Yeah but it isn’t World of Warcraft. The road to killing wow is littered with the corpses of MMOs that people all claimed were better than wow. They all failed miserably.
The sad part is, in my opinion at least, they would probably have fared better without the over-hype. If they had just released a game on its own merits rather than overhyping so that disappointed (and others refusing to play at all because of loyalty based on their claims) then I think more people would have played.
Isn’t FF 14 the only one that still even has a subscription?
Resorting to free 2play is a failure when you started out with subscription. Oh you might make money with your cash shop but you are no longer a pretender to WoW’s throne.
It started F2P with a “Optional” (Wasnt optional, really) Sub, and a cash shop. That killed the game with the “P2W” Cries.
So they made a new version, that is Sub based now.
Switching to F2P I dont agree thats a loss. F2P model makes more money that sub does, ALOT more money.
Sub Works OKAY, when you have ALOT of players. P2W or P2Convience makes more.
I think us, players we prefer Sub Model, but its a proven reality that people will spend insane amounts of money on Games, and F2P gets them in, and the cash shop takes their Cash.
Could be, and I wish them well if that is the case. Don’t take anything I have said to mean I think WoW is the end all be all. I think there is room for a number of good MMORPGS. I play FF on the side… it just gets really really old every time something new is on the horizon “lol WoW is ded!” (not that you did that necessarily, just in general)… makes me want to not even try it.
I’ve never heard of this game until now, and I’m on my PC 24/7, so they’re doing an absolutely terrible job at marketing which suggests to me that the game isn’t going to be very popular, maybe minorly niche at most.
This game releasing will do absolutely nothing to WoW, if Shadowlands is bad that’ll be enough to diminish WoW enough that Final Fantasy XIV will just significantly overtake it. You’re right that Blizzard will be the ones that eventually kill WoW, but only Final Fantasy has come close to doing anything of significance to WoW.
This game isn’t enough to kill anything other than itself, probably, to be completely honest.
All the people claiming they’ve figured out player numbers etc., the only metric wow cares about is money taken in and that’s been doing just fine. Better than fine even. You don’t make bank with hardly any subscribers. It’s highly unlikely that they’ve dropped 80% of players but extracted five or six times more money out of the remaining players to keep the bank roll going isn’t it?
I never said Final Fantasy would kill WoW, just overtake it if Shadowlands is bad enough. Overtake doesn’t mean kill, it means Final Fantasy would simply become more popular in general. You don’t have to kill WoW to surpass it somehow.
That’s true. Their PvP is really bad. I mean don’t get me wrong, I like it…but that is because I don’t PvP and I like that PvE is not impacted by PvP. If you like PvP though, the watered-down-so-much-it-may-well-not-exist of FF isn’t ever gonna scratch that itch.
