The Sacred Flame: The greatest curve ball that blizzard can do

Still a compromise.

A great and terrible presence filled the hall. Turalyon felt holy wrath coalescing around Alleria. He stepped next to her. “Xe’ra, please, show mercy,” he said.
I warned her what would happen if she tolerated the Shadow. And now she would defile this place.
Lothraxion knelt before the whirling power of the Mother of Light. “Hear my words. Lady Alleria Windrunner came back to save us, knowing that she would not be accepted here. Courage, honor, selflessness… these virtues still reside in her heart.”
Virtues count for nothing if you stray from the path the Light has chosen for you.
And yet, despite her anger, Xe’ra hesitated.
Turalyon opened his mind to her, letting her see his doubts, anguish, and resolve. “I beg you, Xe’ra, do not harm her.”

But not in a way that shows lack of zealotry, which was the point. Internal imprisonment until someone repents isn’t lacking zealotry.

That doesn’t invalidate my original point, especially since there was still a compromise on the cause zealotry’s being attributed to. And if we assume zealotry and compare that to zealots from other groups (ie, how the Burning Legion, Azshara and the Jailer treat dissent), this is a tame example.

But how dare Xe’ra checks notes make and enforce rules on what is or isn’t allowed on her own ship/home when someone broke said rule after being warned not to, eh?

I mean, there’s a difference between enforcing the rules and going Whelp, she broke the rules. Time to either die or suffer eternal imprisonment until they repent and follow my religion

Alleria was warned beforehand, and considering her inner Void struggles now… There’s also a difference between death and imprisonment.

True. But Alleria has yet to loose control of her abilities. Worse we’ve seen from Legion onward is that she’s prone to going it alone and making rash decisions.

Which almost every major good guy NPC has done at one time or another.

But it does. Your original point was her compromise shows lack of zealotry. This compromise doesn’t show that.

Yeah, it was pretty dumb of Xe’ra to enforce that rule there.

There’s also how Xal’atath is able to stun Alleria with a flick of Void energy, something we never see her do to others. I wonder why Xal’atath didn’t do it in the confrontation when Alleria broke the Dark Heart,.

Also, I stand by OP’s original point. Methinks Blizzard have written themselves into a corner here.

No, because my point was that compromise is the number one thing zealots don’t do.

Yeah, it’s dumb to have the right to enforce rules in a place that you own, eh? Forget homeowner’s rights, amirite

Even than, those rights aren’t infallible. There are laws that can still get a homeowner in a boat load of trouble if broken.

True, but Xe’ra and the Xenedar is more like the captain of a military vessel in wartime. If you know anyone in the army, ask them how much right their CO has to punish lawbreaking soldiers under their command during wartime and if imprisonment is acceptable.

I’m saying that’s not true when the compromise is so small. Zealous absolutely make small compromises if they’re within the scope of their beliefs. Eternal imprisonment isn’t much of a compromise.

A dumb rule is dumb whether or not someone has the right to make it, yeah.
If someone made a rule people can only enter their house if people have gummy worms in their shoes, that’d be dumb.

At least you’re now admitting there was a compromise. Death to conditional imprisonment sounds like a big compromise to me.

And given how dangerous we know the Void to be, this isn’t a dumb rule, and especially not dumb just because you dislike the one who made the rule or the punishment for breaking it.

I’ve known a few military people. And even CO’s have rules and regulations they have to follow. Their power isn’t unlimited. They can get in trouble if the punishments are seen as excessive or even detrimental to getting things done.

Considering her subordinates Lothraxion and Turalyon were permitted to question and challenge her decision, neither is hers.

And given the proven dangers of the Void, I don’t think said punishment was detrimental to getting things done. And we need more grounds for excessive than “me no likey”.

I hope people remember that if the Arathi Empire “dares” to have rules and enforce them.

Rules are not necessarily just and should be broken

Depends on the rule in question. But yeah, not every law is just and people should question and or challenge them

I never denied it.

It isn’t if you believe in redemption.

It was dumb, we see the results, Alleria was fine.

But glad we’re past the irrelevant house rights stuff.

I don’t feel particularly strongly about her. I think the rule was dumb because the actual risk has been so underplayed at this point. Alleria overcomes it consistently just by will.

Thanks for clarifying that. Sounded like you were.

Wrong.

Alleria having to constantly fight voices in her head, randomly getting lost in visions like a bad drug trip and being stunned by Xal’atath with a flick of her wrist

You have a weird definition of “fine”.

Not irrelevant.

Your persistence in using Xe’ra’s treatment of Alleria as a strike against Xe’ra comes across as you actually DO feel particularly strong about her.

That’s not an argument, lol.

Basically none of that stuff actually impacts her though. And it sure isn’t relevant to fighting the Legion. Which was Xe’ra’s entire goal at the time and the period of imprisonment we’re talking about.

After the fact Alleria also lowered some void shields, got Anduin out of an illusion, and shattered the Dark Heart. So she’s not been a liability in that war either.

It isn’t relevant to whether or not the rules are dumb. Why would it be?

It only comes across that way to you because you’re biased about her.

The Kirin Tor (and Stormwind) banned necromancy, fel and shadow magic as well.

They don’t seem very zealous to me.

In real life, someone like her would be schizophrenic and likely in psychiatric treatment.
