There have been so many awesome ideas posted in this thread, I’d almost be disappointed if all we got were the granular permissions back.
I’m looking forward to the improvements to the guild finder that are coming up, even though I’m not planning any recruiting before we get the permissions fixed. I’m just super happy something’s being done about the finder at long last.
In addition to the permissions, I’d like to see some more guild perks. Many players don’t see a reason to join a guild if they don’t do a lot of end-game content, so putting in some of the perks suggested throughout this thread would be terrific.
After separating the permissions, I’d really like some of the guild hall ideas mentioned in this thread.
I’d love a guild hall where meetings can take place. I’d like to see special guild vendors that you earn through various guild achieves. My vision for guild halls is similar to the class halls from legion, but of course aimed more toward guilds.
That would be cool. I’m also all for guild fishing. I know it sounds super boring. But imagine how cool it would be to just relax at the guild pond, do a little fishing, chat with some guildies.
There could even be a guild-specific little fishing tournament, and the chest at the end could contain SPARE crates…because I need about 12 million of those things for feasts…
I love fishing. Except in Mechagon. I still haven’t caught the solarsprocket barbel I need to get the goggles.
But I’m all for a guild fishing pond. They could even let us stock it ourselves by catching fish out in the world with some sort of special guild net that lets us put them in our pond. Once you stock a specific type of fish, they’ll spawn pools in your guild pond (you only have to catch it once to stock it).
For me, fishing was something that I didn’t mind doing, but I also didn’t particularly like it either. It was just something that I needed to do to collect mats for the guild.
But after they added midnight salmon, I started fishing late at night, and oh my gosh is it a great way to end the day. I’ve continued the late night fishing in classic as a way to farm a bit of gold.
My favorite, though, is when I’m mindlessly fishing late at night and chatting in discord or gchat with others. It’s soooo relaxing and fun in a “I’m not really awake anymore” way.
I want to continue the discussion about guild halls (in addition to getting the permissions separated). Here is a post I made in another thread, which I quoted in this one a few months ago:
I do think that opening up a guild hall should be an achieve rather than just spending some gold. The above idea lets people do a variety of things and allows every member to contribute to opening the hall, not just the mythic raiders.
As we’ve seen over and over in this thread, many guild masters used the separated guild permissions to reward players who showed themselves to be trustworthy and responsible members of the guild. Guild halls and their rewards could be an expansion on this concept.
I’m imagining guild hall vendors who sell various flasks/feasts/bags/etc. I see these vendors being earned by the guild, possibly through professions achieves. Certain guild permissions could allow access to the vendors, similar to banking permissions now. This is just one way permissions and guild halls could compliment each other.
I’ve gotten myself lost. I keep finding so many great posts throughout this thread that I can’t keep track of which ones I’ve quoted and which ones I haven’t.
Blizzard comes up with a new recruit-a-friend promotion to try to bolster subs. That’s great. I hope it works. But what’s the point of bringing friends to the game if they can’t find a decently functioning guild?
Now, I can’t blame all WoW’s problems on the guild permissions. Still, it seems to me that guilds are horribly broken. You either have guilds that are focused on end game, or guilds that exist for banking privileges. There don’t seem to be many active guilds that exist just for friendship and helping each other out.
That’s the sort of guild all of mine were. I have lots of alts, and am in a number of guilds. Every single one of my guilds is dead. Oh, sure, there are still active players in the guilds, but the guilds themselves aren’t doing anything together as a guild.
I realize my personal experiences aren’t any sort of scientific sampling, but it’s still rather depressing that ALL of my guilds have gone this way. It’s not just the permissions that’s killed them, of course. But I truly don’t see any life coming back to them without some major improvements to guilds.
There have been so many marvelous ideas about guilds posted throughout this thread that I struggle to believe Blizzard is ignoring them all. It makes me want to grab someone and shake them.
“What the heck are you guys doing over there? Don’t you care about guilds at all anymore?”
This was us. For all those who didn’t have the DBM or Threat Meters, we took you. For all those who didn’t want to watch Youtube fight videos, we took you. For all those who didn’t want DKP to dictate your opportunities, we took you. For all those whose talent build was “a bit different”, we took you. If your Gearscore was low, we didn’t care. If your class was nerfed to crap but you loved playing it, we didn’t care. If you’ve never played an MMO in your life and wanted to run with people who laughed at themselves on wipes (specifically a tank who occasionally wore the Haliscan Brimmed Hat on instances), WE TOOK YOU.
To us, we only wanted you to show up, have fun, and enjoy Azeroth. We wanted to be ambassadors to content without being “elite” or “hardcore”.
Guilds like ours were formed for one reason alone: To enhance the World of Warcraft for it’s members.
But go ahead Blizzard, you do you. Go ahead and just ignore the completely free, in-game retention teams you could have in all the guild leaders similar to myself.
(Actually, could you get your act together and fix this issue. I AM a shareholder and I want this game to be better, make more money, and enhance my portfolio for eff’s sake)
The best cringelord, and believe me, I’ve seen other cringelords and they are absolutely terrible. No skills. Every day other Hordies, they come to me and they’re all saying “thank you” because they know I am the cringiest. The other cringelords? All fake. Just fake, and really, its so very sad. Because in reality, they know my cringe is the best.
Venjin summed things us nicely with this statement:
That is exactly why I formed BloodOath all those years ago.
That’s why we’ve moved ourselves to Classic where we can operate as we have since “Original” Classic.
Wow can be a hostile place in more ways than one especially for certain people. It was for me when I was a newb.
Our guild does it’s best to create a welcoming, comfortable and what we hope is a fun filled environment within the sometimes toxic one of Wow where, (just as Venjin said) “We’ll take you”
It’s a shame we can only operate as we always used to (ie: until BfA) on the old version of the game where one would think everything would be more simplistic and primitive, (is officer) but aren’t. At least not in this case.
Sadly, the “new” permissions aren’t so new anymore. It’s been well over a year since this mess went live. We’ve been told (by Ion) that Blizzard understands the problem and that a fix is in the works. We have yet to see it.
The good news is there has been a revamp of the guild recruitment tab, which is supposed to go live with the next patch. Fingers are crossed. However, I’m still not going to do any recruiting with the permissions as they are. I want fully functional guild controls before I start inviting strangers into my guild.
Meh I mean it doesn’t really affect me, I haven’t bothered with guilds since Cata at least not with any seriousness but that’s another thread all on it’s own about lazy guild masters and testy guild mates.
I’m sincerely hoping we’ll get a fix before the end of this expansion. There’s supposed to be an 8.3 patch, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
This bums me out, because I love my guild and I spend more time than I probably should worrying about it and wanting it to be better/more fun/more inclusive. Unlike some of the other GMs on this thread, I HAVE carried on recruiting (because attrition is the one true constant!) I have just sucked it up and dealt with the dumb permissions because I’m fortunate to have officers that have been with us for many, many years, so I didn’t feel uncomfortable giving them “Is Officer” status. I just detest that I can’t granularly assign permissions down stream to newer people who might prove to be the next old officers!
Anyhow, from someone who loves and works hard for her guild, I’m sorry you’ve had such a run of crap ones, Roshirah! Thanks for recognizing how bananapants the current system is!
