The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

I have decided to be optimistic.

I think repairing the permissions problem turned out to be a bigger deal than Ion knew when he promised a fix. It was going to require too many man-hours for such a “minor” glitch. So, they rolled it into a bigger, more complex guild UI overhaul (and maybe an overhaul of the guild system entirely).

THAT’S why it’s been five and a half years with no apparent progress. But, once they get the guild revamp where they want it, they’ll make it a feature of a new xpac–which should be the upcoming The War Within.

(Yeah, yeah, I KNOW we’ve been through several x-pacs now with no fix. I said I was being optimistic. Let me dream, okay?)

You are too kind; IMO if they can create a warband screen that houses 4 of our toons they surely have the expertise to fix the guild permissions issue they they created.
If it became a big issue to fix and Ion was genuine a blue should have provided a response to this thread conveying such; instead, their silence is just further evidence that they do not care about this issue.

Well, I can’t say you’re wrong.

But I’m going to hold onto my little candle of hope a little while longer yet. If they DO make guild changes for TWW without fixing the permissions, we’ll then know for certain it will never happen.

I love you and your little candle of hope, I no take candle.

Still feeling cautiously optimistic about getting something done re permissions. I have no reason to think anything will change, but it makes me feel better to believe otherwise. And the idea that they could implement some of the other suggestions made earlier in this thread also warms my heart’s cockles.

I resubmitted a bug about our GBank/other UI glitches, which many guilds are experiencing. We don’t have an accurate timeline on deposits or withdrawals, sometimes it restores but too many transactions resets the timeline of everything (including guild boss kills, loot drops, M+, achievements) . Here’s the Blizz response (after a 5 month wait):

"Howdy Che,

Game Master Ixzal here and I can understand how this situation with the guild feed would be frustrating. However as previously explained, this situation has already been forwarded to the WoW Dev team. The Devs are aware of the bug and will fix it when they have time. Unfortunately we have no way to force the Devs to fix it any faster. The only thing we can suggest is to please be patient and once they have a fix ready, it will be pushed out for everyone in a new patch.

I know it can be frustrating to wait for a known bug to be fixed but please keep in mind that there is a lot of stuff in WoW. The Devs prioritize which content gets fixed based on the severity of the bug and the number of players impacted. Display bugs with guild information can be annoying but it is a lower priority compared to bugs that cause crashes or prevent people from playing the game. Those bugs are prioritized and other bugs, like these guild feed issues, may be put on the back burner until those severe bugs resolved. "

That is almost exactly the reply I got on my pacifist character when I reported a bug regarding his stats. After a patch (I can’t recall which one at this point) his stats showed 165 kills. As for types of things killed, there was one critter and that was it. Since the character is pacifist, he had just one kill, and that was the critter (he accidentally stepped on one when dismounting).

Now, if the stats were just messed up on this one character, obviously that’s not something Blizz should even waste a second on. But I can’t believe it’s just this one single character that’s encountered this glitch. I don’t think many other folks would even notice a problem like this, since 165 kills for a level 70 is nothing. It was obvious to me only because the character had just the single (accidental) kill prior to the patch.

Basically, I guess there are so many bugs and glitches in the game that only the actual game-breaking ones get attention within a reasonable time. I do hope they get around to fixing the issues you’re having sooner than later though. That’s certainly worse than messed up stats.

Oh, man. Been so busy, I haven’t realized how long it’s been since I poked this deceased equine.

C’mon Blizz. Show some love to guilds. They’re the glue that holds WoW together. Make it easier for Guild Leaders to run their guilds the way that works for them.

I have to admit, I’m excited for some of the things coming up in WoW. I really like the idea of being able to practice dungeons with NPC’s, so I can learn different specs without annoying other players. (Really looking forward to finally learning how to tank!)

Despite all the great things coming, I’m still disappointed there’s been no word about the guild permissions. I just can’t see how it could be that hard to make an advanced tab with check boxes. People could stick with the current all-in-one permissions if they want, or click the advanced tab for granular permissions. Absolute win all around.

Doesn’t a forum mod have to manually extend this thread every time it hits cap? Is there even a point to keep extending it at this point even though it’s become incredibly obvious that Blizzard has no interest in reverting the permissions in any way?

Edit: Blizzard asked for more people to explain why they wanted this. This thread has almost 5400 posts and they never responded after that. Their interest or lack thereof in the subject is clear.

Nah. The forums don’t work that way anymore. There is no cap. That way they can truly ignore this thread.

It’s telling that this thread is older than the current forums.

Threads are capped at 20k by default. At this rate, you won’t cap this thread till about 2035.

That should be about the time they fix the permissions. It all works out. :+1:

Love your optimism.

They uncapped the thread so Ion can get his schadenfreude kicks at those of us who still remember his promise and continue to post.

I’m not sure it was actually a promise. I mean, he didn’t say, “We’ll get to that soon.” He said they were aware of the issue, that it wasn’t intentional, and that they were working on a fix. To me that’s not a promise, that’s a statement of actuality. So, if they weren’t working on a fix, he flat out lied.

Of course, now I suppose I should go look at the video again and see if I’m remembering things correctly. Because it’s been so fricking long that it’s completely possible I’m hallucinating.

Not that it matters, honestly. We all know nothing we say will have any effect on whether or not the permissions are broken up again. It’ll happen, or it won’t. But as long as this thread stays up, I’ll be coming here to nudge them. Just in case someone at Blizz ever actually peeks in.

Just submitted a big report due to our guild bank log no longer working. Looks like many have had the issue for months. I’m pretty sure at this point that Blizzard just isn’t interested in supporting anything guild related anymore.

When Battle for Azeroth launched, everything in my guild bank turned invisible. Or else someone looted it. There was nothing in the log saying anyone took anything, and all the gold was still there. The activity log never showed anyone ever logged on. It’s a completely dead guild and I am the only active member. I put in a ticket and was told the issue would be resolved in the next hot fix.

Yeah. Gave up on that a few years ago. I’m NOT giving up on the permissions though. As long as this thread remains active (and WoW guilds exist) I’m going to keep posting here until something is done.

I do wish someone at Blizz would see the importance of guilds and making sure they function well. Our permissions are one thing, but there are so many other bugs with the logs and bank that it’s hard to keep track. All of these things should be addressed, even if they aren’t so game-breaking that they crash the servers. There’s more than one type of game-breaking, and ignoring bugs is on the list.
