I’ve been wondering if the removal of the old /groster command might be because they actually are working on the guild interface. Maybe they are adding some of that functionality to the current interface. They already have a bunch of QOL improvements coming with the next patch. Is it too much to imagine they might be doing something for guilds as well?
Something is definitely going on…but I’m not sure it’s benign. Some of the little things the Guild Interface used to provide are starting to slow to a stop or simply not being updated.
The first thing I noticed is that the News started filtering out kills in raids, player achieves, and even some gear upgrades players were getting. While the gear thing is currently still happening, it happens late, often days after but they are announced as having happened when updated. The main example of this would be Tuesday looting at the Vault. At the start of the expansion (and all others), I could simply check in on the Guild News on Tuesday afternoon my time, and see who got what upgrades so we would know what we were chasing during M+/Raids. This update often does not occur until days later. Not good for our M+ goals but works out for our Fri/Sat/Sun raids…for now. Pure neglect imo, tho.
The other example I can provide is the Guild Bank. It has not updated deposits (gold or otherwise), movement of materials from tab to tab, or anything in over 2 months. This was an important tool in knowing whom to thank (and who to watch for “extra” withdrawals) in Guild. I don’t know what the explanation is, I have sent in a ticket however and asked. It’s been about a week now and it is still pending. I’ll get an answer soon I think, I usually hear back from them in about 48 hours tho.
As I have mentioned before, I decided to put all my “eggs” into the Community basket assuming they would eventually replace Guilds and get the basic functionalities that are left. In my opinion, I think that’s what is happening now, as slowly but surely they are removing little things from Guilds and seeing if anyone notices…or cares. One of my theories also involves characters being in multiple “Guilds” through Communities. since I’m sure during the transition, Blizz will have Guilds remain as vestigial pieces, mostly for BankAlts and families. They are rushing headlong into this without considering a number of ignored pieces that could lead to a fairly interesting meltdown…
EDIT: Blizz responded that I should clear my cache and sent a looong explanation of about 9 things I should try. I checked in with other guild leaders and they are experiencing similar issues, but not quite as severe as mine with the “2 Months Ago” thing.
So, at the start of BoA, my guild bank went blank. All the tabs were empty, though the log didn’t show anything being taken out. My guild is dead, so there weren’t really any active members logging in anyway. I put in ticket after ticket and then finally just gave up. (The guild’s gold was still there.)
You may be right. Seems weird that they would bother with cross-faction guilds though. Unless that’s just part of the transition.
This honestly sounds like a lot of the things Blizz has done with the game in the last several years.
Lo and behold…after refusing to reset all my game settings, somehow, miraculously, my GBank issues all went away. I did nothing and something happened. Hmmm…I also confirmed with other guild leaders that their GBank issues also disappeared. Guild news etc all seems right again.
Not sure if you saw this little tidbit buried in a very long Blue Post/update this week, Icy Veins and Wowhead noticed:
" ITEMS AND REWARDS
CROSS-REALM TRADING
Players will now be able to trade items and gold directly to characters on other realms in their region. Previously this was limited to things like conjured items or eligible raid/dungeon loot, but all those cross-realm restrictions will now be lifted. Play with your friends and trade whatever you want to whoever you want!
Guess players might wanna be able to stash and save items for future use too huh? Like a Guild Bank , I mean Bank? Lol, we’ll see…
Glad they fixed your bank, Che. I doubt very much that the GB issues I had/have are fixed, since they cropped up so long ago and aren’t the same problem you were having. But the fact that something was fixed makes me feel good.
Actually, I have also heard rumors of this…BUT the reason being that you will no longer have a “cap” on how many guilds you can join. No one has gone on record on this yet, but I was able to funnel a question to several WoW content providers on YouTube (who shall remain nameless, so I continue to have a source). I asked “Are Communities going to replace Guilds?”. Generally, I got a “No”, with the caveat being that guilds will become more like communities, with a new feature being that you can join more than one guild. So “multi-GMs” in your lives could be a thing, IF you choose to belong to multiple guilds.
I’m waiting on a response for a timeline on these guild/community “changes”. They broke through this xpac and gave us factionless guilds, so I think it’s safe to say next xpac, maybe not on launch, we will see the “Multi-guild” thing. If not, then 12.0 seems reasonable.
Well…put it in the category of a verified rumor lol
There are apparently a large number of players who are bemoaning the inability to have a family guild (or a dead/dying guild they still have affection for) and still be able to participate in other, organized activities without pugging. It’s unclear how many players don’t want to leave these guilds, but apparently it’s quite a few. In addition, and this is something I’ve heard from my own guildies, they feel Communities are “glorified pug groups” and simply don’t want to join them. Mythic raiders also feel similarly, and prefer to be guilded.
While it may appear this is Blizz driven, in a way they look like they are trying to get these players engaged back in organized activities. And stay subscribed. Many players let their memberships lapse once they have nothing (or feel unable) to do. This is something I’m sure they would like to remedy.
I think I qualify as this. My guild is dead. I think my GM may actually BE dead. (Somehow I ended up as GM, so I’m holding the spot in case she really hasn’t died and comes back. But she had some serious health issues a few years ago, and then she vanished, so…)
I can’t possibly leave my guild for a lot of personal reasons. I do dungeons with my rl friends. I don’t know if I would join a second guild if that option were available, but it would definitely open up avenues for me that haven’t been available since my guild died.
This is certainly an interesting new turn… I have mixed feelings, I see where you’re coming from Brahmina, being in a sentimentally important but inactive situaion. At the same time, I feel like a lot of the reason I’m still here, still playing, still running a guild at all, IS that binary guild community - you’re either a member of the guild or you’re not. We have a casual normal raid that’s open to all sorts of friends of friends, guilds with whom we’re friendly, straight up pugs… but our main prog team (AOTC heroic, we’re not fancy) has an expectation of guild membership to be a regular team member. You have to choose us for us to choose you. I can’t help feeling like being able to join multiple guilds somehow dilutes that. Maybe I’m just being sentimental in a different way though.
Either way, if I split my GM role with someone else, join some extra guilds, or start a second one for funsies… having granular permissions would be super useful. Having the information we used to have in /groster would be super useful. And while we’re at it, having the roster cap lifted over 1000 would be darn useful as well!
Hope everyone’s doing well, I’m afraid I go through forum use phases, so I swing in and out here. Thanks for keeping the Thread that Shall Not Be Named alive!
