The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

Oh…that’s super weird. I delisted my guild (rather than letting it expire). And it seems to have properly removed me from the listings. I haven’t gotten any requests - the tab for viewing/approving requests is completely gone actually. It certainly sounds like a bug. But in the short term, maybe if you re-list and then delist it will stop pestering you?

I think it does expire. But it seems to be a really long time. I’ve had approved requests hanging out in my history and then disappearing. (I assume this means they do eventually time out??) The same thing happens when someone joins another guild. Hmmmmmm…maybe I should write down some dates and find out some detail. But if feels like maybe a month before they disappear.

I also want this.

I just thought of something. I get this alert too. Same as when someone applies to the guild. But It seems to be triggered when there are unread gchat messages. It goes away when I scroll through the chat log. Maybe it’s not a bug and it’s just your chat log? (I also use elvui, so it could be an addon display thing too.)

You know what would help clear this up? Some communication  Love you Blizzard, but your selective mutisim is a problem.

:+1: I’d give you an up vote, but my alter-ego already did (and I try to avoid the alt army syndrome of piling extra likes on a post).

If we could get any more info on planned guild improvements, it would be awesome. Ion said (a very long time ago now) that a fix for the permissions problem was in the works, but it would be nice to know if any other improvements are in the pipeline as well. Heck it would be nice to know if anyone there at Blizzard HQ even cares about guilds any more. There are times when I have my doubts.

Still broken… still no response from Blizz.

And now the asinine decision to link communities and guilds… means my newest officer disconnects if she opens the guild window…and because there is no granularity in control, I can’t see which of the officer permissions is triggering it.

I’m still hoping for a fix every time we have a longer than usual maintenance time. I know, it’ll probably be on the PTR before it ever goes live, but it seems possible that simply splitting the permissions won’t have to do that. Hey, look, if I want to be delusional, don’t burst my bubble, okay?

Not feeling it today. Not at all.

There are so many important things in life we take for granted. But still, we carry on and try to make some sort of sense of this chaotic thing called life.

Grahams and I are all but done, since Shadowlands isn’t really appealing to us and our kids are pressing us into a different direction.

But as long as I can, I’ll be coming back here to ask for those permissions to be reverted.

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t posted in months, I’d like to say it’s because “BfA is trash” but I quite enjoyed most of BfA. I took a break for a few months very recently however because the guild I’d been running since WoD had completely broken down. A guild of 100 active members, (all unique) no longer sees a single message in G-chat, ever. I couldn’t stand it, so I quit.

However, I am not back to re-iterate my “feedback”. I’ve already put my time in, you can read my opinions in one of my other posts, or maybe in the posts discussing my posts, there truly is a group of very passionate people within this thread.

I sort of feel foolish at this point, I genuinely believed that somebody wanted to do something to fix/revert these permissions mistakes, because of the first blue posts. I believed this issue was small, and overlooked and easy enough to fix. But here we sit.

I genuinely believe that a major contributor to the decrease in active guilds/events (or playerbase for that matter) is the gutting of guild permissions.

Maybe its my fault though. I spent too much time working on a rewarding system. I didn’t want money for it, only to give my group of friends a fun place to play, and achieve progress through rank, and make something for themselves.

Maybe you could learn a thing or two from this thread Blizz, because utilizing the old system, the GM’s and Officers in this chat managed to keep people logging in for YEARS.

Feedback: I’ll never forget the unnecessary mistakes made with these permissions changes, and I’ll never forgive how much of our time was wasted, your customers, who simply wish to be acknowledged with our feedback that was already deemed “Important” to our damn faces.

Same. I was going to log in and check on my guild, see if any new folks asked for invites, find out what guildies have been up to… and I just couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t stomach the thought of looking at the permissions and seeing that solid wall of “is officer” permissions.

Hopped on Brahmina, checked the missions table, ran an emissary, logged off. I’m going to watch some TwoSet Violin YouTube videos now. That’s right, Blizz, two Aussie violinists are much more entertaining and amusing than your game right now.

This makes me sad. The majority of my guilds have died, too. I don’t know the cause(s). I suspect they are many and as varied as the different guilds. But I also feel the changes to guild management (e.g. permissions) have not helped guilds thrive regardless of whatever issues made people move on.

I relate all too well with the above. In fact, I still believe Ion wasn’t lying when he told us they were aware of the problem and were working on a fix. There are times when I feel Blizzard’s work environment must be more dysfunctional than Dilbert’s company, because that’s the explanation I think of when I try to reconcile what Ion told us with what we’ve been given.

Now, I haven’t logged in yet today. It’s possible we’ve actually gotten a fix for this. But right now I’m busy watching out for the Publisher’s Clearing House Prize Patrol to come up my drive. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

No prize patrol and no permissions fix. Why do I feel the former was more likely than the latter (despite the 5 billion-to-one odds of winning the PCH sweeps)?

I accepted another applicant today, so at least the guild finder works (more or less). I was wishing I could create a rank that would allow my more trusted members access to their own guild bank tab, but I can’t properly balance that with the other permissions. I’m sure there must be a way, but it’s eluding me, and I never wanted guild management to be a major undertaking.

I just want to log in and have some fun. Apparently that’s asking for too much these days.

Pretend I’m a human rogue and not a cow:

"Got another new member, but no permissions.

sigh

Come on, Blizz, at least let us know if you’re working on guilds. The new finder makes me think you haven’t abandoned us entirely, but then I look at my permissions and think otherwise."

(I’m not giving up, but it would be easier to keep this thread alive if some of you other folks would post something after every couple of Fumel’s. The forums don’t allow more than three posts in a row from the same poster.)

My sister’s guild is experiencing something of a resurgence, instead of just me and one other, we have six. Tripled! I don’t know if she’s set anyone to be officer at all.

This continues to remain an issue.

Just for fun, it has been 563 days since this thread was posted. 563 days of “listening to our feedback” on a change that nobody asked for. Communities remain a feature that has an incredibly small use and attachment rate compared to guilds. Blizzard, please, just revert the changes already.

I just want granular permissions. You have close to 4,000 posts of feedback. You’ve done nothing. You do understand the numbers here, right? 4,000 posts over 563 days. For any other topic, this would have necessitated a developer post of some kind. We’ve simply had the cap raised here.

Admit you were wrong, Blizzard. Give us our permissions back. We won’t hold it against you- there’s nothing wrong with realizing a feature didn’t work out like you wanted. But this approach of status quo and simply going dark on things is unacceptable.

The way the game is being handled right now makes me feel like it is being sunset.

To be fair, Ion did say the change wasn’t intentional and they were working on a fix. True, he said that in a Q&A a long time ago, and it was then that he asked for more feedback as well. So… yeah.

I’ve been dealing with this permissions fiasco by making no one an officer. This works since my guild is small (22 members as of today) and it’s an alt guild. I truly don’t know how large, serious guilds are managing. Even Che, who claims his guild (and all the other guilds on his server) have no problems with the permissions, hasn’t explained how they’re actually dealing with it.

In any case, every guild is different. That’s precisely why a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. We need the ability to assign permissions as necessary for our individual guilds. I really can’t believe how long this has gone on without even an attempt at a fix.

I used to think Blizz would never do this. Now I’m not so sure anymore.

My apologies Fumel.

Real life has had me (us) very busy lately.

Among many other “life events” recently, we have moved to a new home.

I have not done that in couple of decades, and to say it was time consuming and very exhausting would be a huge understatement.

My personal and honestly heartfelt thanks to you for keeping this thread going. You do an amazing job coming up with something to post daily. (I do check in here at least once a day, usually more) I doubt I could find the words or the gumption to post nearly daily as you have done.

To Blizzard:

As promised I am still here Blizz and I have not forgotten.

While I admit I have been having a blast as my now limited play time allows on Classic Wow, my retail guild is still very much broken.

We were all promised a fix a LONG time ago.

Where is it?

Where’s that new and improved communication we were told Blizzard was so concerned about?

Would a few short sentences updating the situation be so hard and time consuming really?

Ex:

“While we are currently still working on a fix for guild permissions, it could unfortunately take us a while yet before things are rectified”

“That fix for guild permissions is right around the corner, we ask that you continue to be patient with us as we untangle the mess we inadvertently created”

“I know we said we were working on guild permissions, but you only think you want them. You don’t”

“About guild permissions. They are working as intended. Have a nice day”

It quite literally took me approx two minutes to think up and type those (slightly sarcastic) “examples” Blizz, and I am among the top ten terrible typists in the world, and have only had a half a cup of coffee this morning.

^Those are bones Blizzard.^

How about tossing us one of them?

Preferably “Please have patience, we’re working on it

Even one of the negative horribly disappointing ones would at least let us know where we as GMs stand so we could stop wasting time hoping and waiting for something you have no intention of actually fixing.

^I like this one best. Though, “You should be seeing the fix on the PTR next week and live shortly thereafter,” would be even better.

I wasn’t meaning to chastise anyone for not posting. It was more of a call for volunteers.

I am more than familiar with moving (born military, married military) and if I never move again, it’ll be too soon. I hope you get settled into your new home and enjoy it for decades to come.

Hey all, as I’m pretty passionate about this issue, I figured i’d give Fumel a hand in being heard again, and more often :stuck_out_tongue: Sorry I dissapeared.

When I posted last I hadn’t even heard about the new guild finder/recruitment feature. That’s really exciting, and a good change, but doesn’t it make you feel a little forgotten? That a re-vamp like that was possible, whilst our issue hasn’t even recieved a comment in months?

This has ALWAYS been my thoughts exactly. I really tried to give communities their fair shake but they simply didn’t take off or something.

I feel like, apart from all of us giving our feedback/annoyance (admittedly), in this thread, the only thing left to do is walk some important dude with a suit, into Blizz’s offices and say some really obvious things to them, like:

“Everybody has a memory with their guild, and the majority of players feel ATTACHED to their “guildies”. Perhaps, even to the point that they play the game in the first place, just to play with their friends, in their guild. Communities were trying to create something that already existed in WoW, being guilds: and that feature has been forced to take a back seat, for a feature that far fewer people use. The only real question, is why haven’t the granular permissions been reverted yet? Save guilds, so they can save you.”

… OR SOMETHING

Hello everyone,

I’m checking in again to make sure my voice is heard. Everyone contributing to this discussion needs to keep doing so.

As of now, I still haven’t assigned anyone in our guild with the “Is Officer” check box since there are certain permissions I will not assign, regardless of rank. As a result, nobody in the guild has access to any of those eight privileges since they’re all lumped together in a one-size-fits-all definition of “an officer,” as defined by someone at Blizzard. I’ve been playing WoW since March of 2005, raiding since Molten Core of 2005, and leading our guild as guild master since TBC in 2007. I know our guild and how to effectively manage it, not some stranger who knows nothing about us.

Please give us the individual permission customization we had prior to patch 8.0. That’s all I’m asking for.

For further recommendations to help guild management, add a complete log/record system for the guild bank so the guild master can keep track of cumulative records on gold deposits, gold repairs, gold withdraws, item deposits, and item withdraws. If WoW developers can create and maintain a statistics tab with all kinds of totally useless information for my character’s history, they can add a feature that lets me keep track of guild bank records. That would actually help guilds and their leaders manage things like donations rather than have to make Google sheets and such.

Please address this problem. This thread began on July 17, 2018. We’re now at February 3, 2020. That’s absolutely absurd.

Many other recommendations to help guilds have already been provided in this thread. This information can be gleaned from some eager interns and would make a good project. You have what you need, and the “discussion” has already occurred. Read it, and pass the information along to the next group of people who need to make the corrections. Failure to do so will just further the stereotypes of poor communication and the apparent growing disregard for the gaming and guild community of WoW… which is sad. This is a microcosm of much larger problems occurring with the game… and company.

I will continue to check in here until the change is made. Everyone else needs to do so, too.

I think this was the number one reason for WoW’s extreme popularity back in the day. Not how great this or that expansion was, but how much people interacted with their friends and guildies. That interaction was what made said expansion(s) great, not the game itself (though I’m not saying the game was bad in any way).

Playing with my friends is one thing that’s kept me going. I made my guild as a sort of home for those who want some interaction without any pressure to live up to anyone’s “standards.” Just a place for folks to hang out, level alts, and enjoy themselves.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time right now to do anything with the guild, and without granular permissions, I’m not comfortable handing all the officer duties to people I don’t really know well (yet). So all that really goes on is people log in and play a bit before logging off. No guild events or anything to keep folks interested after they’ve done their dailies.

The worst part about this is I don’t think my guild is the only one in this position. That’s a really bad thing for the health of this game.

If the Knicks can fire Steve Mills, then Blizzard, you can fix the dang permissions!
