Let me start this off by saying I’m fine with % based abilities being in the game. They’re good for breaking hard targets like tanks and healers, and it makes new chars/fresh people marginally more useful in PvP.
The problem is that Blizzard gave % based abilities to the wrong people. They gave it to ranged. I still don’t know why Blizz thought it would be a good idea to give such powerful tools to classes that have reasonably safe delivery methods for it, but they did.
IMO, the stronger fight deciding % based abilities should have been given to melee (and tempered accordingly since it’s melee) since their delivery systems aren’t as safe as just sitting back and free casting. If we’re gonna go into specifics, they shouldn’t be given to any melee with an immunity or stealth.
Edit: And no this doesn’t mean i want instant melee range gpies because that’d be broken. If future % based abilities were to be introduced,
I think if it was melee and it had a cast time and it couldn’t be speed up by haste along with it not being a high % then it maybe could be balanced, maybe.
Yes. However, that doesn’t mean the %'s should chunk like Gpyro. I’m thinking of abilities that can consistently pick away while putting the user in the line of fire so there is risk that at the same time can’t be spammed.
Reverse/Expel Harm is a great example of this. Can’t be spammed. Puts the user in the line of fire to be used offensively. Can kill tanks as i’ve 1v1ed several.
Another one is Pressure Points/ToD execute. It essentially always executes at 10% barring immunities and other shenanigans. If you whiff (happens more often than you’d think), it goes on CD for 2 min and once again puts the user in the middle of things.
The point I’m trying to get across is that, % based abilities have their place. However, it isn’t as some giant doom nuke. I don’t think melee should have melee versions of instant Gpyros. It should be more like a reliable pick that never fails.
I say this from the point of view of a simple question. What would you rather have to deal with in BGs? Dakka lines of casters with heavy flak because Gpyro and other big casts supported by healers hiding in the back. Or no dakka lines.
They could use some tuning too. It’s still annoying, hilarious, and befuddling how fury warrior can outheal WW, and keep pace pretty well in terms of mobility.
I agree to a certain extent, but that’s a biiiiiiig if and I’m sure we’re not the only ones that were disappointed with the PvP tuning changes after the last AWC. Tuning destro and fire mage only remedies half of what’s annoying in BGs. The other half being healers are really strong and allowing such buildups of dakka lines to form and sustain themselves.
Hard to say. If anything I’d like to keep big % abilities out of the hands of ranged to start. See where things develop from there. I discussed melee having % based abilities because i think there should be risk involved with powerful abilities like that and not just sitting in the back free casting and having your healer tank for you.
As for nerfing healers. I think that they’re really strong in BGs and without big hitters from casters/ranged, so it’s kind of a coin toss of what will happen. Either dakka lines are gonna be even longer lasting because people aren’t gonna get sniped as hard, or be easier to break because of less flak for melee. If a course of action is to be taken regarding them, I can think of a way to neuter them with irony in BGs and not affect arenas.
I can understand your sentiment to a certain degree. However, the flipside is ToD in its burst form getting cheesed by XYZ. It’s basically an 8 second baby Chaos Bolt, and I’d rather WW not lose one of the few definites it has left.

Are you trying to say WW is bad? Because it certainly isn’t.
You have baseline Wounds and 5% phys dmg increase.
1 min Karma, 1 min ToD. 2 Stacks of EWF.
It’s still an extremely viable spec and if you’re being doused by everything else i guarantee you’re doing something wrong.
% abilities should not at all exist. I mean, Gpy by itself isn’t even bad.
It’s bad because of what it plays with which is primarily locks in MLX. It becomes how little damage to take as possible rather than counter play stop dmg.
As far as BG/RBGs. I swear to god Arcane just performs better by itself and with whatever it’s queuing with. And it keeps up with VDH FC which is virtually unheard of for all casters outside of 2min fire combust which can just be and stopped and then you’re left with nothing outside of kidney or your next combust in 2 mins.
I’ve seen WWs top damage boards in front of warlocks, mages, Spriests and UHDKs on every single map. And this was last season, before you had corruptions are your disposal too.
It’s definitely possible. Yes, it requires more dedication to learn and then also to pull off but the reward is there it’s just unfortunate some specs have an easier time doing it.
i think Jugaa is just upset she doesn’t have any %HP abilities herself.
@OP, i have both ranged and melee %HP abilities, like any spell they have their advantages and their drawbacks, they need proper use in the proper situation
nobody would qq about greater pyro if you could drop an AoE and kill it before it reaches you.
actually, come to think of it that would be pretty cool, imagine a mage casts greater pyro at a hunter, but the hunter shoots the blast mid flight, adding energy(increasing its damage) and knocking it back at the mage. the mage then casts pyroblast/scorch at the grpryo to knock it back at the hunter and increase its damage. the two dump as much dps into the fireball as they can until one overpowers the other knocking the now giant greater pryro into the other killing them instantly.
would be much cooler than what we have now, especially if the mage has to dump his subsequent greater pyros into the first, but you know, blizz is going with a lame cd.
Because they both hit about the same (prolly a lil less with ToD). Except ToD has 8 seconds before it ticks and a 2 minute CD. And from what I’ve heard and seen CBs have been getting below 2 second casts.
No. I’m saying ranged shouldn’t have % based abilities. And as for being at the top of killboards in BGs. Yea i know WW can do that. Been making hills of corpses for a while.
There are many other factors to consider here. Yes you can interrupt casts, but then you have to be concerned with the healer supporting the dakka line, the other ranged in the dakka line, and the person you just interrupted now having essentially a free pass to cast CC who you probably have to commit cc to to stop the cast. And after like 4-6 seconds, they can freecast again. Wooo big risk. And that’s not even factoring if the caster went to juke school or just peels back further into the dakka line.
Hah. I’d love for this to be a more prevalent thing in BGs, but that brings us to the topic of BG terrain design and how there is a lot of open space and few things that block LoS even though they block pathing and objs being in wide open shooting galleries instead of a small building.
