The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

Here is some more very specific and detailed feedback from August:

I wish I could think of some way to emphasize how important this issue is. Unfortunately, we’ve gone over a year without a fix now. The game hasn’t imploded because of it (though some guilds have) so I guess it doesn’t seem like a priority to the devs.

Still, I’m not giving up until we either have a fix or this thread is closed down. Seems like this is a good time to get it done. 8.2 is live and Classic still is weeks away. C’mon guys, fix the permissions.

Edit: I had to remove the links from the post I quoted because I’m not allowed to post links. They were just the links from the OP showing the new and old permissions. In case anyone’s forgotten what the permissions used to be (it’s been a while since we had useful permissions), go ahead and have a look at the OP.

Here is an idea from August that’s been mentioned more than once:

While breaking up the permissions wouldn’t preclude any GM from giving all their officers all the permissions, an “advanced” option would leave the current version in place for those who really don’t want to pick and choose permissions. Those of us who want more options and ways of managing our guilds could use the “advanced” tab to do so. If making an advanced tab would be easier than reverting the permissions to their original settings, I’d be all for it.

Why bother?

Blizzard and co. has more than abundantly made it clear over the years, alpha/betas, patches and expansions that they give don’t give two rocks about the plentiful player feedback available to them.

Not to sound like a jerk but it’s like the same 5 people who are keeping this thread alive, Blizzard doesn’t seem to care about what the 5 of you guys think.

Sad but true.

Not true.
Our rage sustains them, and gives them lots of jollies.

That same statement was made a long time ago here. It wasn’t true than, it isn’t true now.

Blizzard asked the people here to continue posting more feedback.

Those like myself that are no longer regularly posting are hopefully doing what I am doing.

Watching and waiting.

If they are like myself, they’ve simply said it all in the last year as far as “more feedback” goes.

While I am here:

Blizzard!

Guilds are still broken.

As promised near the start of this year long thread, I have NOT gone anywhere, nor have I forgotten my ire.

It’d sure be awesome if you’d restore guild functions to pre-BfA standards.

Since it’s been stated some time ago that this issue is (supposedly) being worked on, it’d be nice to at least let us know what (if anything) you have in mind as far as a restoration / fix (upgrade?) for guild permissions.

Thank you.

As I’ve said numerous times, I don’t care if I’m the last one posting, I’m going to keep doing this until they either fix the permissions or close the thread. I’m stubborn that way.

Ion actually said that they understood the problem and were working on a fix–and then he asked for more feedback. So, if they really don’t care, they’re amazingly sadistic and are getting their giggles from jerking our chains.

Since Ion’s a lawyer, I don’t really put such a thing past him. However, I’m (mostly) an eternal optimist, and it doesn’t kill me to make a post every day or so.

I am, therefor I post.

because lots of people have given up… Blizz is clearly taking the “ignore it till it goes away” approach… and after more than a year… it’s working… people are tired of waiting for blizzard to actually do something…

Bleh, still not reverted.

I need to get my TL3 back…

Because Fumel can’t post links, I’m doing his job today. This is Venjin’s response to Ion’s Q&A request for more feedback:

We really shouldn’t have to explain why we need the permissions separated. Honestly, this entire thread shouldn’t have even had to be made because the permissions shouldn’t have been borked in the first place.

But they were, so it does.

Fix the permissions, Blizz.

That post is outstanding and is a great example of why granular permissions are important for guild management.

Checking in again to make sure my voice is heard. Everyone contributing to this discussion needs to keep doing so. So far we’ve been ignored, or at the very least not engaged with in dialogue.

As of now, I haven’t assigned anyone in our guild with the “Is Officer” check box since there are certain permissions I will not assign, regardless of rank. As a result, nobody in the guild has access to any of those eight privileges since they’re all lumped together in a one-size-fits-all definition of “an officer,” as defined by someone on the Blizzard WoW team. I’ve been playing WoW since 2005, raiding since 2005 MC, and leading our guild as guild master since 2007. I know our guild and how to effectively manage it, not some stranger at Blizzard.

Please give us the individual permission customization we had prior to patch 8.0. That’s all I’m asking for.

For further recommendations to help guild management, add a complete log/record system for the guild bank so the guild master can keep track of cumulative records on gold deposits, gold repairs, gold withdraws, item deposits, and item withdraws. If WoW developers can create and maintain a statistics tab with all kinds of totally useless information for my character’s entire history, they can add a feature that lets me keep track of guild bank records. That would actually help guilds and their leaders manage things like donations rather than have to make Google sheets and such.

Please address this problem. This thread began on July 17, 2018. We’re now at July 31, 2019. It’s been over one full year now with nothing done here. That’s absurd.

Many other recommendations to help guilds have already been provided in this thread. This information can be gleaned from some eager, hard-working interns and would make a good project. Get to work now. You have what you need, and the “discussion” has already occurred. Read it, and pass the information along to the next group of people who need to make the corrections. Failure to do so will just further the stereotypes of poor communication and the apparent growing disregard for the gaming community at Activision Blizzard.

I will continue to check in here until the change is made. Everyone else needs to do so, too.

Just because it definitely bears repeating, here is Takoda’s transcript of the Q&A reply about the guild permissions:

She also linked the vid with the time stamp, but I can’t post links. Click on the arrow in the quote and it will take you to her post where you can access the link.

Here is me quoting a whole bunch of feedback posts that are all articulate and well written:

It sounds to me like he knows he has gotten the feedback, he is just asking us to echochamber forever.

Yeah, pretty much. That’s why I consider his reply a challenge to keep this thread going even though we have nothing concrete to add to the tons of great feedback already here.

They’ll have to shut the thread down to stop me.

Fix the permissions, Blizz.

With you all the way, Horde bro!
Though I be one of the Great Unwashed…‘guildless’ that is, I do agree that wrecking guilds by way of messing with their internal aspects is foolish.
NEVER have I seen so many unguildeds before this and like me, they’re perfectly happy!
Back in the day: ‘yay new expac/patch what great new stuffs they gor now! We’re excited and passionate and look forward to esploring all this new stuff!’

today: ‘what are they taking away this time?’

Good job Blizz.
