First of all, this isn’t an argument for things to return to dampener games like BC (even though that was before dampening), or BFA, however I do believe the current state of dmg/burst is a big contributor to the lack of healers and I’ll explain why.
The higher the dmg and burst, obviously, the faster the reaction times need to be. In many cases, simply reacting to dmg/burst won’t be fast enough even using all your cd’s. You literally need to be able to recognize conditions (positioning, burst coming off CD, defensives on CD, CC being setup, certain abilities used, etc) so that you can respond before the damage even starts.
Now this is all well and good, but of course this requires experience, time, extensive game knowledge, understanding proper positioning etc from the healer, while often times requiring none of that from the dps doing the bursting. Burst and damage need to be high enough to allow skillful play to award kills, but currently it is EXTREMELY unforgiving to entry level healers trying to learn the ropes.
Right now, things can blow up in your face so fast you often have to check your dmg log just to see what the hell happened. As much as dps may love this fast pace meta, I think it’s clear that healers generally don’t. On top of that, healthbar’s are often yo-yo’ing up and down so fast you literally feel like a healbot, spamming heals 24/7…leaving very little time to risk setting up CC or contributing dmg. In fact, it’s often so risky to do so that unless you’re a veteran player that can recognize dangerous situations…you’re better off just ranging and healing until someone dies.
Anyways…I think there is a middle ground between BFA and the current meta. Until things change…regardless of what rewards are given to healers for queueing (in any bracket), I don’t see things getting much better.
If only you didnt need a weak aura package or big debuffs to track when the best time to pop said defenses. Why they havent added tracking to the ui yet is beyond me.
I guess it depends on interpretation of damp but games where people aren’t randomly pressing can drag on for some quite time, for better or worse. Matchup also plays a factor because in general I feel wizard cleave mirrors can really drag on.
Just four casters poking each other from 45 yards while their mistweavers tab in and out.
This is pretty much how I feel. Sometimes it feels like the dps have a 100% uptime with CD’s. Ill use all my CD’s and my teammate dies. Another thing is ( I dont know how other people feel about this.) I feel like CC has gotten long, but I guess with the extreme pace it would feel that way.
Yeah, in general the healer can only do so much to save somebody unwilling to save themselves. You can only make so many inefficient trades to offset their mishaps until the game ends because throughput falls off a cliff with aggressive dampening.
Hmm. CC in general doesn’t seem bad, although I could see a few outlying specs getting adjustments.
I havent played a lot this season mainly because SS is so damn infuriating. As I was writing that I had the realization CC probably feels longer because DPS stand out in the middle of the map getting man handled why I am in CC and refuse to kick poly…
This is a very common argument that is very ambiguous and gray. In any particular meta, the most prominent comps will be the most “damp”, unkillable and tank with the best healer (obviously). This is why MW is so strong rn. Whatever pace of the preferred game it is you are referring to, people will still find and play the most damp comps, especially at the high end where games are exceptionally longer due to an understanding of how to kite, peel, trade, position, avoid cc, etc.
I actually agree with this, idk what changed but for some reason this season you can actually live 99% of the time if you press your buttons. Games feel long.
