The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

Well…

No changes. No surprise.

Is it bad that I’m not particularly upset? I mean, I would have been ecstatic if they had fixed the permissions, but… this is the outcome I was actually expecting. And it is definitely sad that Blizzard has met my expectations. :disappointed:

I came home to find out that my son had mined 10k stone on Conan Exiles and had already started brick production without me asking him to, thus giving us time to go raid some nearby camps.

And then I saw Blizz still hasn’t fixed permissions, thus adding to my frustration.

One of these parties is encouraging me to play a specific game. The other is not.

C’mon with this Bliz…if you won’t or can’t do it, just tell us now.

I doubt they’ll ever admit either. They’ll just string us along as usual.

However, I’m not giving up. I think they’ll have a fix by the shadowlands pre-patch. Well, I’m not putting money on it. But still, they’ve had plenty of time to figure out what they need to do to fix it, so it shouldn’t take any longer than that (and I really hope it’ll be sooner).

Man, I thought this thread was long gone.

Reading these last dozen or so posts… It’s like a guy who’s girl has left him and he’s sitting at home on a Saturday night muttering to himself “she’ll come back, she’ll come back!” when she’s been gone for years.

Might just be time to move on.

Nope. I swore earlier in the thread that I’m going to keep posting until they either fix the permissions or close the thread. Ion said they recognized the problem and were working on a fix. I’m not letting him off the hook.

It’s okay if you want to give them a pass on this, but don’t criticize those of us who are holding them to their word.

And maybe you shouldn’t view my post through the lens of some form of hostility when my post wasn’t intended to be that way.

Well… I wasn’t meaning to sound hostile. But you did imply I’m a guy who won’t give up on a girl who left years ago, and that sounds like criticism to me. :woman_shrugging:

I feel more like she said she was coming back, so I haven’t given up. Except… I’m a married woman, so that doesn’t work so well, either…

Ah, well, it’s late. You have a good one. I’m going to bed.

(Fix the permissions, Blizz.)

Well I wasn’t trying to imply that anyone was a loser or something. It was just the sad emotion I kept seeing in everyone’s posts, including yours.

There was no judgment. Good night.

My guild is doing okay. Two members have left for more active pastures. Others have come in.

I would love to have a more active guild, but I haven’t time to manage one on my own. Separate permissions would go a long way toward delegating responsibilities and maybe becoming more than an alt guild.

I’m still hoping that Ion wasn’t lying, and we will be getting granular permissions back before much longer.

Still hoping and still posting. It was disappointing, but not surprising, that we got nothing with the patch. I expect any changes will have to show up on the PTR first like the guild finder did. But maybe not. I don’t recall that losing our granular permissions showed up in the PTR before they went live with the BfA prepatch.

Maybe they’ll be fixed with the Shadowlands prepatch… I don’t really want to wait that long, but if it means actually getting the permissions fixed at last, I’ll accept it.

Everyone seems to be playing the new patch and not worrying about guilds. My own guild has been dead so long, I suppose it doesn’t matter for my guild if the permissions are fixed or not. And I mean dead-dead. I don’t think the GM has been on in three years.

I have the ability to take over, but whatever for? I feel right now like guilds are pointless, and if Blizz’s ultimate goal is to destroy guilds, that goal is gradually being met. That’s not good though, because playing with friends is what has kept WoW going for fifteen years.

I honestly hope that a major guild revamp is in the works. New perks, special quests, guild halls, the works. And of course, granular permissions. Guilds and WoW are dependent on each other, and the game can’t thrive without guilds. Please, help guilds, and you help WoW.

Fix permissions! Or at least let one of the few community managers you guys didn’t fire… say SOMETHING about this!

I feel like the situation with the guild permissions is a symptom of what’s wrong with WoW in general these days. It seems like there’s far less interest on Blizzard’s part in putting out the best game possible. It feels more like they’re putting out whatever they can get by with while not losing too many subscriptions. I also feel like much (if not most) of the vitriol on the forums is coming from players who sense the same thing.

We don’t want to hate the company that puts out our favorite video game, and we certainly don’t want to hate the individuals who work on it, but this shoddy workmanship and lack of communication is extremely frustrating. I know that ranting solves nothing, but it’s the only tool we’ve been given.

Fix the permissions, Blizz.

I don’t hate Blizzard at all. I see them as a once-good friend who decided that hanging out with all the rich snobs would be better than playing D&D with me and the crew. And when he does show up to play, it has to be his way, and any suggestions on how to make the game more fun are summarily dismissed. Back in the day, we had fun just playing with the old rules (broken as they were) but his new rich pals kept giving him suggestions to streamline and make things more accessible but all it does is lead to more pointless random encounters, long treks without any significant story progress, and deus ex machina villains that make 2/3rds of our campaign progress absolutely pointless. What’s even dumber is that he has a cousin who DOES play by all the old rules and a pretty good amount of people clearly enjoy it, but he’s all “Nah, that’s just for people who like that sort of thing. It won’t work in today’s ruleset”. Meanwhile I’m sitting here with my max level Fighter just begging him to revert one part of the rules and fix the permissions!

I’m sorry to say there’s no real changes to the guild UI. Is anyone else here using the Guild Roster Manager Addon to maintain their roster? I feel like a lot of the interface being implemented here should have been mainstreamed. The biggest asset to this is where you can connect players by their alts. But you have to input this info manually. With 700+ list of characters this is utterly exhausting.

Back after a year away, and this thread is still running??

This would be an awesome thing to add to WoW’s standard guild UI. I really like the guild finder revamp they recently launched, so we know WoW’s devs have the ability to make things better for guilds.

This is just one of the many improvements mentioned throughout this thread. Sure, we want the permissions fixed, but there is so much more that could be done. When I’m feeling optimistic, I imagine that the reason this fix has been taking so long is that they’re also trying to implement some of these other ideas.

If I have any say, this thread will keep going until we get our permissions fixed or Blizz shuts it down. Obviously, I prefer the former option.

Got another member today. There are several whose applications I’ve accepted but who haven’t joined or declined. This doesn’t bother me since my guild is an alt guild. If people don’t log in for weeks, it’s okay. I figure they’re focusing on their main. But I think this could be a problem for more active guilds. I haven’t checked to see if there’s a way to rescind an invitation to join.

Not being able to assign permissions as needed is the big problem though. I hope a fix is coming in soon because really don’t want to wait until Shadowlands for this.

For me, it’s incredibly frustrating.
I have not found a way to rescind, it would be nice if we could. If someone can’t be bothered in a week or two to accept or decline, then that’s not someone I want in my guild.
I also don’t care for how long the list of applicants sticks around after they’ve joined or declined/joined a different guild. Once it’s done, I don’t need to see it. Wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for that dumb little yellow notification having to be there randomly even when nothing has changed. I’m admittedly very easily annoyed, it’s not really a “problem” but it gets under my skin.
Also with the new guild finder, after a guild listing has expired, why is it still there? I’ve let mine expire for the time being, because reasons, and yet I still keep having people applying. When it expires, one would think it should logically take you off of the recruiting guilds list.

Anyway.
Still clinging desperately to a thread of hope for fixed permissions. And maybe some of the kinks worked out of the new guild finder.

While I definitely like the new finder, I agree that it does have a few “kinks.” I didn’t realize that the listing doesn’t expire when it supposedly says it has. And as I mentioned above, I can see not being able to rescind invitations after a reasonable time being a definite issue for guilds that work differently from mine.

At the very least, invitations to join should expire in a certain amount of time, say, two weeks. For all we know, that might have been Blizzard’s intention. Since the guild listings don’t apparently expire like they’re supposed to, it’s easy to think perhaps the invitations are supposed to expire, but aren’t doing so.

I haven’t had this issue. When I get a notification, it’s always because someone has asked to join. Perhaps this is because there’s so little activity in my guild.

In any case, my main beef is with the permissions. We need these fixed, preferably well before Shadowlands launches.
