The only guiding philosophy I see: Player feedback is meaningless

In todays world

I can write a long letter. Enclose photos. Enclose documents. One button press and its there in a few seconds. Halfway across the world. Into ORBIT.

OR

I could laboriously hand write it all, stck it in an envelope, send it by smail mail and hope it doesnt disappear.

NO ONE has that kind of time to waste anymore. You dont send resumes by mail, you email them.

You dont send reports by mail, you send them electronically.

You dont buy stuff in stores, you order it online.

You dont buy games in shops (you can but you dont have to), you buy and download them.

You dont have to manually sign documents, they have whats called an e - signature.

In this day and age, time, even in leisure, is at an absolute premium.

The idea that in modern gaming, worthless and useless timesinks to extend time online to no real result are still a “good thing for an MMO” is as dead as the Dodo and for good reason.

Games these days use modern design that MAXIMISES potential, game design uses and incorporates flight, portals, teleports, to good effect. it can be done. it has been done.

And that is a topic we need to discuss with open minds and the ability to see both sides on’

I think the problem is that you don’t actually like being a part of an mmorpg and it’s world.

Yet other MMO’s dont seem to have the problems Blizzard is having.

They won’t find one. BFA was a broken mess on launch. Hell area52 wasn’t playable all day the first 24 hours lmao

In case anyone looks at that orbit comment and laughs, the sat uplink to ISS and communications channels can send and receive data at a very fast rate. it is childs play to write a 400 page report and send it to them in seconds.

I play games that maximise the quality of time spent online. Getting things done in the time allotted for the activity.

No it isnt, WOW may be having issues…no one else is.

Oh you mean Beta test or PTR realms something like that.

Yeah, like then Bliz could have tried out the azerite system, and players could have been like ‘oh no, this has issues!’ and then Blizzard could have been could have gone about taking those issues based on the feedback they receive.

Blizzards design philosophy has been bad for several years - they really don’t take into account what players want. Now, after years of making changes that players don’t like, it’s starting to feel really poignant.

They were definitely never super-complex, but there are quite a few specs that went from very interesting and engaging to super boring.

Just look at all the combo points-style mechanics we’ve got now.

Are people really trying to pin this on the community again?

Players reported a ton of stuff in the betas, and then on PTR, and it goes unchanged. Some of it until much later major content patches. Not all of it are major bugs.

The feedback on those items arrives too late in the development cycle for them to do meaningful turnaround on it. This cart goes before the horse by design.

Stop blaming players for the developers’ bad decisions.

Opening post is a bit hyperbolic for my tastes, and I don’t really agree with most of it (too simplistic and not pointing to anything specific). Having said that, the portal thing I think has been a notable failure in PR, in that they asked for feedback (multiple times in fact, each of the posts in that first thread where the CM asked questions) and then proceeded to openly appear to ignore it (the second thread where they answered ‘why’, incorrectly I might add, and didn’t really address any other concerns).

I’m not saying that’s actually what was intended or anything, and don’t be trying to twist this to support white or black knight agendas, but it definitely doesn’t paint a very good picture with how it played out.

I love how people take metrohaha seriously … like c’mon.

What the OP means is, “Why don’t they respond to my feedback? It’s so unfair!”

Player feedback only matters when it fits their image of what they think would work. It’s more of Ion looking at what THEY think is better and how THEY want the game to be so a lot of the feed bck that they do listen to is quite minor - it was only the past year that they’ve started to shift into listening mode to complaints that are echoed by a lot more people.

The rest can be explained away by Ion’s awesome power of PR lingo.

Don’t forget, they’re only scrapping Azerite (which has been widely panned since alpha/beta) after saying we’re wrong and trying to fix it twice, obviously failing both times.

I think the problem is you are using 2004 gameplay as a benchmark for a 2019 world.

You are 15 years out of date, your mindset is not anywhere near what modern game and MMO design is today…I saw an interview tonight with an MMO designer and director who flatly contradicts what you claim.

You dont KNOW what modern MMO design is like at all…else youd not be maklng these statements.
