The obsession with the tinker class

You can make a game fun, or you can make a game perfectly balanced. There is no in between

Striving for “Good Enough” balance is all that matters to me.
Can every class clear the latest heroic raid content and mythic +15? If so, good. The game is balanced enough.

Personally, I don’t understand people who don’t understand the want for a Tinker class. There are plenty of posts that explain it pretty well so I won’t repeat. Also, it’s Tinker, not Tinkerer. If you think it’s bad English, go take it up with High Tinker Mekkatorque or something.

As for my own personal opinion on it, I don’t really think we need another class. But if they are going to do one Tinker has much more chance than… Necromancer (So a demo lock with undead instead of demons) or Bard (wow doesn’t have them ANYWHERE) which are the other 2 big ones.

Frankly, I would expect the name to change.

Tinker is the Iconic name from WC3 but they could easily change it to something that gets the point across clearly. “Mechanic” for example.

Tinker could be a class title, or the name of a spec. Like how “Brewmaster” got changed to monk.

That’s a good point. I could see that happening.

I’m hoping the leaks / talk about that evoker class or what ever are true supposedly ranged and heals / but mage like aesthetically

I sincerely hope the leak is fake because it goes against almost 20 years of class design from this company.

Literally every single class has abilities directly inspired by WarCraft 3, and we aren’t at the bottom of that well yet.

Evoker would prove to me that Blizzard literally doesn’t know what game they’re making anymore.

It’s World of WarCraft.
When we don’t base things on WarCraft. We get stuff like Shadowlands.

Blood Elves to a lesser extent with their magitech is also mildly notable. Even back to WC3 Blood Elf engineers built Energy Towers, Boulder Towers, Flame Towers, Cold Towers, and Death Towers.

I love them so much.

Evoker is legitimately the dumbest idea for a class in the history of class suggestions and leaks. It is literally a mage variant. It sounds like it could be a collection of mage specs. I hope to high hope it is fake. Dark Ranger is better than evoker and I don’t like that class idea either (especially the idea of it getting priority over tinkers or potential necromancers). Even BARDS are better than evoker because at least bards have a shred of originality even if they are not really a concept in Warcraft.

I’ve never even heard of the concept of evokers as a legitimate and distinct Warcraft class that wasn’t basically a title. That’s what really rubs me the wrong way about the class.

I’d put money on evoker being fake.

Micro classes too.

Yup. This!

It’s a very small, but vocal community that wants it.

For just about every expansion almost every leak has tinkers being the class. Gotta feeling most leaks are done by the same few people.

There’s an alliance demon hunter that posts on every new class thread always supporting tinkers and constantly posting stuff about tinkers. So that’s why we see a lot of tinker stuff on here. It’s just a few of the same people constantly posting about them.

Mwah <3
Thanks for noticing me.

But unfortunately that’s just not the case.
I may be loud and vocal about what I want but plenty of people want this class more than any other.
I only post on this character (and every now and then, I make stupid meme posts on my main)
So every other tinker fan you see is someone else. Sorry!

I just have passion for something that makes logical sense, and is easy to formulate arguments for

I didn’t instantly write off micro classes. It at least seemed plausible to me. But evoker seems like someone’s hardly thought out dream class.

At least arcane isn’t getting the “It’s demo’s turn to suck” treatment, even in the unlikely event it’s true. :stuck_out_tongue:

And if it isn’t already in the new expansion, it’s too late to lobby for it now anyway.

To be fair, such a class can work given the magic of the Dragons especially if possible the concept is the power of aspects will be returning.

At least these forums aren’t the mmo-champion forums. There are several posters there who are unhealthily obsessed with tinkers.

I mean, I can understand why it’s a popular idea. And it’s mostly blizzards fault.
Go to the Gnome or Goblin starting zone, or Operation: Mechagon, or Gnomeregan. Or Nazmir / Azshara with the Gob Squad.
Tell me we aren’t missing a class after all that.

Granted I have seen some pretty crazy obsession, but I can also see why it manifests in people

The idea has more flavor than Necromancers, Bards, or Dragonborn, it has ties already to existing races and themes in the game, is represented via a hero in Warcraft 3 where 90% of all our existing class fantasy (for all classes) comes from, and could easily be baked into DPS/Tanking/Healing roles.

What’s not to understand?

they want to run around in mech suits and shoot things…i just hope its not a tinker class.

any other class will do bard dragonborn would be great.

I mean, did you read the sylvanas novel? They focus a lot on her brother who was basically a super good musician with the ability to captivate people.

The only acceptable use of a tinker is repairing silverware while being an indigenous Irish traveller.

I love new classes, bit I don’t get excited about tinker.

I’d rather engineering got some much needed love so any class could be a bit of a tinker.
