The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

I figured it out.

This thread is the official #birdboxchallenge of Blizzard.

Either that or they’ve assigned NBA refs to monitor this thread.

Question:

Is anybody else’s guild log a day behind? It keeps saying stuff we say now as if it were tomorrow, and stuff that was said yesterday is marked as “Today”.

I thought that was just me. Like maybe I didn’t know what day it was or something.

Edit: After some thought, it’s occurred to me that maybe Blizzard is trying to mess with time on purpose. That way we can’t say they haven’t responded in months because, does anybody really know what time it is? (Does anybody really care?)

Great Scott! You’re right!

Wait a sec, does that mean guilds are now literally trapped in a temporal anomaly?

That would certainly explain a lot about WoW right now.

If only it were a temporary anomaly rather than a temporal one. /sigh

The log in my guild is appearing as “Friday, January 5th.” Which is a separate section from “Today.” For future reference, the correct day for today is Friday, January 4th. So that’s interesting. lol…

My, my
Hey, hey
New Guild control
Is here to stay
It’s better to burn out
Than to fade away

My, my
Hey, hey
Out of the queue
IsOfficer is so whack
Blizzard give’s you this
Then they take it back
Once you’re gone
You can never come back
When you’re
Out of the queue
IsOfficer is so whack

The King Crab is gone
But he’s not forgotten
This is the story of Gregory Rotten
It’s better to burn out than it is to rust
The King is gone but he’s not forgotten

Hey, hey
My, my
The New Guild Controls
Can never die
There’s more to the picture
Than meets the eye

Hey, hey
My, my

Thinking of you Venjin

Another rare, purely serious, post.

Blizzard,

I would like to explain something to you about the basic premise of our guild. Back in Vanilla, I left my original guild (The Dismal Rage - Bronzebeard) while I was their leading Warlock officer. This was a guild run by my real life friends, and their main tank was my best friend since Kindergarten. We had just started raiding Molten Core and a shift was taking place in leadership. They wanted to require anybody who raids to have a baseline set of add-ons installed or they would not be eligible to be a raider.

I wholeheartedly disagreed with this rule, on the grounds that it went against everything the original GM envisioned (inclusiveness and camaraderie vs. pure drive to succeed). That, and I was the best damn lock in the guild despite having the default UI, no threat meter, and my DBM was a magical racial ability called “Paying Attention”. Heedless to say, I left on less than amicable terms and bounced around a few guilds before starting Rising Sun - Bronzebeard with my wife.

Our guild was founded on one principle: You bring your A-Game? You’re in. Your A-Game sucks? We’ll help you bring it up if you want. Requirements? Don’t be a d-bag. No addons, no tricks required.

No flips, just fists.

All these things you’ve done over the years to “streamline” player choice, have NEVER applied to our guild. Simplified Talent Trees because of cookie cutter builds? Pfft, back then, we took you even if you were a “nerfed” spec. Sure, we helped people with talent choices if they asked or massively underperformed, but we NEVER forced people into a build just because we needed it or it was top tier. Not reforged correctly? We didn’t care. We took you how you were. Didn’t have enchants/gems/profession buffs? We helped you get them or just flat out hooked you up. There is no spec-check. There is no addon-check. There is no min/maxing. There is no player score. There is no, and never has been “Link the Achieve”. There is only “is that person cool and are they looking to have fun?”

And as much as I would like to think we are, I know were are not unique in this aspect.

There are probably hundreds of guilds with the same attitude.

Point is, Blizzard, guilds like us are the refuge of the casual player. Guilds like mine are where people who enjoy the game for the sake of the game can flock to. Guild leaders like ours are the ones who try to make the game fun, who try to attract and retain players to this cash machine of yours. We’re the ones who try to mitigate the frustrations of the grind, who will switch alts to help a buddy out in Warmode, who by the virtue of our own communities will mitigate the heartbreak of a bad bout of RNG with a well-meaning joke and a promise of “We’ll get you that ring man, don’t worry”. We are the closest things you’ll have to a “player retention team” within the game client and you are killing us.

You may be trying to ignore us, but my original reason for being here still stands. My wife is the GM. She is pissed. She lets me know every day.

You don’t live with her. I do.

So tell us what the heck is going on so I can give her answers.

Venjin, it sounds like you have an amazing guild. I made my guild because I couldn’t find one like yours. (Not saying there aren’t any on my server–just that the guild finder tool is worthless.) I’d love to grow my guild and make it into a haven for casual players who want to enjoy content at their own pace, but I’m not going to even try with the permissions as they are.

I truly don’t understand why Blizz won’t give us any answers here. I mean, I can theorize until the servers go down for good, but nothing I come up with makes honest sense.

Guilds are WoW’s lifeblood. Why would Blizz bleed its own game to death?

Our guild is like this as well.

I told my guild’s basic story what seems like ages ago, and that’s a lot to type again. (I am also really lazy and don’t want to take the time to go looking through this massive thread to find it)

Suffice it to say, I get this totally. My guild is made up of the misfits that might otherwise quit Wow within a week or two, We’re normally not raiders, but we do sometimes raid. We help out those that need it when they need it. We laugh at ourselves when we wipe for the Nth time, and cheer when we finally clear that ^%$#@#$* thing. (Or maybe we never clear it. We don’t usually care)

I agree! And I hope it survives this mess. I totally get your wife. I am mad as all get out and have been since this fiasco was forced down our collective throats.

They (Blizzard) hurt my baby ie: my guild / guildies / friends /family / etc…) that I, (in a weird way of looking it it) birthed and nourished and watched grow for well over a decade and I am not about to get over it and go away. I’ve said as much since I started posting here.

I’ve said this before as well, but I think it merits repeating:

Once upon a time Blizzard (Acti-Blizzard) understood that guilds were the lifeblood of Wow. They even stated as much themselves.

I’m not sure what exactly happened.

However, I do know Blizzard (Acti-Blizzard) is in some major turmoil right now. I can post links if necessary, however it isn’t hard to go look for all the news articles and videos online (tons of them and more all the time) that are seemingly almost documenting the fall of Blizzard as it is apparently being eaten alive by Activision.

This saddens me to no end.

For a great many, Blizzard games have always (until now) meant the very best in gaming. The best quality, the best stories, music, etc…They were the games made by gamers for gamers.

No longer.

Quality seems to have been replaced.

Customer service is a think of the past (we don’y know what we want anyway, right Blizz?)

I could keep going, but but it’s late for me, and I have an early morrow. You really can go check out all I’ve said.

It saddens me beyond words to think that this is how my adventures in Azeroth might end.

Don’t think you’re alone in the feeling. My guild is near dead, I can’t complain too much though since I don’t barely log on anymore. I just hope that the raid roster we have for the next raid is alright and people actually start playing again. My friend list / btag list is near dead. I cleaned it out right before the launch of BfA except for two old buddies who haven’t been around for years, everyone else was active and playing. I have around 60 people on there, near dead.

BfA really brought out the worst in WoW but that’s a whole different topic.

Guilds used to be the backbone of the community. I’d say equal to server communities but we don’t have server communities anymore. Blizzard seems to want to destroy what we have left, whether intentional or not. Blizzard has taken away so much from guilds that it’s actually useless to be in a guild unless you are mythic raiding or on the bench for a mythic team. That’s pretty sad for me to say as a GM, my guild/circle of friends are the only thing that has kept me here.

It’s gotten to the point where I don’t log in much anymore and it’s damn sure not because I have anything else going on irl. Tbh, I don’t know how much longer I will be here as it’s rather clear that we have a whole new direction for WoW with Ion and Friends.

But, here we are, still looking for a word from these blues after 172 days. Real men and women have spines, they would have something to say after this amount of time instead of stringing people along but I really wouldn’t expect anything more from these guys.

It is what it is.
shrug

I don’t think the blame is with the forum blues. They can’t tell us anything they’re not authorized to tell us. I know if I had that job, I’d be pretty ticked that no one was giving me anything to pass along. I definitely blame whoever should be working on this for not passing any info to the blues here. And if no one is working on this, the fault lies with whatever supervisor/manager/suit thinks this isn’t a problem that needs fixing ASAP.

It’s time for another unrelated anecdote that connects back to this thread!

The Normal Way
*Names changed to protect those who killed the raid group and those who didn’t.

Deep into Antorus, long after getting everything on farm, and progressing heroic, the brave adventurers of Army of Mulgore decided that what we really craved was an Antoran Gloomhound. So with courage aplenty, we did the smart thing and set the raid difficulty back to normal to work on the achievements.

One by one, the achievements fell before us until we stood before Aggramar. We tried and tried for that achievement, jumping to our deaths to reset the boss each time we failed. Then, running out of time, the decision was made to just kill him so we could get our weekly Argus kill quick before everyone needed to log off. We can always try again next week for the achievement.

“So we’re doing this the normal way, yeah?” George, our tank, asked.

“Yes,” Apollo, the raid lead (and other tank) confirmed.

With everyone on the same page, we did our pull timer, pulled the boss…and…

“George, what are you doing?” Apollo asked. George was taunting at weird times, dragging the boss all over the platform. No one knew where to stand because the raid markers were useless. Aggramar’s cleave was taking out melee and ranged dps alike. A mere twenty seconds into the pull, and half the raid was dead.

“You said we were doing this the normal way,” George responded.

“We’ve never done this fight like that,” Apollo said, trying super hard to be polite. “I don’t know what was happening.”

“Ohhhhhh,” George suddenly had a light bulb moment. “You mean we’re doing this the REGULAR way.”

Discord exploded with laughter, and “the normal way” became an instant meme.

To connect this back around: Blizzard, you’re doing this the “normal way” but you should be doing things the “regular way.” Please communicate with us.

I wish Blizzard’s “normal” way was as funny as your story.

I have just been bumping lately cuz you guys have been saying it all so well. Ven your guild sounds just like Maidens of the Dawn over on Alliance side ( Bronzebeard! high five) , we also have never required anything from anyone and have always thrived as a casual raiding guild even since vanilla. I have stated before that weather Blizz realizes or not guilds have become a something special , a place where all are equal and the stupidity of mankind can be put aside for a brief time, a family of like minded gamers who found a place they love inna game they love…truly beautiful! The changes that Blizz has made to the guild permissions has damaged our beautiful families and it has gone on too long! We need an update! We need to know the plan…or if there is no plan…WE NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING PLEASE! I love this game and the people in this game, Blizz help us help you.
