The Sacred Flame: The greatest curve ball that blizzard can do

I just said that’s not what I’m asking for.

Then I have no idea what you are asking for.

I want to see it dialed up more than has happened.

Okay, that isn’t going to happen because the void elves got it under control.

Unless the writers reveal it actually isn’t under control. Whether they just thought it was or changing circumstances.

Meh, if they want to go lazy, sure.

Doing nothing with it seems equally lazy.

They didn’t do nothing with it, they did something with it. They showed the questline of the energies colliding. Then we got the story of the void elves controlling their powers so that doesn’t happen anymore. That was it, that was the story arch for it.

Retreading it feels lazy, like Slyvanas being Garrosh 2.0.

I mean nothing with it going forward. It is just as lazy to drop it because it requires no work.

I mean, the void and light fighting is still a thing. It just not going to happen with the void elves because they have no reason to get near the sunwell. Soo…why?

They might well have a reason given Midnight is set to involve Quel’thalas. A story which I believe they said will feature all the elven tribes.

And it’d be cool. The whole “yeah, we just overcame it” is very uncool compared to having it being a remaining chaffing point for longer.

I mean, the chaffing point is them still choosing the void over the sunwell. So there is that. Like, a family member saying “screw your religion I am choosing my own” type of thing.

But honestly, void elves do not need to go anywhere near the sunwell, the whole purpose of going void was to break free of it. I still want to see political head butting but them doing the whole “void elf touched a paladin and exploded” type of thing is boring to me.

But they aren’t, they’re stuck as Void Elves. They can’t go back. The void is part of them in a similar way fel is part of demon hunters of light for lightforged.

Exactly, they still choose, the new ones. The first ones were consumed but after that, you see blood elves in the rift trying to become void elves because they want to be free from the sunwell.

So there is literally zero reason to go near the sunwell. But the choosing of it and the fracturing of their people further should be a thing that should be expanded on.

I’m not talking about new ones, I’m taking about the group as a whole, they’re stuck. They cannot go back.

The reason is their whole thing is using the void for their people. If Midnight heavily features the Void, Quel’thalas, and all elves, it’d be silly if they just sit it out elsewhere. It’d be like no Death Knights in Shadowlands or no Demon Hunters in Legion.

I know, so there is no reason for the sunwell exploding near them.

For their people, mostly because they wanted to break free of their need for the sunwell. That was their main reason to study the void.

They can go to Quel’thalas then, they just don’t need to be near the sunwell. The tension should be with the fracturing more than just the sunwell thing.

would be cool if you are playing a void elf, the guards in Quel’thalas will make comments about you.

It’d be cool if there was. Because that’s a lot more interesting than just, “yeah, we just thought about it for a minute and it is fine.”

The main reason was for the defense of Silvermoon.

They’ve just neutered the Void so much with Void Elves that it should be more difficult than it is now to contain.

Each their own, I feel that would be boring story telling. I find political drama and tensions more fun than just energy sources colliding once again.

I want both.

While I stand that the cosmic forces of Arcane and Life (Death, but not undeath) are good, the Light is unique because it embodies the traits you mentioned and is one of the sources of creation.

  • “Light swelled across all existence in the form of a boundless prismatic sea. Great torrents of living energy flitted through its mirrored depths, their movements conjuring a symphony of joy and hope”- Chronicle Vol 1.

  • “The Naaru are benevolent creatures of living holy energy. They are perhaps the purest expression of the Light that exists in the Great Dark Beyond. The Naaru have vowed to bring peace and hope to all mortal civilizations and waylay the dark forces of the Void that seek to engulf creation”- Chronicle Vol 1.

  • “These traits must be tempered, with prayer and meditation. Only a calm mind will provide clear actions; only a peaceful heart may be truly infused with the Light”- Uther

  • Not to mention Chronicles described the Light as the exact opposite of the Void “a dark and vampiric force driven to devour all energy, to twist creation inward to feed upon itself”.

As for X’era and Yrel, I think anything from the End of Legion onward is where Blizzard went with the balance theme.

Case in point Chronicles also says this about the Titans

  • “They were benevolent by nature, creatures aligned with order and stability”

  • “They bound themselves to a code of temperance toward the civilizations they encountered, even those of the unruly elemental spirits”
