Why? I don’t understand it. Survival hunters have bombs. Engineers have gadgets. Not to mention that it would have to be relegated to gnomes and goblins. Of all possible classes, why the tinkerer ?
I don’t get it either but at least it’s somewhat of a different idea then most of the new class ideas put forward.
imo, people want that… well engineer class Wildstar had. (RIP)
combined with mech suits to fight with that exo suit game play that exists in Overwatch
or like in the the dungeons and raids where they are in a mech suit.
As someone who plays both a goblin and gnome “tinker”-based class, most of the “tinkering” is locked behind the profession. Engineering is one of the most unfun professions you can level in World of Warcraft and it doesn’t pay off until you can either craft transmogs or mounts, in my opinion.
I don’t get it either. But to be honest, I don’t get a whole lot about much else lol.
I don’t get it either, I don’t at all understand the interest in an engineer as a class instead of something like a blood mage
But, people like what they like I suppose
Why’s that? Just hit it with the “gnomes/goblins taught other races” logic and boom, more races added.
I just imagine a Tauren or a Night Elf in mecha and I laugh. That’d be hilarious.
Not sure about why many people would like Tinker, but there are more possible choices than just Goblin and Gnomes. Draenei tech is a lot of the times overlooked and they have made things more impressive than Goblin and Gnomes with their warframes and spaceships. Imo, they’d be the superior Tinker race if they still had the materials of their planet to build things.
Imo, Draenei Tinker in a Warframe battle suit is highly possible.
Other races that can do it lore friendly are:
Dwarves
Humans
Blood Elves
Nightborne.
Honorable mention to Void Elves if the Void can reshape robots. Doubtful, though…
The last two have had magic enhanced machines, so who says they cannot make suits? If Blizz brings Tinker like THAT, giving each available race a mecha that goes with the race and not one Goblin/Gnome themed robot for everyone, it’d be amazing, because you’d be seeing even magically enhanced robots instead of just… a mechanic.
Shhhhshshshshsushh… That requires people to critically think about what they want! Can’t have that! They want to just want it without realizing that it would be hard to make unique.
Tinker with a robot that fights for you while you throw bombs from that back? Congrats, you’re arguing for ranged Survival Hunter again!
Having a tinker customize and fight in a mech suit is the only way to make it unique, and I kinda doubt Blizz is willing to go there. But I could be pleasantly surprised!
Seriously though, all the other new classes that people propose have similar problems.
Necromancer? We have demo locks and unholy DKs already.
Blood mage? Shoots you with… blood… bolts… instead of frostbolts? And isn’t a blood DK?
Bards? Do you really think Blizz could balance a buff class?
We don’t need new classes, we need balance and stronger identity for the ones we have.
Pretty much.
Adding another class would just be stretching the class balance even further. No thanks lol
I’d rather see talents that change the playstyle of a current spec, like glad stance and cop. You could have a talent that turns enhance into a tank, one that gives back ranged sv, etc…
For several reasons (note that I probably wouldn’t use it but here’s why it’s most considered):
- it’s a unit from the original Warcraft games (like everything else implemented in WoW)
- it’s fairly unique (not really stepping on any toes if it’s implemented as a mech class/fixer the way most people want it)
- WoW does have a surprising lack of tech classes for a high fantasy revolving around a mix of magic AND technology.
There’s also bard but 1. and 3. doesn’t really apply to them…

I was told it’s the final hero ‘class’ from W3 That hasn’t made it into WoW.
-
Gazlowe and Mekkatorque can represent the class
-
Mechagon’s advanced spoils are opened to Goblins and Gnomes
-
Demonstration by Reaves in Legion engineering
-Missed the opportunity to become a class when Azerite was still vital in war machines during BfA
-Goblins and Gnomes aren’t popular enough to sell an expansion based on their appearances
-Engineering profession
I think it is silly personally, but if they do add it as a class I hope it is gnome and goblin only so I can watch the world burn.
The best way I can explain it is this:
- When we have Technology themed Zones, and Technology themed Races, and Technology themed Quests, and Technology themed Dungeons… It feels like we’re missing a Technology themed class.
- Above, you said this.
Tinkers are more than Bombs and Gadgets. The Original Tinker Hero unit from WarCraft 3 Shot missiles, Fought in a Mech Suit, and Built Turrets. Like we see Racial Leaders like Gazlowe an Mekkatorque do.
So: Engineering doesn’t provide the Fantasy we’re looking for, and Hunter is themed around Nature and Animals, It could not be less like a Tinker.
- We have almost every hero From WarCraft 3 as a playable class now. Every Class has abilities that are directly inspired by WarCraft 3 Heroes. The only notable one that isn’t playable yet, Is Tinker.
I hope that explains why so many people want the class.
I’m pretty sure 90% of tinker threads are made by one person so they’re not really that popular. It’s just that one person spamming threads.
Only way people will understand is when blizzard gives us the class
I don’t get why demon hunters should be a class. Warlocks have demons, and we already have hunters. Of all the possible classes, why demon hunter?
As much as I would want balance it’s a farce to chase perfection as it will leave people burnt out once what is perceived to be ‘decent balance.’
Nothing will ever be balanced properly until a rework is done for all classes once more to properly define what’s what and people really don’t want to relearn their classes again. It’s better to work on something new and go from there.
