bots for the solo player. You can solo queue for mythic+ dungeons as well as raids with bots. Maybe a wow plus subscription can give you access to this content. Imagine playing WoW any time you want, instead of having to worry about when other players are on or relying on them. Never for PVP content, just PVE.

Most people are not after hard core gear just a honest way to get pass the wall the company now throws up every time and it’s really sad. The fact people are on here are arguing about other people play style is a joke.

Is that casual player affecting your precious Mythics?
Is that casual player affecting your precious Raid?
Is that casual player affecting your precious Rated BG?

No but for those casuals to do the above they need the gear and to get pass some wall the players who do the above have inflated beyond reasons.

I think solo player can quickly get to max covenant gear and max one-item legendary. Then it is true they cannot continue much further without grouping, entering PvP, M+ or raiding.

As a person who enjoys consistency, one thing that’s pretty well known that products that never change die. Change is inevitable.
