I enjoy getting rep - so earning allied races is fun for me.
PvP is fun for you and it isn’t for me. If I want the rewards I either do something I consider unfun or do without. You rarely see people coming on here and asking blizzard to change the requirements for PvP rewards, yet you guys do it all the time. WHY?
I think there’s a bit of a difference (a big difference, actually) between PvP mounts and such, and an entire playable race.
What if there were more than just one way to earn allied races? Make it so high-level mythics give you a chunk of rep or something.
The rep grind isn’t hard, but it sure is boring. You do you, but it’d be nice if they could be earned doing anything but mindless, effortless WQs ad nauseum.
See, I love stuff like that. Giving players multiple routes on unlocking something. Kinda like gear and player progression, having the options to do Raiding, M+, High End Rated PvP, ect.
Of course, there also comes the problem of “how do you balance it so that players don’t feel forced to do all alternative methods at the same time to maximize unlocking them?” Such as the example of giving rep at the end.
Alternatively, if it was something like “Do the Storyline Quest Chain and then either Max the Rep, Get AotC for the Raid, or Reach XXXX Raiting in ranked PvP” that I feel would provide 3 alternative paths as opposed to three additive paths.
Still, player choice is always a good thing in my mind and I like the suggestion
To get to Exalted to unlock the Zandalari and/or Kul’Tirans? Are you high?
10 to 15 min of WQ’s in each zone is 4 quests tops with travel time and more likely 2 or 3. Even with a Contract that’s less than 400 Rep at most in that time frame. It takes 21000 Rep to go from Revered to Exalted. Do the math!
The Zandalari/Proudmoore Emissary is up around once a week.
The same goes for Incursions unless you can play any time of day or night.
And maybe you can grind Islands to buy the 250 Rep Coin.
Its their game. Of course we gotta do it their way.
You can call it a time gate all you want but this is an MMO. They are all about time gates. Always have been. Always will be.
Disliking the content is irrelevant. I dislike having to work every day but I like the reward, so I do it. If the reward is not enticing enough to do the work, no one is forcing you to do it
There is kinda a big difference. Those rewards all provide direct player power, the Allied Races don’t. Much like Gazfixx’s analogies its kinda a flawed exaggerative analogy. (Though I get you are being hyperbolic to prove a point and its a valid point)
Having alternative paths is not necessarily a bad thing for different aspects of the game as it caters to different tastes for different players, the comparison being (as I said) getting the best possible gear you can on your character. There are three major paths for that with Raiding, M+, and Ranked PvP so that there are alternative play styles for different players that are not additive but exclusive between each other. Mind you, the flaw with my argument would be that those three paths are additive for someone who does all three types of content.
What I am getting down to though is that I honestly do not think there is anything wrong with content having multiple paths to unlock and its an idea worth discussion.
As I already said above, and I know you have read, I have been pretty firmly defending the Allied Race unlock system and that players need to put time and effort in for the things they want. But who is to say that having alternative paths would necessarily be bad, its not like my suggestions are set in stone but more so simply spitballed ideas.
a person should not be able to do one type of content only and get the majority of the rewards in the game.
and yes gear is different and it needs to have multiple ways to get it, however, cosmetics don’t. Cosmetics are there to encourage people to do different types of content and yet aren’t forcing anyone who doesn’t enjoy those content to do them.
Allied races aren’t necessary and I very much hate this idea that people should be able to earn them in different ways just because someone complains about doing the requirements.
So yes, I want the PvP mounts and I don’t want to PvP, so if he gets to have his alternate ways to get allied races, I should be able to have my alternative way to get PvP rewards.
I didn’t bother with the rep grind unless there was n emissary. Made it a lot less tedious bc I wasn’t constant WQ grinding and since emissaries give a good chunk of rep it didn’t feel like it took long. Also if there are specific rep you do want grind you can get a contract for that rep on the AH and get tiny bit of extra rep.
Yep thats pretty much how i did it as well and still do for that gold you get overtime for pretty much doing min effort except this time you have to go out to the world vs just waiting for tables a.k.a legion to be done i like it this way more to be honest
LMAO hahahah overreact much? I hit exalted with all the reps about 2 or so months after the expansion launched and that was just doing all the quest lines while leveling and then doing the daily emissaries. Didn’t put extra effort into it at all and didn’t really use the table for free rep.
Sounds like you started in WoD though if think the rep grind is bad because WoD-Now the rep grind is no where near how it was. This isn’t even really a rep grind.
I’m pretty close to done with reps on this guy and my paladin is into Revered with all of the factions except Tortollans and Champions, neither of which she really needs.
I’ve grinded before in the Vanilla/TBC days and BfA reps aren’t that. This is not a grind. This is a few quests every few days.
Would be neat if the tabards were available to everyone once you’ve done the main quest line in each zone. Then the player can wear that reputation’s tabard and do dungeons and raids with friends and guildies and such to grind the rep that way. Doing nothing but world quests for weeks sucks hard.
You say you just have to do WQ over and over, but thats not true, first you do questing, which will give you a heck of alot of what you need for your rep, I know perish the thought of actually playing thru the story. Then you have warfronts those give huge drops of rep, as with invasions, and Island explorations in turn you can use the coin to turn for rep tokens at the vendor…but the moral of the story is playing the game. It was all unlocked before any of it dropped and cause I played the game, and I got the 2 mounts when the last patch dropped cause…I played the story thru…it’s not that hard…I dont sit in front of the game all day…just run thru the story, do some some WQ’s here and there some warfronts, a few invasions and boom…If you think this is painful…you might as well not even sign up for Classic when it comes out…cause you don’t know when pain is…
I love how in-depth you went and totally agree with almost everything you said.
1500 rep cap is brutal, though. Lol
That’d be 14 weeks from revered to exalted… which is what it feels like it’ll take with the sh@t system we’ve got now. Some days I just can’t bear myself to do WQs or I just don’t have the time.
