Then why not just release all of the content plus TBC now? Do you think that would be a good thing?
I think it would be better if they waited at least a couple of years for TBC, rather than 1.5 years, or 1 year, or 6 months, to give more than just the very top hardcore guilds time to progress through all of the content.
Are people under the impression you can get full BiS gear from Dire Maul or something? You think it has BiS gear in every slot for every spec over the current content? It has like a few slots at most for a lot of specs.
Dire Maul is a lower item level than MC, it’s only blue and there is gear in dungeons like Strat that beats out MC gear in some cases up until BWL. In some cases like Sunken Temple random modifier gloves, you have a BiS item for healers that’s level 40 something that beats out raid gear even at phase 2.
What are you even complaining about? Do you even know?
Folks who think only the hardcore super no-lifers are going to stick around have no clue what makes those people really tick.
Those are, if anything, the archetype of player that will quit before anyone else so that when they choose to “Retire” while they still have better gear than “the rest of the baddies/plebs” and not the other way around. The try-hards, no-lifes, poop-socks, whatever you want to call them are ALREADY bored and salty because they don’t have anything else to do which they haven’t already spent the last three weeks doing. These are the folks who are going to quit, not the people who have 1-15 hours per week to play, that population of players is going to remain healthy for a LONG time.
Meanwhile, the hardcore players are going to either find something else they can dump their expendable time on, be it another game, Retail, or simply punching-down at folks on the forums, it’s just what they do.
Regardless, more content is more content and it’s a good thing. If the speedrun gold farm strat gets out of hand as the bored elitists run them non-stop and ruin the economy, I’d bet my hat that steps will be taken to correct the situation, the layering exploit and dungeon reset bans proved that much to me so far.
I think there are hundreds of thousands of people who all have differing views so Blizzard needs to balance the players VS shareholders and no matter what someone will be unhappy.
I think we’ll have a solid two years of Classic content at the current pace and we’ll probably get an announcement on TBC sometime near the end of q4 next year.
Just like every other change people have been up in arms over it won’t actually be that big of a deal and a month from now no one will care, they’ll be on to the next big outrage (i’m guessing complaining about Flight Paths being camped).
What exactly gets obsoleted? People aren’t forced to play the new content, and if you can’t find forty people who refuse to do anything but Phase 1 stuff, then clearly you’re in a minority small enough to not be the guiding force in the decision.
And if it’s PvP you’re worried about, the addition of new items will mean that the L60 people who were camping the L20s will only spend half an attack one-shotting them, assuming they haven’t already driven the opposing faction completely off the server by being dicks.
There isn’t any power creep involved unless you decide to short-circuit something, in which case, you obviously wanted it.
all 5 man dungeons become obsoleted by new content. and to a degree MC too, (ZG/DM are easier, and way better gear). I remember by 1.12 most people didn’t bother with dungeons, the gear gap was too high so everyone just raided or stayed in greens.
right now you can’t gear a character to a point where they are god compared to blue/green geared players. once more gear comes out you’ll get gods vs nobodys.
you don’t get that it just creates a retail problem, too much content where people only do some of it. you get basically world that’s overwhelming with lots of content being useless and obsoleted.
Classic is best in it’s phase 1/2, after that I feel it’s down hill toward retail.
