The new battleground

While I’m sure a perfectly symetrical silvershard mine map will be a familiar addition to the pvp queue for a lot of people, I was hoping with the announcement of a new battleground, the first since the end of Legion, that we might get something new and thematically appropriate.

An epic battleground that utilized dynamic flight should have been the direction you as developers went. Epic bgs are by and large the most accessible entry points into PvP for anyone interested. Individual action can vary greatly so someone not knowing what to do and being able to follow the group can learn quickly how to be an active participant.

As well, symmetry is less important if dynamic flight is enabled and lets be honest, a perfectly mirrored map while fair is just super boring. I want battlegrounds to have some sort of lore implication at the very least, be mirrored in the real game world in some way like old raids used to be.

40 vs 40 is a game mode unique to WoW that they are not capitalizing on in a way that would really draw players to the game. Epic bgs also allow for a far wider scope of gameplay, more participation outside of just being meat for the meat grinder in endless lane fights. Players being able to do things for the greater group that benefit everyone like getting buffs or unlocking waypoints can be things someone who is nervous about combat or their contribution to it can still engage with.

There needs to be more accessability to PvP in a lot of ways. Having it all boil down to essentially focusing on arena style fights is so limiting to the game it should be the last place the devs look to for inspiration. Take the blinders off, see the bigger picture and bring the War back to Warcraft.

Even just making Warfronts pvp instead of pve would go a long way.

Honestly it seems the more appropriate place to implement dynamic flight into a battle ground scenario than 15 vs 15. What do you have against epic battlegrounds?

Less space to make a difference with solid individual play

Favors 40 yard rdps over other specs

Frequently feature vehicles, which turns the player into a 1-3 button spec

Known issue with party syncing premades

Lots of extra items or buffs needed to excel, like Ashran zone buffs or AV recall

nothing against it. It’s the sync queue exploit cheaters that is the problem… no point having a new one of normal legit players can’t enjoy it.

A true focus on epic battlegrounds and large scale wpvp would do wonders for the pvp side of the game.

frankly you won’t ever get the pvp participation of yesteryear unless some pvp rewards are bis for pve players
there’s just no way, sadly.

you can say it’s the balance, you can say it’s the lack of fun, but really, it’s the fact that most people quit pvp and the ones that are left are the regular turbosweats and the boosting turbosweats.

there’s just no way to attract regular players when they have to face 2800 players at 1400 rating because they got away with deranking

there’s no way to convince someone epics are good fun when they try them and get queued up against premades that wipe the floor with them

even blitz will fall off in popularity when more and more people become convinced that those 15+ insta declines in a row are because people are trying to sync

they can add 20 new battlegrounds, it won’t make any difference beyond the first month of “oh this is neat, lemme give it a shot for old times’ sake”

I agree 100% and that’s really all there is to it.

Well said. Now, we should clarify this is true IF it’s pug vs. pug or casual premade vs. casual premade (where groups are equal). ToxicAF min-max premades do not make the game enjoyable for anyone.

Also, just ignore the peeps ‘downvoting’ epic BGs. They have all the other game modes they could ever want and are still somehow unhappy. :grimacing:

Developers don’t make the game building decisions, all they do is code the changes the story creators and system directors agree on. Perhaps, it’s time to look farther up the management chain to get game changes made.

WOW development of 2004 do not exist today. It’s an entirely new kind of team making the master decisions for the direction the game is headed.

Probably help if you took a management course in college along with studying the long goals of developing MMORPG’s.

My two cents as a developer in general life.

Epic battlegrounds could be good, but we haven’t had a new one since Isle of Conquest.
Ashran and Wintergrasp are repurposed world PvP zones turned into epic battlegrounds.

There’s a lot of cool things that could be done to make a new, fun, epic battleground. And there’s ways to reduce the effect of sync premades or faction imbalance.
Epic battlegrounds don’t need vehicles or to make you feel like your personal performance has no effect on the battle.
