You aren’t “missing out” and you aren’t being “punished” though. The content is always going to be there (err… 99% of the content anyway) and if you take breaks, you’ll simply reach the goal slower than someone who puts in more time. But seeing as the rewards are the same, I don’t see how that matters in the slightest. It isn’t a race and there’s no clock to beat so you’re only hurting your own enjoyment of the game by stressing so much and treating it like a job.
Yeah but blue didn’t use to tie so many essential things behind rep grinds, they were generally very optional
In bfa they block progression
All they need to do to make the rep grind more tolerable is make some small tweaks.
Like I said above, 150 rep for regular WQ, 250 for elite.
Furthermore increase the contract from 10 rep, to 50 rep.
And lastly, return the neutral token system from Legion, when you turn in a neutral faction emissary you can select a rep token for one of the other factions.
10 rep contracts are ridiculous. 25 quest, about an hour of game time for ONE regular quest worth of rep.
I mean… ignoring the islands for doubloons (Which I ignored) its maybe 1 1/2 - 2 hours a day tops, which I know for a fact since I did it… unless you really suck at the game, then I suppose it would take longer
If playing for that short a period of time is
Then I don’t know what to tell ya. Do the bare minimum and accept that its going to take longer and even then its only going to be about a week or two longer if you cut out the
bits such as doing all the other zone’s WQ’s (roughly 250-350 a day).
Really? Remember when raid bosses were tied behind reputation? IE see Molten Core.
Remember when Heroics were tied behind reputations? See BC (And I think early wrath…? I could be remembering that one wrong…)
I am sorry but its pure hyperbole to try and say that this is the worst its ever been…
See, I’d agree with you if there were some way to catch up later on, but the fact of the matter is, Blizzard designed it this way on purpose to get people logging in every day.
It works, certainly worked on me for a while, but it makes the game feel incredibly like busywork if you’re playing it even remotely how Blizzard intended.
I play the game fairly casually, mind, and I’m perfectly okay with getting the rep slower than those who’re utterly powergaming it. It’s having to do it on Blizzard’s time that bothers me, I hope you understand.
tl;dr: I’d like to be able to gain say 1000 rep one day, and then none for the rest of the week, instead of 100 a day for 10 days in a row
One and a half to two hours of totally unengaging, unchallenging content with no story context, every single day, is exactly what burned me out, tbh. So I can kind of see where they’re coming from with calling it a ‘burnout style of play’, and don’t think it’s purely hyperbole.
I think the whole rep game design is boring and lazy tbh. There really isn’t anything special they have to do but they know its a very simple way of keeping you playing to attain that cosmetic.
Now Im not saying Im for hand outs but the whole rep system is not all that fun.
Its usually boring and when its done you thank the sky that you don’t have to do that piece of content again.
Seems like a bad direction to go for a game experience I feel.
BFA has really gutted alot of the rewards and ways to obtain goals so adding in more ways and options to obtain the rep would bandaid it at least I think.
I spent a lot of time in Islands before all the new fancy additions to them, trying to get mounts and pets, before the QOL improvements.
Needless to say, Islands launch states killed that entire feature for me, can’t even stand thinking about them.
Its a circle jerk shhh. Classic will be so much better then this grindy version retail lmao.
Sounds like wow isnt the game for you if you if you can’t devote the time required to get the things you want.
Things taking time is fine and dandy.
Just they should be fun too, lest I find myself spending my time on something that is.
There’s a rep grind?
LOL…complains about grind of retail…and looks forward to Classic…good luck with the non grind of Classic…lol
Just unlocked Zandalari Trolls. That completes the current allied races for me. I feel I’ve earned the right to have an opinion on this topic.
Unfortunately I’m so burned out from the grind I don’t have the will to level anything else up. I completed LFD Warrior first to 120, Void Elf monk (monk’s are cheating, I know) second, skipped Dark Iron (don’t care for the aesthetics), skipped Nightborn, skipped High Mountain Tauren, I have the cutest little hunter Mag’har waiting at 20, and now the cutest little Zandalari druid waiting at 20… with absolutely no willpower to play them. None.
When the grind is mindless and the reward means you get to do the grind all over again… I find it to be seriously demotivating.
In classic you had the grind but it was different. It was for your main character. That character was going to grind it because no one else had the reward at the end of that chain. And when you got the reward, your max level character enjoyed it. I know. I had a gnome… that had a horse for a mount. I wanted a nightsaber too… but the investment was too high. This… is different. This is a grind for the privilege of starting over again. The character unlocking has no benefit. It’s f’d up completely, so please… stop comparing it to classic.
So I think the allied race rep gating is stupid. Story gating, as I’ve said many times across many characters across many posts on this forsaken forum, is acceptable. Any gating whatsoever has the potential to demotivate players though, especially when you have to start fresh.
Thank you for putting all that together. Appreciate it.
All the story ones, to the point of getting the loremaster achivement. I’m sure there are others, and probably will have to find an addon that lists any I missed.
I had not heard of a “contract”. I’ll google it, or if there is anything I need to know.
This is where I was failing, I imagine, not doing every world quest. Just takes so long and I was finding it very repetitive. I just did the 4 for the daily, and a few more, especially the turtles.
I saw one today, but by the time I got there it was already over. Are they every day?
Yes, I do rep missions whenver I see them, but rarely can get close to 200%. About 140%, so obviously the bonus doesn’t always happen!
Time to grind, I guess!
If you just want the allied races then you can ignore world quests in Nazmir and Vol’dun unless there’s an invasion happening there. All you need to do are world quests in Zandalar (for the Zandalari Empire) and world quests in Kul Tiras (all zones) for Honorbound.
3 weeks as a casual with a full time job and life outside of WoW. What’s your excuse?
I work, maintain a house…go out with the wife, still play pen and paper on the weekends, fill out surveys (thats how I pay for my WoW…) and I am still able to get all the rep got all the races unlocked, and got the 2 factions mounts…with no problem…
Of course
So Inscription can create contracts that give a 7 day buff, while you have the buff you get an additional 10 rep for every WQ you do for the rep of the contract you use.
They are usually anywhere between 300-700gp on the AH depending on server.
Yeah, at minimum try to get all of the ones for Zuldazar -or- Tiragarde Sound depending on if you are getting Zandalari or Proudmore rep.
So they last for 6 hours and then 12 hours after one ends another pops up. The zone they appear in is different each time, but when its in the right zone make sure to hit them up
Ooof, yeah, that’s rough. At least you are making sure to do them, they certainly help.
Yeah, its one heck of a grind via Islands. The item you will want to be buying is
Alliance: Dented Coin
Horde: Island Flotsam
Anyway, hope any of this helped
I’ll do that. Thanks.
