This is where I’m sitting as well. There are a number of things about Shadowlands that I really don’t want or care for (level squish being the number one). I am more than halfway over the fence and out the door regarding continuing with WoW at this point.
If there had been anything at all mentioned about guilds, they would have caught my interest. The permissions fix is definitely my priority, but any hint that the devs actually care about guilds and understand the role of guilds in WoW would be better than the deafening silence we’ve incurred thus far.
Even if the permissions hadn’t been borked, it’s past time for guilds to get much needed improvements. This thread is chock full of great ideas for guilds. The feedback is done. Now tell us what you’re going to do with it, Blizz!
Just a quick mention that my guild has another new member! Well, it’s an alt of our newest member, but still, another name on the roster.
This really makes me wish guilds were in a better state. I’d love to grow my guild and make it into a group where members can actually pursue higher goals in the game. I can’t do that without help though, and without granular permissions, I can’t let complete strangers take over some of my duties for me. Without some love from Blizz, I’m at an impasse. /sigh
When I told my guild about the guild finder buttons being removed, they didn’t quite know how to respond because I was laughing hysterically. It was either that, or burst into tears. So.
ahem
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Right. Now that’s out of the way.
I have to admit this new expansion announcement has me feeling pretty meh. I’ve definitely crossed over into I’ll-believe-it-when-I-see-it territory. Until then, I’ll assume Blizzard is working on the new garrisons and the worst iteration of classes and social systems we’ve seen so far.
My raid leader told me he’s out if Blizzard doesn’t fix classes. And he’s a game designer, so the bar for “fixed” is pretty high. He said that he just can’t do another expansion with broken classes. I don’t really blame him. But without him, my guild will die, or at least fade significantly.
Also on our priority list is fixing flex raids to actually scale properly instead of being somewhere between “significantly more difficult” to “completely impossible” with 10-12 players. It’s really really stupid to have a game mode for 10-30 players if it can’t be completed with that full range of players. (I’m looking at you Zaq, and your insistence on fearing three players at a time. That’s 30% of a 10 man raid. It may be mathematically possible on 10 man, but its all down to RNG luck, not skill. Not my idea of a good time.)
We typically have enough players to avoid the 10 man problem. But lately, we’ve been having attendance issues, and it’s become painfully clear just how much more difficult the raids are as a 10-12 group.
Maybe I should recruit. Where’s the UI? Oh. Right.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
ahem
And really. Do I need to say it again? Fix the darn permissions already. And I REALLY want an explanation for the guild finder. I would say that I’m unimpressed. But that is fantastically understating things.
it explains that the guild finder is being reworked, and will be active soon.
the only thing from that list which hasn’t become active at this point, is the guild finder… so it’s not exactly a list of “things which aren’t active yet”.
It’s a list of things which weren’t active when the patch went live.
Wait…I just got my own mini-Deathwing to ride around, so obviously the Anniversary event is live. (Those raids were a hoot–people couldn’t remember the mechanics, Ragnaros is bugged, and it was a blast anyway.)
Right. So it’s now out of date as well. Hence, explanation needed. It would be nice to know WHY it wasn’t in the patch. Were there unexpected technical issues? Was it a time constraint thing? Was it something else entirely? Also, why did they remove the old UI buttons before adding in the new guild finder? We don’t know because they didn’t offer an explanation.
All they offered was a list of things that they intended to add to the game soon. Of that list, the guild finder is the only one missing. Hence, we need an explanation.
I read it. You totally confuse me when you list things that are live and say they aren’t available yet.
But I don’t need patch notes to tell me the guild finder revamp isn’t ready yet. My only complaint is they shouldn’t have removed the old one before the new one was ready.
The whole guild control system just seems terrible. I just wanted to adjust repairs and withdrawals. Google didn’t help, I posted a thread and got no help on how to do it. Am I bugged? I don’t know. Why change something that was functional when so much is broken?
Sorry, I didn’t see your other thread or I would have helped there. But yes. The current system is just generally awful. But you can adjust repairs and withdrawls, but it’s a bit convoluted.
For Repairs:
Go to the “Roster” tab and click on “Guild Settings.” Then go to the dropdown menu at the top and select “Rank permissions.” Repair amount is at the bottom of the window. If you want people to ONLY have access to repair, you check the repair box, and do not select “Withdraw gold” as the two settings share a pool. Change ranks by selecting the other dropdown menu at the top. Each rank needs to be set up individually.
For withdrawls:
Go to the “Roster” tab and click on “Guild Settings.” Then go to the dropdown menu at the top and select “Bank Tab Permissions.” You can select the rank in the same location as repairs. Each rank and tab will need to be set up individually.
Well, one reason to doubt it is that Blizz doesn’t always do what they say they’re going to do. I certainly don’t doubt that they want to have it running soon. But technical things don’t always work out like you want them to.
I don’t feel they need to explain why the new guild finder isn’t working–especially since I’m sure it’s because of trying to integrate it with communities. I do wonder why they removed the button we had, since the new finder isn’t live yet, but maybe that wasn’t intentional.
My hope is that whatever caused the finder to malfunction is related to why we don’t have granular permissions, and that fixing the former will help them fix the latter.
This is exactly why I’d like to know what happened. Technical issues can take some time to resolve. If that happened, then maybe we’ll be stuck on the guild finder for just as long as we’ve been stuck without permissions. But if it was just that the dev working on it ran out of time, then we’d be able to reasonably expect that the new guild finder would be implemented as soon as they are able to finish it.
“Always ask why” is a personal mantra of mine. (My parents tell me I was a very annoying child.) The “whys” of things can bring to light so much, without having to confine a situation into a box. Other people aren’t quite as curious about “whys” as I am, and that’s fine. It’s part of what makes me who I am.
Based on their history, I don’t expect Blizzard will actually explain why. They never do, but it would be very nice if they did. It would allow us to have a glimpse into what to expect without needing Blizzard to make a promise like “The guild finder will be out on .”
In a nutshell, a technical issue means we can reasonably assume the guild finder will be out eventually, but maybe not under the conventional definition of “soon.” If the devs ran out of time, then we can reasonably assume that the guild finder will be out much closer to the conventional definition of “soon.” If there’s another reason entirely, then we’d need to know what that reason is so we can assess what reasonable conclusions can be drawn from it.
If you have a good understanding of “why,” (In this case, why the guild finder was delayed.) then inductive reasoning has a high probability of reaching an accurate conclusion (In this case, it would be possible to roughly estimate when we could expect the guild finder to go live.). Yes, yes. I’m a nerd. I know.
Given that the 8.2.5 update notes were published on September 17 (nearly two months ago), it is starting to look like this is not going to fall within the conventional definition of “soon.” Unfortunately, this increases the probability that they ran into technical issues with the guild finder. If they would actually communicate with us, then we’d have a better understanding of what to expect instead of being forced to rely on speculation and assumptions.
See, I’m just not really with you here. I mean, you’re allowed to ask “why”, of course. But I don’t see that knowing the reason makes any difference. There’s no purpose in making any “reasonable conclusions” about it because we’re not in a position to conclude anything, or do anything about whatever we conclude.
Sure, it would be great if Blizz said, “Hey guys, we’ve run into a bit of a snafu with the guild finder, but we’ll be getting it up and running asap.” That doesn’t really give us any more information than posting that it will be coming “later” in the expansion though, which is what they actually did.
Speaking of conclusions, since the new finder was on the PTR, it’s obviously a technical problem rather than someone ran out of time. We’re just going to have to wait is all. At least they didn’t cancel it.
That’s fine. Frankly, most people don’t follow me into inductive reasoning land. I get a lot of glazed over eyes and confused looks. It’s wibbly and wobbly and at the end of the day, it leads only to probabilities rather than concrete conclusions. Most people are much more comfortable with deductive reasoning.
The point is that I see value in it, and it is useful to me. Frankly, I use it all the time. Usually to confuse my boss.
