The real kicker is that our “Retail” finishing moves don’t do jack, hell even our combo builders dont do jack, even our auto attacks don’t do jack… Its our CD’s that are the real power, and what we do while our big CD is up is what differentiates us a little but in reality its just a big CD damage ability like gargoyle in Wrath for a DK doing stupid damage, or little bastard trees for druids, or put the name of some stupid DPS cooldown (here) Hell its the same for Paladin, Avenging Wrath added in TBC, but the whole class is “balanced” around that dumb mechanic making the paladin’s opportunity to be deadly tied down to that stupid ability… WORSE, the paladin also still has to balanced around bubble…
Like legit they have turned everything Melee into some kind of Ret/Rogue hybrid, and even the Ret and the Rogue are a meme of what they once were.
The only thing that’s KINDA sorta the same as it was is Warrior since it uses rage but even the warrior is just a meme of its former self,
What’s really sad is that Retail COULD be good, but its not because the class designers are not truly designers, they’re devs… Developers for the most part take the directions of the designers and communicate that with the engineers to get the product out the door. They test things, find design faults, reflect that back to the designers and engineers, but they’re neither Designer nor Engineers, and I suspect that Blizzard lacks both Designers and Engineers that are truly qualified to be such, and if they do have them I would be honestly surprised…
They actually fixed that too, but Rogue damage is still gated behind purple power or CD stacking (Deathmark and Exsang nerfed how many times in 10.0?), and all Rogue is left as-is with no comment. Oh? I’m being corrected. There was comment: “If Rogues are having fun no one else is, so Rogue can’t be fun.”
Edit: Current design can be summarized with the sentiment “Know your combos”, like it’s some hat tip to a skillcapped guide. Breaks my heart to see the launcher link directly to Wowhead, which has been reverse engineering game code for decades and is explicitly against the TOS. I guess it only matters if you’re not “in good” with the group…

But effectively the same, and frankly seems to be the common theme with players and player devs alike. This is why I don’t play the rogue class, it’s just not good / competitive without any kind of gimick play or very specific comp where you’re leveraging the real power of other superior classes.
As for Avenging Wrath (paladin) was talking generally about WoW over the years not just about present day retail where things do are ever changing, ever class has had moments of OP and down in the dumpster, and that part is more excusable than when they deliberately make a certain class un-enjoyable to play. (rogue) by design, because that’s what they have indeed done.
There is a solid reason for this, most of the dev’s are too prideful to admit they just hate being stunned, but yet its been perfectly fine for me to gib other players in a global on some classes yet they cry a river with 10 sec of stun lock? Why?
I was rage whispered on Friday for defending an AB node with Sap, Blind, stuns, and resets until I could get my +1. It’s literally the only way I can win a 1v1 without purple power… wait for it to be a 1v2.
I wish the developers could see the damage they’re doing by forcing people to play for the delay instead of being able to succeed without it.
Here’s a new one. How about having affixes designed in ways that don’t box us out of play completely? Anyone else having a laughriot trying to get group invites against Afflicted in its intro week?
You could leave everything as it is, and I would be pretty happy with this change alone. It wouldn’t be hard to be aware of either. You listen for BTE, which makes a very distinctive sound, and you ready yourself for the hit.
Revert ALL CC nerfs to pre 10.0. NO blind n caps, no bind into sap. This is the worst outplay potential i have ever seen for rogues and the dumbest rogues have ever functioned at a fundamental lvl.
Imagine rogues being able to area dispel poisons with something like poison bomb. Imagine it. Think about where the game is and where the designers are taking affixes, and think about obvious things we don’t but very well could have while still maintaining the ecosystem of spec diversity. Things could be a lot better than they are now.
Imagine being able to hand out crimson vials like healthstones. Imagine being able to apply weapon poisons to the swords and axes of allies. Imagine Kidney being brought back to full by being a knockdown instead of a stun.
It all just needs a real big rethink, and today’s continued lack of 10.1.5 news is pretty gloomy for any new outlook.
Make poisons apply permanently until changed by the player. What is the point of making us reapply every hour?
More focus in our toolkit. I feel like there are too many overlapping skills and abilities that simply exist just to fill a cooldown gap in a rotation.
