467 days later. As an ex-guild leader I sometimes miss the game, my guild, and what came with it… then I remember changes like this, I remember the streamlining of everything, and I remember the destruction of server communities and why I made the decision to end it.
Nothing positive has really changed, Blizzard still hasn’t given any reason for players to actually be an active and good-standing member of a guild unless they’re a progression mythic raider.
I just thought it might be fun to stop by and see if anything changed, I’m not surprised.
Well, after several back-and-forth letters through the in-game mail system (taking as many days), I was able to connect online and invite my newest recruit. Proof that the old guild finder UI still works–and is absolutely terrible.
My newest guild member is a perfect fit–someone who mostly solos and really just wants the guild perks. No worries about the lack of permissions! The new guy can use the bank tab, but there’s nothing in there but low-level cooking mats and a couple of useless gems.
Somehow I feel this is some sort of metaphor related to the state of guilds these days…
I’ve recruited 10 players in the last 20 days simply by using the tried and true methods from day one: Tell people what you’re about; tell them what you’ve done; tell them how joining will make their game experience better. Have a presence in trade, on your server forums, and in wowprogress. com
This requires a consistent presence in the game however…as well as being able to point out that you have, can, and will be able to accomplish more to fill people’s needs in the future. If you would like me to post my recruitment spam here, I’m more than willing. Somehow I feel it would be instructive.
It also helps if you can make recruits believe you have a positive outlook about the game. The proof of that positivity is in the things your guild has actually accomplished together in the game, imho.
Thank you, but I don’t think it’s necessary. We’ve all seen the type of recruitments you’re speaking of and could readily copy them if need be. What we do need is a solution for other types of guilds. Because, believe it or not, your way of playing the game is not the only way.
Blizzard did come up with an excellent recruitment UI, which was tested on the PTR and seemed to work fine. Why it didn’t go live in the last patch is unknown. Perhaps 8.3 will bring it to fruition.
Meanwhile, Blizz, those of us not in Che’s guild still would like granular permissions. Thank you.
This is how it was done before the recruitment feature was added, and how it’s now done in Classic.
Unless someone happens to be one of the folks that want Retail reverted to be more like Classic, this is no longer acceptable in the Retail environment beyond a temporary stopgap. Especially since Retail already had (sorta has) a working (outdated though it is) guild recruitment feature, and another new and updated one was apparently in the works.
Blizzard.
There’s now at least two issues that need addressing.
Guild permissions, and guild recruitment.
How about showing the posters here some of that fabled “new and improved” communication…?
I specifically addressed the concerns you posted. Does everything I say or every idea I have, have to be immediately burned and trolled? No.
If you have concerns about the Guild Recruitment stuff from PTR, is that really my fault it’s not in the game? No.
If you simply say the following words, I will stop posting here: Che don’t ever post here again.
Bam, I will be done with you all, and that’s that. Being an OP here doesn’t matter a bit to me considering there’s basically 3 people posting here. You want one less person? Say the word.
Don’t let Che bother you. He has his own little view of the world and can’t help acting like he’s some kind of benevolent mentor to us peons. Acknowledging that a great number of players aren’t happy with the state of guilds goes against his beliefs.
Though I’m not expecting to hear anything about guilds (permissions, recruitment, perks, etc.) during Blizzcon, I can’t help but hope they’ll toss us a crumb sometime. Fingers are crossed.
I suppose I should be checking to see if I’ve gotten any more bites on my ad in the guild finder, but I’m sort of hoping not. I don’t really want to grow my guild without granular permissions that I can use to reward loyal members.
Still hoping for good news from Blizz. I know, I’m silly to be so optimistic, but it makes me feel better than being a pessimist.
I would love it if the permissions could haunt Blizzard’s HQ. How would they manifest? Like gremlins, screwing up the hardware? Like a bot or a virus, playing havoc with software? Like a pointy-haired-boss, driving employees insane? Inquiring minds want to know!
The steadfast Brahminians of Aychesseff, whose ever present optimism provides hope and warmth for the hardiest denizens of the guild who refuse to die
The mysterious Fumeliars. Archivists and seekers of legend, this faction delves deep into the annals of lore to find only the best of ways to improve the world. Their questline is reported as “something unique”.
The cunning Venjicytes, who constantly find ways to twist words and ideas into songs of chaos in hopes of bringing about an eternally rising sun.
The warlike Druunahrs, who forge the guild armies that serve as the first line of defense against those who would impose unfair laws and honor those who seek power and glory in battle with an oath of blood.
I guess we don’t have to feel too bad about not getting any of our guild questions answered. From what I understand, almost none of the questions from the site were answered, and only a handful from the folks that were there in person. Not an informative Q&A at all (based on what I heard).
So, we’ll ask again:
Blizz, will there be any improvements for guilds–especially regarding permissions–or is this topic deader than a deceased undead DK? Truly, my decision to play Shadowlands hinges on the answer to this.
I thought the guild leader permissions were supposed to be rolled back at some point? And still no word? If they would have announced some love for guilds, I’d be pre ordering right now.
I haven’t been posting because I’m not the GM, my sister who doesn’t play is, but I did suggest she check out whether the permissions are a problem. Of the two guildies who do still play, I’m likely to be the only one she has to worry about.
