Here is another post of me quoting someone. If the forums hadn’t gone weird when they switched over, I could go directly to the quoted post, but I can’t do that with any of the posts I quoted before the changeover. Just shows how long this thread has been going on.
Soon, Fumel will quote himself quoting himself, and the Quoteception will start to gather mass until it turns into a singularity. The forums will collapse into a black hole from which nothing can escape, not even light or good ideas. We’ll only be able to see it by the light being bent around the event horizon, a “shell” made of High Elf and Welfare Epics threads.
Some theorize that if you could pass through the singularity, you’d come out in another time, or forum. Try to get out if you start seeing the stars blur, Fumel. We wouldn’t want you stuck in a 1995 AOL chatroom.
I mean, a ton of great ideas have been presented in this thread alone, and nothing’s come of them. We can’t get any answers or action on our issue here, even though Ion said they were working on it. Blizzard has blown off or ignored scores of feedback on other topics and issues that should have been acted upon. The forums being a black hole is the best explanation for what’s been going on the last few years.
That’s really stupid. Lumping in so many privileges into a single check box? who is the idiot who cooked that up? I’d fire that guy and revert that mess!
Make it so you can pick and choose permissions in a more detailed way again.
I have been trying for a while to come up with a witty comeback for this issue…but there sadly isn’t one. As a former guild leader, this is horrifying to me. I don’t understand how someone at Blizzard looked at a drawing board for idea’s and pointed at this and said “YES! This is the one we want!”
To be fair, the problem has to do with the integration of guilds and communities. No one set out to screw up the guilds, it just was collateral damage. Because it’s entwined with the communities feature, it’s a lot harder to unravel than it would have been if they’d simply made the change outright.
Even so, it shouldn’t take more than a year to fix–unless, of course, one isn’t really trying to fix it. Hence the reason everyone who’s still hanging onto this thread is feeling a tad miffed that Ion can claim with a perfectly straight face that they’re aware of the issue and are working to fix it. Then again, he is a lawyer.
We were asked for feedback. We’ve given it ten times over. We were asked to prioritize our desires. We’ve done that as well: the priority is to separate the permissions. Now we’re just being ignored, but I, for one, am not going to stop nagging until either the permissions are fixed or the thread is closed. The fact that the thread hasn’t been closed gives me hopes that they’re actually working on it and there will be a fix. Sometime.
Meanwhile, I keep posting, risking the space/time continuum to keep this thread alive.
And we used to be able to have like, 9-10 guild ranks. Which was useful in hybrid guilds, which probably don’t exist anymore anyway. Love how they’re killing the functionality bite by bite.
This time I dug back and actually found the post I want to quote. It’s one of the most detailed and precise post offered in this thread, and seems to be exactly the type of feedback Ion asked for:
All I can add is my own personal plea: Fix the permissions, Blizz.
I’m still doing my read-through. I’m only up to November. Most of the posts are describing why we need the permissions separated. I’m not sure if I need to quote those any more. I mean, Ion did say they understood the problem, and then he asked for more feedback, especially if it’s specific feedback. So here’s a bit of specific feedback about the guild permissions:
Honestly, I don’t know if we’ve been given this specific permission back or not. I probably should check before I post, but I’m feeling like Blizzard. I want this to go “live” now. I can always fix it “later”.
That’s awesome that this issue is still seeing support from the community.
But, at the same time, it’s terrible that the community hasn’t even been dignified with a response to this nerf of functionality.
Is it okay for me to say I’m glad you did this faster than Blizz? I mean, it seems like a bigger priority to me. And I’m very happy that you’ve recovered.
But, Blizz? Venjin is better now, so you don’t have to hold off on fixing the permissions while he recovers, k?
Here is an interesting post from back in November. There is some very specific feedback about the difference between communication and dialog, as well as relevant commentary about the permissions.
I’ve been holding out hope that we’ll get some major guild improvements in the next expansion, but it’s extremely off-putting to think we won’t get any changes until then. Blizz, please, for the sake of your game, fix the permissions.
