The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

Damn this threads been alive a while, some interesting points though.

For those that don’t like the current UI, you can always type /guildroster and see the older layout.
Hope that helps. <3

Thank you for attempting to help. However, that “fix” been pointed out several times over the last few months.

Sadly, the method described does nothing to restore the guild control that was removed / dumbed down by Blizzard.

As a side note and to keep inline with the topic of the quoted post, there is also at least one addon (possibly several) that will restore the original game ui as well.

More unneeded, unnecessary, and unasked for “fixes” from those wonderfully creative minds at Blizzard.

/sigh

I’m gonna open a restaurant. I’ll hire 30 waiters that do nothing but wait tables, and one guy that’ll be the manager, valet, cook, take reservations, clean the bathrooms, the windows, the grill, unpack all deliveries and restock everything.
Welcome to Ridiculo’s Thirty glasses of water will be at your table shortly as your car is parked, then prepare yourself for the most magnificent Toilet Salad you have ever had in your life!

So our last blue answer to this was on Aug 6th, and Blizzcon also went by with nothing to add.

A response of some kind would be really amazing. The “is Officer” selection is horrible and to get no response from Blizzard, other than the obligatory “we see this” is extremely disheartening. It honestly feels like they are getting more and more out of touch with their player base. Please reverse the admin changes, they’re terrible.

Honestly, I never even look at the new ui. If I want to see what’s happening in my guild I hit the aforementioned command line that is now in macro form on my bars.

I hate to say it, if we haven’t gotten a response after five months we aren’t going to get one at this point.

This is the way it was in CATA when we got CRZ, the forums blew up
well we still got CRZ.

Reinstate customizable rank permissions, please.

Or say whether or not a fix is incoming, or in the works, or not happening? Say something.

Don’t remind me, CRZ is one of the worst things added to the game, just to save on server costs

i like how there are now trust levels on the forums, but in guilds, apparenly there is only trust or no trust.

Glad to see this post got migrated over as well. It still has a lot of good feedback if you read between the posts.

I completely understand the need for the restoration of the guild UI. I hope they also bring them back with some newer features like a perma ban on an account to a guild so peoples alts don’t join. Does anyone agree with me?

Definitely agree with this.

That suggestion has been made by a few posters here. Myself included.

Great minds etc

It is a MUST HAVE. Too many trolls just rejoin on their alts ya’know? lol

I just don’t understand why anyone thought lumping all the permissions under one rank was a good idea. There have been many, many posts explaining all the drawbacks to this idea (I know, I’ve read them more than once).

The UI can stay if it’s really necessary, but the permissions truly need to be broken up again. Please, Blizzard. I’ve been saying over and over that you do listen and you do care about making a quality game. Now I’m wondering if the naysayers aren’t right. It’s like you really don’t care as long as you get our sub money.

17 hours without a bump, eh? bump

Seriously, it’s been 4 months without a word. The Warfronts ilvl requirement was crammed in within a day or two.

I have given you as much feedback about why this is a bad idea as has a bunch of folks in this thread. It violates every known standard of secure programming there is (yes, I am quite aware that the content being secured by these permissions is entirely virtual, as well as being entirely aware that they are only “pixels on a screen”) nonetheless someone wrote those standards a very long time ago and in the intervening time vectors of attack have increased not decreased. Value of the schemes used to hand out officer positions in guilds has only become more important, and the value that the permissions safeguard has only increased.

IsOfficer hamstrings guild masters and others who are responsible for defining guild structure. Since you, Blizzard, do not care to take the care and feeding of guilds under your own management you leave the rest of us no alternative but to handle it ourselves. The very least you could do here is to revert this IsOfficer nonsense. But you need to do more than the least. You need to do much more.
So since I and others have given you literally volumes of feedback on this it is now your turn. You need to tell us why you ever thought this was a good idea to begin with and then you need to tell us it will be reverted in the very next patch or hotfix we can come up with.

It isn’t rocket surgery. if you have sufficient granularity and then you increase the size of the grain by several orders of magnitude you are going to lose the ability to slice and dice as you did before.

Change it back Blizzard.

Sorry, I’ve been traveling and neglecting my posting.

I was wondering if the maintenance tomorrow would include anything for us, but I doubt it. At this point I doubt just about everything. But that doesn’t change the fact that the permissions need to be broken up.

It’s utterly ridiculous to have everything lumped under a single rank. Guild leaders need the option to assign duties as they see fit. What about this concept is so hard to grasp?

Principle of least privilege is a very good security principle. No clue why Blizzard, who added 2-factor authentication a long time ago to help us not have our accounts hacked and our pixels stolen, would take this away from guilds, so that they WOULD have their pixels stolen.
