The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

I think they fired anyone that cared about guild controls back in February. My expectations of seeing any improvements have been snuffed out. This really feels like we are beating a dead horse here. My guild is one of the handfuls of surviving and even thriving guilds on our realm, though we are not pursuing Mythic content currently so I am sure Blizz sees that as a bunch of casual plebs not worth listening to.

thanks for the information I been looking all over and that sucks trying. not to sound stupid here so recruiting is gone so how do you build your guild that is what I was in progress of doing not throwing add out in other player faces just rude

Who was fired that cared about guild controls? I don’t recall hearing about this.

Right at this moment, it seems like “throwing an ad out in other player’s faces” is about the only way to recruit. You can make a post on your realm forum and the guild recruitment forum, but I don’t know how effective those methods are.

We can all hope that this situation doesn’t last much longer.

If you’re on Facebook, there’s a closed group for Guild and Raid leadership. Lots of leaders there ready to help each other out. Just search for The Pub, if you’re interested.

This is good info. Too bad folks have to go to other sites for help with their guilds.

This recruitment fiasco is on par with the permissions–except the tab didn’t just vanish without warning. A new UI was on the PTR. It makes no sense that the old one would just vanish without the new one taking its place, so I have to assume it’s a bug.

I haven’t reported it as such though, mostly because I’ve been assuming Blizz is quite aware that we have no recruitment tab at all now. But maybe reporting the bug is what we all should be doing.

So, I was doing my daily check of the permissions and guild controls. I found it ironically amusing that two of the permissions lumped under “is officer” are about using the guild recruiting tab.

I also took a look at the old guild roster UI and saw the recruiting tab is still there–but it doesn’t let you list a guild. At least, it didn’t let me list mine, and as the GM, I would think I have the appropriate permissions.

I’m still assuming this is a bug, but only because of the new UI on the PTR. Otherwise, I might think it was like the permissions–which many of us thought were a bug at first but it turned out to be a direct result of the communities feature.

The new UI also had a communities search and recruitment, so I have to wonder if that has anything to do with it not going live. It’s like the communities are poison to any feature they touch.

Just fix the permissions, Blizz. Yeah, it would be nice if the new recruiting UI would make it live, and we’d love to have all the guild improvements we’ve been listing here. But granular permissions are our top priority. Still.

I’ve had better success watching both the recruitment forum and reddit’s /r/wowguilds and responding directly to people who seem like they would be a good fit for our guild than I have posting an advert on those forums. There is also a guild recruitment discord, though I think it’s more focused on progression oriented guilds than community oriented ones, I didn’t find it terrifically useful for me, but it might be for you!

UPDATE

I tried it again and found I could list my guild on the old tab–but I don’t think anyone uses it, so I’m not expecting any responses. For anyone who doesn’t know, you can access the old guild roster by typing /groster in chat.

Maybe when Blizz does another maintenance, the new UI that was on the PTR will make it to live. Fingers crossed!

And yeah, still want granular permissions, Blizz.

this is actual crap having to use /guildroster just so i can recruit is bs. whatever dev thought this was a good idea needs to be demoted to janitor

Heh. Our guild has had to use /groster since the introduction of communities because we can’t promote/demote with the community interface. It just simply doesn’t work and it’s incredibly annoying.
