The New CurseForge App is Bad

It takes 10+ seconds to load whenever started. It can fail to scan addons after loaded. It is super slow and sometimes gets stuck in refresh forever.

I have no idea how someone manages to mess up such a simple app so badly, that maybe it is intentional.

True, it has issues. I wonder if we’re better off just going the Overwolf route again.

Mine has never done that. I’ve had zero issues with it. Who cares if it loads slow. This is all free. You can always download them all manually if you want to really see what slow is.

Wowup was free, twitch was free, so were all the addon manager apps before. But none of them lags as bad as Curseforge.

I loved Wowup, but that’s over now. So to me, I either can get used to one of the new methods, or do it manually.

To be clear though, Twitch is a huge company. Wowup was basically a passion project. This one is a compromise, a pretty good once since I don’t have to have the full app on my computer. Maybe try reinstalling?

Might be a stupid question but you’re not using a mechanical hard drive are you?

Desire to put more crap into the program than what is necessary to do the job :+1:

I don’t, don’t want to wait on some dumb app made by a company that blocked off an app that was FASTER (ajour).

So is harassment

No, 16G DDR4 RAM + 1TB NVME SSD. And same happens to my M1 Macbook.
So I experience the same lag on both Windows and Mac OS versions.
And ofc I checked the CurseForge settings, which doesn’t have much to set.

That is really weird. I do experience some 30 sec wait when the app is trying to scan and figure out which addons have updates, but that’s about it. I also had similar experiences on Twitch. Is it like really bad, like minutes of hanging there?

Yes, it can keep “refreshing” for over 10 mins and get stuck forever, until I restart it.

That’s what I do. I exit the app completely and start it again. It’ll usually clear up the quirks, initially.

And you are being upset about something that is free so who cares if it’s slow and has minimal issues, not like any complainers of you are ever going to support the developer to make a better app. You think this stuff is free to make?

I don’t like the new curse forge at all. It has such bad performance issues it’s insane.

Personally, just easier to manually install addons. Too much spam/bloatware trying to auto update

The version that had to load Overwolf first was always slow as molasses for me. The version that doesn’t use Overwolf as a launchpad has been infinitely faster at loading since I grabbed it instead.

The CurseForge App that I am using has never hung up or had any issues. It done really well at letting me each day keep all my 21 add-ons squared away and up to date.

You don’t even have issues when you click on tab “get new addons” ? This is where my app starts to mess around. Gets stuck on loading bar, can’t refresh etc etc

So I can’t say I’ve personally had issues, although I have made sure to enable the settings that make sure the Overwolf and Curseforge App both shut down when I close the program.

It does take a few seconds after I start the app up before I can update addons (I assume that’s because an advertisement has to play or something, I have no clue honestly) but then it runs smoothly. All my addons update, I’m able to search for new ones without issue etc etc.

A shame you’re dealing with issues OP, but I think they might be related to just your PC.

Mine just quickly loads up a list of add-ons that look like the most popular and new releases at a blink of an eye. Maybe deeper in the process it has its issues that everyone is complaining about. I will admit when I look for a new add-on, I mostly go to the web site myself and do it manually the 1st time, and install it manually the 1st time.

I’m hoping the new UI changes allows me to dump a good portion of my ad on’s. Will have to wait and see. Now if the would only adjust fights so Boss mods aren’t needed either.

I haven’t noticed issues, but are you using the standalone version or the one with overwolf? Note I use the standalone version
