The PVP gear grind is broken

idk why they don’t just make the pvp gearing system how it was in Cata/MoP/WoD - it was fine that way. Just let us put sockets in our pvp gear. Only new change I like about the new system

Only reason SL pvp gearing system is better than before is because BFA didn’t have one

Yeah the BFA one was just hot garbage, IDK why they though doing it like that was a good idea TBH.

What I hate…
after each patch they relocate pvp vendors.

IN next patch when they split pvp and pve gear it will kill the game for many players, yes believe or not Blizzard people have lives.

You’d be surprised at how many people can’t get past say a +12 key. I don’t really like the system for PVP either, but Blizzard likes trying to invent the wheel every expac with PVP instead of finding a system that works and keeping it. Balance also plays a huge role in WoW PVP and Blizzard are also really bad at class balance as well. It is what it is, I guess.

I only dabble in PvP. The concept of battling it out toe to toe with other players always seemed fun to me. However, gearing up in PvP has always been, to me, anti-competitive. I understand the desire for progression and rewards, but having it so heavily tied to player power feels terrible.

There isn’t any reason why a new player, pressing the same button as a veteran player, should mathematically do less damage simply because of the virtue that he/she is new. It works with scripted fights against dragons, but feels terrible in a competitive game against another human.

My friend sat in an hour long queue at 3k mmr before giving up. That is an issue with the system, not the players.

That system of having less gear can kinda be excused when overtime you can earn the exact same conquest gear that the people beating you have. Kind of a rite of passage in the spirit of mmos, with every bruising you get a bit closer to being on par or at least really close to on par

And i think thats fine

Where its not fine is when no matter how beaten up you get you can never be on the same foot as the people beating you because its unrealistic for most players to get the rating required while competing from the backfoot, making it just plain unfun to be forever undergeared

Thats my imo

This was the biggest pvp related mistake this xpac imo.

I guess I don’t see it that way. I don’t think there is really a reason to have to “pay your dues” in a competitive video game through player power. The “pay your dues” comes from the veteran player having more experience than the new player, so the new player gets outplayed. It creates an environment where a new player wants to learn and get better to play at that level.

Mathematically “paying your dues” just feels wrong to me. It’s actually a negative impact in two ways. If New Mage and Veteran Mage cast Frostbolt at the same time, how it is fun to have Veteran Mage not only hit for more damage, but take an even larger percentage from New Mage’s health because New Mage also has less HP? There is zero skill involved in that, and each player literally pressed the same button. That isn’t fun (well, for New Mage at least).

I’d rather lose a match because of the other player’s clutch performance, try to figure out what they did, and use that new knowledge in the next match.

Oh i get that, i actually hate the entire obtaining gear part and would rather make a character thats all ready to go and queue pvp instantly lol

But its unfortunately an mmo and i don’t think they’ll ever remove gear progression entirely. I feel mop and wod pvp gearing was a happy middle between easily accessible equivalent gear and keeping the mmo gear progression aspect

The current devs seem to be forgetting that gear in pvp is more a means to an end rather than the point of the activity

I agree, but I also believe that the content drought and players leaving until 9.1 also is playing a huge role in the gap. I can barely find games in 1800 some days at the moment. That’s also after going through the massive amount of WTS adds for carries. The whole game is a mess for a lot of things at the moment.

Yeah, that’s definitely the tough part. It’s important in an MMO to have progression and reward, and I don’t think many would be happy with strictly cosmetic rewards. Just wish we could find a way to reward veteran players that invest the time while simultaneously allowing new players to enter the arena with something other than a stick and a pot lid.
