The scarlets have never been anything but an ultra evil cartoon villain faction of genocidal racists and that’s been very very clear ever since vanilla
If you find that romantic I’m not sure what to tell you
In the end they’re mostly just silly and exist to be killed
And they can become so much more.
If you want to be a good guy crusader the argents are right there
Theyre too busy ignoring Lordaeron
Edit: They’re also a bit too warm and gentle.
Humanity needs fire and zeal for the void.
I want to be a grey or evil crusader that kills all forms of undead and retakes Lordaeron from these monsters.
Same, but an actual Inquisition/Witch Hunter faction of humanity brought a bit closer to the forefront of the conflict (Order of Embers helping somehow) Is something I have been desperately wanting for years? And i’m not saying that because I have a three thousand point Inquisition army
Yeah but the game isn’t going to let you be evil, we kill the evil guys instead. That’s just kinda how it works. Also the forsaken are the rightful owners anyway.
That’s what I’d call “Horde bias”. Notice how anyone on the Alliance who makes any slight movement against the Horde gets immediatelly painted as racist or something.
For the sake of the Forsaken, the Scarlet Crusade had to be portrayed as evil. It’s fine they are seen as such, as it defines how those who were turned see the living and all, but it doesn’t justify hitting any human with the villain bat.
I completely forgot about them. It’s like outside of Drustvar they don’t even exist. Would be nice to see what they’d think of the Forsaken and the SC.
I can see why the scarlet crusade would use jt as a temporary home.
It’s a human area no one touched.
It’s defensible, it’s got plenty of land and so on.
Shame they didn’t fix the hole in the wall, and they’d have there own little city.
This is just actually wrong. I haven’t played the Forsaken and Horde quests concerning Scarlets in Vanilla for quite some time now so forgive me there, (I imagine they concern the Forsaken primarily who most Scarlets see as just being Scourge) but I want to say the only anti non-human sentiment expressed by any Scarlet in Vanilla is Marjhan in LHC referring to Tauren as “bull-men” and the Horde collectively as “savages” which honestly, especially at this point, probably isn’t an unpopular view of the Horde among the overall Alliance.
Pretty much all of the sentiments expressed by Scarlets is how the player character is “tainted” by the Plague and must be “cleansed” for their own sake. Their main gripe is with the Scourge and Forsaken and taking back Lordaeron which is also their home, too.
There really isn’t a racial aspect to their hostility. Hell, there’s even Scarlet members who aren’t aware of the overall Dreadlord corruption looking to the Alliance for assistance such as Brother Crowley in the SW Cathedral basement who then leads you to Brother Anton in Desolace, in a Night Elven camp. Then there’s the previously mentioned LHC meeting where non-sanctioned Scarlets are willing to overlook their pride and biases and come together with the Argents to defeat the Scourge.
The racism wasn’t really a thing until the Ashbringer comic came out during Wrath I think, and it really hamfisted them being bigoted racists as well as just retconning their origins.
Previously the Scarlet Crusade was founded by the very much living Saidan Dathrohan and while the Crusade was likely always a bit more extreme in their actions, they were largely considered to be noble (Raleigh the Devout in Southshore) and even had High Elven and Dwarven members, such as seen in the form of memorials in SM Armory, further disproving the whole “always racist” thing. It basically wasn’t until after Saidan was killed and had his corpse possessed that the Crusade went into a paranoid, fanatic downward spiral and the Argents formed from a splinter group who didn’t like the direction the Crusade was taking. Originally, many of the Argents were former Scarlets themselves.
Then the Ashbringer comic came out and was basically like, no, the Crusade wasn’t formed until after Dathrohan was already killed and possessed, making it corrupt from the get-go and no, the members are immediately racist and xenophobic calling the dwarves and elves “lesser races” which calls the canonity of the Scarlet Hero’s in SM into question and no the Argents didn’t form as a splinter group from the Scarlets but instead formed alongside the Scarlets because they were already super enlightened and knew better. Juxtaposition and all that.
Seriously, there’s a page in the comic where Darion asks Renault why he judges the so-called “lesser races” and Renault replies in a rage something like, “it is our LIGHT GIVEN RIGHT to JUDGE THEM now BE SILENT” and it’s so forced and stupid.
I care a lot about this topic you can tell
We are all pretty passionate about it. I think you would enjoy it on moonguard, as there are plenty of scarlet role players who share your sympathy and mindsets.
We frequently have debates like this and the ash bringer comic is a massive point of contention with many of us flat out just refusing it at times.
Maldraxxus’ whole shtick is putting on rotting flesh cosplay so they can fight to the death without being turned into cheap quest reward currency. They actually invented undeath in the setting.
It still takes place in the afterlife. It is not a setting on Azeroth.
That one guy in the Library: “Noh vun expectz ze Scarlet Inquzition!”
Second fave faction in WoW. Hope they’re joinable some day.
I have to wonder what these Arathi humans are gonna do after we deal with their underground nonsense.
They got crusader vibes. I wonder if they’ll end up repopulating The Scarlet Crusade.
Well, Calia Menethils daughter is still alive…
…The Scarlet Crusade is based off of the first Arathor teachings…
