this honestly has convinced me the devs dont play the game anymore. at least not with friends. doesnt take a genius to see this change to guilds is terrible beyond comprehension. i’m actually losing brain cells trying to process what the hell blizzard did.
man didnt realize i was posting back in 2018.
The posting is eternal… it has no beginning or end.
It’s like this thread is the Twilight Zone of threads. I’m betting there’s an episode where the powers-that-be promise the masses a resolution that never comes.
So, what I don’t understand is why there can’t be check boxes by the permissions? Or at least an advanced tab that allows guild leaders to fine tune the guild controls? This whole thing makes no sense to me.
I get that somehow launching the communities feature broke the guild permissions. Blizz did go in early on and fix some of the problems. But what is preventing them from fixing the rest?
Ion said the change was unintentional. If it had been on purpose, there was nothing preventing them from saying so. “Working as intended” is not an unknown phrase for them to use. But Ion said it was unintentional, AND they were working on a fix. SO WHERE IS THE FIX?
I mean, I realize Ion was probably just saying whatever sounded good to him at the time, but why? Why lie about this? Why then go on and ask people to post other suggestions for guild improvements in this thread? This is the kind of behavior that feeds conspiracy theories since it otherwise makes no sense. (Not that I know of any conspiracy theories regarding Blizzard and guild permissions–just pointing out the sheer bizarreness of Blizzard’s actions here.)
Anyway, this doesn’t really keep me up at night or anything. I just wonder about it sometimes.
Yup. Doing what Kippy accuses me of. Don’t care. The issue hasn’t been fixed, so I’m posting. Again.
Do I think that keeping this thread alive will somehow magically make the devs fix our permissions? Of course not. I post because, first and foremost, guilds are the backbone of WoW. They deserve as much (or more) attention as any other aspect of this game. The permissions are only a small part of what needs to be done to help guilds, but fixing them would be a sign that Blizzard understands how important guilds really are.
So, I post. And every now and then, someone else does, too. Even if it’s just to complain about me bumping the thread.
Looks like it’s that time again.
Granular permissions shouldn’t really be that difficult to implement. I mean, I’m not a programmer or game designer, so I could be wrong. But I’m really not sure why there can’t be check boxes or an advanced tab. I don’t see how separating the permissions again would interfere with any other aspect of the game. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this subject could clue me in?
With Blizzcon coming up I thought I’d put this in- I have two friends from another guild I’m in going and with the big fancy tickets…
They both assured me they would ask the devs about guild permissions. So whether or not we actually get an answer, there’s at least that small shining ray of hope LOL
5 friking years!
5 years since Ion told us that the change was unintentional; 5 years since he said a fix would be coming; 5 years since we were lied to, yet I am still here.
I haven’t forgotten.
Excellent summary, Walkerbo. It’s awesome that you have that link to the Dev Q&A right at the point where they come to the guild permissions question.
We sometimes get people dropping by here who don’t seem to believe what we’ve been saying. Now they can click that link and see for themselves.
There is a part of me that wonders why I keep harping on this issue, especially since I have lots better things to do. (Right now I’m supposed to be doing a composition in F-major and another in D-minor for my theory lessons.) But the answer is, I do it because I still care about this game, and I want it to be the best it can be.
Yes, the guild permissions are kind of small potatoes overall, but that doesn’t mean they’re unimportant. Guilds are the foundation of Wow, and anything that helps guilds function better is worth doing.
And now this, just because it’s awesome:
Yup, Ion. We did as you asked.
Any chance of you following through on your end? Ever?
New patch coming next week… I used to think new patches meant we might get lucky and have our fix included, even if it didn’t make the patch notes…
Now I just assume the new patch is just another “HAHA…5 years of not fixing, and still not fixing!” way of rubbing it in…
I used to think new patches meant we might get lucky and have our fix included, even if it didn’t make the patch notes…
Me, too. I figured they broke it without putting in the notes, so maybe they’ll fix it the same way.
I used to believe in fairies and Santa Claus, too.
I realised I am still motivated enough to continue asking Ion to keep his word.
I visit the forums daily, and the first thread I look at is this one, yet I have little to no desire to actually play the game.
What a sad state of affairs.
Yes for those who say, “how stupid to allow such a small thing as this to rob your desire to play” but when I feel ignored and cheated it just builds up as resentment and that is what has eroded my joy of playing.
I am still hoping Ion keeps his word and that means I still care about this game.

Exactly this!
I was still managing to enjoy the game over the last few years, but more and more things kept chipping away at my enthusiasm. The latest thing was a glitch that gave my pacifist character 165 kills in his statistics tab. I put in a ticket, partly because it seemed like if his stats were messed up, other players’ must be also. I got a reply that assured me this was clearly something wrong that needed fixing and it would be mentioned in patch notes when they fix it.
I’m still waiting.
I’m going to be optimistic about the new patch. Sure, there’s no reason to imagine anything will be done for guilds, but gosh darn it, I’m going to hope anyway. It’s like buying a lottery ticket. You know you won’t win, but you can dream for a little while.
I love your optimism, Fumel!

Right lot o’ good it did me. Phhbbt.
I looked at the permissions and was reminded of the ones they DID separate early on. Why couldn’t they have done that with all of them? I truly don’t understand how it can be a simple check box for some permissions, but then the rest have to be lumped together. Ion said the mashup wasn’t intentional, so how could they take some out and not others? What’s the difference?
It is genuinely baffling to me, it seems like such a minor ask…
And it would make things so much easier! I have a ton of guild members I would trust with some of the officer stuff, but I do not need them in my officer chat by default. My options now are wildly dilute leadership chat OR forego a much more convenient and shared daily task load, and it’s just DUMB.
I think that’s why I keep coming back to this, it just never stops mildly irritating me in my guild management tasks, and it seems so avoidable.
Did you get your music theory work done? (I’m here procrastinating on a video editing project I’m supposed to already be done with…)
