Apparently I can keep posting as long as I don’t mention the New York Jet’s short-lived successes.
But seriously…they went on a friggin’ win-streak…I gotta say something when that happens.

Happy new year everyone!
Let’s hope this is the year (month? week?) our permissions get fixed!
Well…
No new permission fix. No surprise. Despite me not being able to reward guildies by parsing out permissions, I have to confess this issue doesn’t really affect my guild much. That’s because it’s only an alt guild.
I don’t think any of my guild members plan to raid or do mythics. They just joined for the perks–which is exactly how I’ve advertised the guild in the finder. Even so, they’ve been amazingly helpful and generous. The bank has funds and so much donated stuff that I had to open another tab.
My guild is three times the size it was before the new finder launched, but it’s still very manageable. I truly feel for the GMs of large guilds who need to divvy up their duties between a handful of officers. I hope Blizzard comes through with a fix soon. It’s going on a year and a half now. Are we really going to have to wait for Shadowlands to launch before this is fixed?
I’m very grateful that we still have granular control over the “Invite Member” permission. There was some drama in my guild, and having granular control over invites has helped me to prevent more problems from coming up.
Someone that I have been watching closely as a potential problem for quite some time crossed a line, and I took the opportunity to remove them from the guild. Their response has been…over the top toxic, which is unfortunately exactly what I anticipated.
When I kicked this person, I also removed invites from most of the guild ranks, because I suspected that this person may try to get back in and cause problems. (I normally have invites available to everyone so people can feel free to add their friends/family/alts etc.) One of my officers also locked down the guild’s Discord server so this person cannot create a new account and cause problems there.
But the reaction that has reached us made me very happy that we took the precautions that we did. This person posted accusations of criminal behavior on all of our guild videos on YouTube. I received a very toxic whisper in game, and one of my officers received a letter in game with similar content. Both of those private messages contained phrasing that could be interpreted as real life threats. Both messages were reported, and this person is now on our ignore lists.
We’ve so far been successful at keeping retaliation out of Discord and in game guild channels. If I had full granular control over all permissions, I would have also temporarily revoked the ability for officers to list us in the guild finder and invite applicants from the guild finder. (I had recently de-listed us anyway, or I would have temporarily de-listed us to avoid the risk of inadvertently re-inviting this person’s alt.)
The ability to appropriately respond to a wide variety of situations is one of the big reasons why I want permissions to be fully granular. Having granular access to “Invite Member” was very helpful. But I would have felt better if there wasn’t a chance (however small) that one of my officers could have missed the message from me about this situation, and listed us and invited this person back into the guild. I don’t want to strip my officers of all their permissions, but I also really don’t want this person to get back in and fill guild chat with all sorts of gross messages. It would also be nice to be able to account ban people like this.
This is a much needed guild ability for sure.
I like to think that maybe Blizz is working on doing a little more than simply giving us granular permissions again. Things like account-wide bans and other oft-repeated suggestions in this thread.
I’m sorry you had such drama in your guild, Takoda. I hope the measures you took are enough.
Thanks! It’s working so far at least.
I really hope so! I think Blizzard did a good job with the guild finder. It would be nice if that continues and we get more nice things for guilds over the next few patches.
Another new member in my guild. The new guild finder is definitely a win.
I really hope the delay in fixing the permissions has been because they’re working on more awesome guild improvements that they can launch together.
I keep hoping we’ll see a fix for the next patch, but if it’s not on the PTR (and no one has said it is) then it’s probably not incoming.
While I’m looking forward to next week, it’s kind of depressing to think that something we’ve been told is being worked on (a fix) still hasn’t made it into the game.
It’s a “containment thread” so, forever? Just be glad it’s still in GD and hasn’t been relegated to some other unused forum category, where many good threads have gone to die.
At least you don’t have to deal with Stormtusk’s incessant whining about “Pallies: OP and here’s why!”.
Those used to dominate our guild chats…
Oh and fix the permissions!
This is coming from the guy who started the “Yrel is HAWT” discussion?
Bro, my points are valid and gameplay related. Yours came off like some kpop fanboi…
And since I’ve been dragged back in, please fix the permissions!
Lol.
Be careful there, my friend. Some casual thread readers might accuse you of trying to pull something sneaky.
Oh yeah, almost forgot:
^What he/they said.
Dude what are you talking about, you joined the discussion which then spiraled into that stupid FMK - Jaina, Sylvanas, Yrel that went on for WAY TOO LONG.
Blizzard, fix the permissions so I can create a special rank for my bro. Believe me, he’s gonna love it. It’ll be YUGE. Really, just the best rank. The very best.
My guild has added yet another member.
I hope soon we can celebrate expanded guild controls.
I’d love to have multiple layers of leadership for my guild, with various permissions…oh, right. Can’t do that. It’s all officer permissions or nothing.
Blizzard, I’m really tired of explaining to people in my guild why I can’t customize permissions for ranks. Can you please give guild leaders some amount of agency back? You’ve removed master loot as an option for guild raiding, you’ve removed our granular guild permissions, and our forums were taken years ago. Can we please at least have the permissions back?
The new in game guild finder is fantastic - I sure hope we get more wonderful expressions of love for guilds in the future!
Man do I have some prime real estate I would love to sell you!
Please understand, I keep repeating what he told us in case he thinks we’ll just forget. I’m going to continue reminding him that he said the change was a problem and that they’re working on a fix. I’m going to hold him to his word. It’s a cop-out to let him off the hook by saying he was lying and never intended to fix anything.
We need granular permissions so that guild masters can run their guilds in a way that works for them. Until we get that fix (or Blizz closes this thread), I’m going to keep posting and holding Ion accountable.
Communities went down today, scaring everyone with an alert that the guild was destroyed, maybe a fix for permissions is being worked on?
maybe a fix for permissions is being worked on?
Dare we hope?
It does make sense that any possible fix might interfere with communities, since it was the communities feature that broke the guild permissions in the first place. I’ve got zero problems with communities (even though I don’t use them). I think they and guilds can coexist–and even compliment each other. But a community isn’t a guild. We need our guild permissions fixed.

You are much more optimistic than I. Personally I feel like this is their chance to push folks into using other mediums of connecting so they can pull the plug on guilds.
