Every guild related item needs a lot more attention in general and -consistently-.
WoW is an MMO. The whole point is to find ‘your people’ and then do all of the things with them.
Guild Finder is a joke and cuts off guild information as well as applicants notes to the guild they are applying for. If you check ‘large’ guilds only, it still shows folks guilds with like 40 members. If you check ‘raids’ only, it shows you super casual guilds.
I could go on and on, but I just wanted to show my support for reinstating the permission options as well as point out the lack of love for guild related things over time. Guilds should really be first priority for attention in a game that relies heavily on players interacting with one another.
I feel like the tools didn’t used to do that but, just like the mechanism of the ‘who’ command, it’s been tinkered into a progressively worse and worse version of itself until it’s unusable slag. “But that’s okay because we’re moving on to something else and by the time anyone notices I’ll be in a new project group…”
We’re not “devolving into complaining”, we “have a legitimate complaint” because a system we relied on as part of the social fabric was sacrificed on the altar of trying to get their target demographic to leave Discord and failing miserably.
Well, I can see my other characters now, but I can’t seem to change to them.
Anyway, I’m in total agreement with the folks that want more attention paid to guilds. Years ago on this thread, folks were making all kinds of cool suggestions for guild improvements because we were specifically told to do so. Eventually, people started to realize this thread is where ideas go to be ignored, not acted upon.
Though I strongly doubt our permissions will ever be fixed, I still have hope that Blizz will show some kind of love to guilds–and do it soon.
So I have a member of my guild who keeps deleting his messages in guild chat. I’ll log in and see swathes of “This message has been deleted by PLAYER”
There doesn’t appear to be a setting to disable a player’s or even a ranks ability to delete their own messages or am I over looking something?
So, I just went and double checked this on Fumel. There is no setting that will disable a member’s ability to delete their messages, though you can prevent them from making messages in the first place.
I logged onto another alt that’s in Fumel’s guild, made a message in guild chat, then right clicked the character’s name in the chat. That gave me several options, including the option to delete the message, which I promptly did. There was nothing Fumel could do to prevent it.
Yay! Managed to switch characters. So, this is probably not something Blizz will ever change because people want to be able to delete the dumb things they say. However, you can have a chat with the player involved and tell them you don’t want them deleting their comments. You can disable their ability to make comments in guild chat if you need to. It just depends on how important this is to you. If it really matters, you may have to make a rule, and then kick anyone who doesn’t abide by it.
I’m not expecting any changes to the permissions at this point, but it would be nice if Blizz showed more interest in guilds all around. The Microsoft thing doesn’t give me a lot of hope. I doubt they want to put a lot of development into an old game. On the other hand, Microsoft can’t ignore us any more than we’re already being ignored.
Well, no, I haven’t checked to see if anything has been done with the permissions. I really should do so before I make a post here, but somehow I already know they haven’t changed. (And honestly, I wouldn’t mind at all if I looked like a fool for complaining without looking and it turns out they DID separate the permissions out again.)
This simply isn’t an important thing to many players. Even for forum stats this is a pretty low issue.
5,291 comments and 1,905 (36%) are made by the same 4 people. 1,180 (22%) are made by the same person. Most of which are just spam bumps for the topic. This was never much of an issue for most players.
And yet you continuously keep coming back to insult the people affected that Ion himself said was an an unintended issue and that at the time they were working on a fix.
If what Ion said was an issue bothers you so much, then mute the thread and you will never see it again.
Ya know, I said this a couple of years ago. I’m not letting this thread die until Blizz either fixes the permissions or closes the thread down. If that means it ends up with 75% of the posts being bumps from me, then so be it.
OF COURSE IT’S NOT AN ISSUE FOR MOST PLAYERS. Most players aren’t guild leaders. It doesn’t even matter if it’s not an issue for most guild leaders. It’s still a problem that Blizz caused unintentionally, and which Ion said they were working on.
It won’t hurt you in any way if they actually get around to fixing it, and I fail to see how this thread causes any problems for you.
But again, if you want to come in here and post, thus raising awareness of this topic once again, I really don’t have a problem with it. Complain about the thread all you want. I, for one, appreciate your efforts at keeping this thread alive.
Power was out for 52 hours. Not fun. Now I can finally go do some Darkmoon Faire. I realize nothing has changed with the permissions, but somehow just being able to log in feels like a victory.
Yup. Plus a few weeks. We forgot to have an anniversary celebration.
I don’t believe anything will change, either, but I’m still going to be posting and asking for granular permissions and the other cool guild improvements people suggested when Ion asked for them. Well, I think it was Lore who said to put our suggestions here in this thread, but Ion was sitting next to him when he said it.
