unless you’re the one saying harmful things, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
I think issues like this are forcing folks to not use guild chat at all. In many of my guilds, guild chat used to be a way for folks to share a conversation. Depending on the make-up of that group, such conversations could vary from sedate to pretty wild. Still, anyone online could follow the chat, even if they didn’t participate. You felt included either way.
Now, when people pm or use some other communication method, even when folks are online the guild feels dead. And the members not included in the conversation feel left out.
Personally, the main thing I dislike about the persistent chat is that it doesn’t show everything that comes up in the guild chat. Specifically, the achieves. My guild chat (on multiple guilds) is full of “Grats!” messages with no hint to what they refer. I don’t see that as being something that needs to be permanent in any way.
Everyone; don’t respond to the troll. He lives to be flagged so he can get threads shut down, which is why Blizzard tolerates him.
I’ve been nothing but respectful and helpful in this thread.
The drama only happens when people choose to get offended over nothing.
While you may not agree with me, that doesn’t make me a troll.
It’s OK for people to have opinions which vary from your own.
Nothing I’ve said would cause this thread to get shut down… unless all the people who disagree with me start abusing the flagging system… which will result in the thread getting locked. (through no fault of mine)
Many of the posters in this thread may disagree with things I say, but they’re still able to remain civil, hold an adult conversation, and thank me for the bumps.
I have often disagreed with you, Bully, as you well know. I do hope I’ve managed to remain civil. I personally like having opposing views because it forces me to think through my own position(s) more clearly.
I do want to take issue with this line:
I agree that people often choose to take offense, but I feel it’s wrong to say, “over nothing” because that dismisses their concerns outright. What is “nothing” to me might legitimately be a big deal to someone else.
I definitely don’t think your posts should be flagged just because you disagree with the majority of posters here.
i understand people are passionate about their various causes… the “over nothing” comment is in relation to people flagging posts which are perfectly within the CoC… this is absolutely “over nothing”… and just spiteful.
It makes no sense for people to flag posts, simply because they disagree with the sentiment… in the long run, it’s only going to hurt the people who have dedicated so much time and effort to this thread.
I don’t necessarily disagree with everyone, there have been a lot of good posts, and some well thought out suggestions… but for people to claim that only one opinion is valid, is biased… and just plain wrong.
There are people who are quite content with the UI, and would prefer to see development time dedicated to more pressing issues.

…and it’s already started.
I just got a notification because people are “spite flagging” .
It is not productive, and it’s detrimental to the entire thread.
I’m very sorry to see this. If people can’t simply disagree respectfully, they should at least be able to ignore those they disagree with. And by “ignore” I mean pay them no attention, not click a button.
I can’t recall ever seeing you post anything I would consider “flag-able” myself. The things I would see as fitting that category would be things that are against the forums CoC such as foul language, direct attacks on a gender, ethnicity, etc. I suppose I might flag something that was deliberately insulting without actually breaking the language rules, but that would be because it wasn’t contributing to the conversation.
^I have to 100% agree with this because opinions are opinions and therefor valid by their very nature. Whether or not an opinion is factual can be debatable, but even opinions that are completely wrong on the facts are valid as opinions. It seems like these days people have no idea the difference between fact and opinion and they treat them as one and the same.
That said, the change in the guild permissions has been undeniably detrimental to many guilds. I would venture that the change, though weathered by most, has actually been helpful to very few.
But this thread really isn’t about whether or not Blizzard should fix the changes because Ion has already stated that a fix is in the works. I, and others, keep posting because we were asked specifically for continued feedback, and because we’re not going to let this issue slide under the rug.
this is why i tried to find out if the op was still around…
it would be a great help if they were able to change the first post to a wiki post now that the forum permits it.
people would be able to add info where it can be seen, instead of getting lost in the thousands of posts.
I’m sure the OP is still playing. Their rep for the newest factions is higher than mine at the moment. But they aren’t bothering with this thread any more as far as I can tell.
Here is me being optimistic back in Nov '18:
How young and fresh I was then…
4 days shy of a solid year with this complete trash of a change for no reason at all. I decided to stop by the forum tonight and see what I’ve been missing. It looks like I wasn’t just burnt out on the game, it looks like the game really is just plain bad.
I personally don’t think the game is bad. I think some of the devs’ decisions have been abominable and haven’t helped the game, but I still have fun when I play.
I just wish they’d quit breaking things that were working perfectly fine. There was no reason to ruin the permissions to begin with. Why they can’t at least explain what’s taking them so long to fix it is another thing that makes me scratch my head. I do understand how some players feel like the devs hate us and WoW.
This matches my opinion pretty well. My guild has been enjoying the new raid quite a bit so far, and we just hopped into the Mechagon dungeon for the first time tonight. Generally, it was quite fun.
Overall, this patch is an improvement over 8.0 and 8.1, imho. The biggest disappointments for me so far has been the Beguiling affix (I miss the Bwonsamdi buff so much.) and the fact that permissions aren’t fixed yet. I was really hoping for some movement on guild issues by now.
10,000x this!
The optimist in me keeps thinking that maybe Blizz is working on some major guild improvements for the next expansion. And I’m thinking these improvements are so extensive, putting out the permissions changes right now will just distract them from the guild changes overall. So, while we’ll be getting the granular permissions back, we’ll also be getting a whole slew of stuff they’re not ready to talk about yet.
That’s what I think when I’m being optimistic, anyway. When I’m being pessimistic, I’m thinking things that would get me a forum vacation if I posted them.
ok solid deal here:
fix the guild permissions like all these pros want, and I PROMISE never to type the words ‘ALLIANCE HIGH ELF/ELVES’ in these forums again!
These are my words.
Please give us an update, devs. How much more ‘specific, itemized feedback’ do you honestly need? I don’t ask that sarcastically, because ever since you told us essentially ‘we’re working on it’, we’ve heard absolutely nothing. Was that a statement meant to placate us, or can we actually expect -some- sort of ground to be broken on this issue, or at least the silent treatment we’ve gotten since you first acknowledged it?
Because we’re still subbed.
They have our money so what do they care?
I dunno dude seems like this forum moderates approximately zero content so you’d probably be alright
Let’s find out!
deep breathe!
ION HAS AN ALLIANCE ALT!
If that doesn’t do it, nothing will!
Here are some more good suggestions from back in November:
This seems like pretty specific feedback, so it should meet Ion’s criteria. True, the ideas aren’t prioritized, but I don’t think that’s important. I’m really quite certain Druunah’s first priority is having the permissions fixed.
