The Merger is Closed

I can’t find the thread where we were talking about this originally, so here’s a new one.

TLDR: They’ve finally gotten all the regulators on their side and have closed the deal. Kotick is out at the start of next year but is open to remaining in whatever way Microsoft wants him.

Post your thoughts, concerns, criticisms, comments, insults, romantic confessions, and crab raves below.

Who knew there were so many gamer moms out there who love candy crush? Kind of a crazy stat.

I think this is a good thing. Blizzard probably doesn’t want Microsoft to come in and start making changes, and so long as Blizzard continues to meet goals and push quality products, Microsoft won’t need to. Hopefully the next expac isn’t a dud.

You don’t spend $68.7 billion and not do everything in your power to make it pay off.

Good riddance to Kotick. Can’t happen soon enough.

I continue to remain optimistic for the future of WoW and Warcraft as a Franchise.

LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

And, if you asked all those gamer moms if they played any video games, they’d almost certainly say no. Or after a bit of prodding, they’d say “well, I play Candy Crush on my phone sometimes, but that doesn’t count.”

It’s a bit strange to me that even doing something as simple as installing Steam puts you in the top, like, one percent of hardest-core gamers, statistically speaking.

I have to wonder, though, if Microsoft feels that Blizzard is pushing quality products.

Like - Overwatch people aren’t happy. Diablo people aren’t happy, as far as I’ve kept up with it. Starcraft might as well not even exist anymore as far as Blizzard is concerned. Warcraft and Hearthstone players are like…content, as far I can tell? But I thought we heard that Dragonflight is the only WoW expansion to sell less than the previous expansion.

I’m sure it’s just as likely for Microsoft to go “well, Steam reviews don’t matter, you’re making a lot of money so it’s okay.” But it feels like their last unmitigated success was Overwatch 1, going on eight years ago, so I think there’s a good chance Microsoft tries at least a bit to right the ship.

I’m surprised that it finally passed through the EU. But hey here’s hoping that they make fixes to WoW, make new updates to model and to the game. And that we can fly in Silvermoon.

and entrances to all the spires and balconies! and…stuff in the unfinished parts of the city!

AN EXPLANATION FOR THAT BOX UNDERNEATH THE SPIRE

Sorry I put that there trying to distract you so that I can ki-- I mean hug Lor’themar. Yup. Totally hugging him. Not burning him alive or anything like that.

But in seriousness, the whole left side of the city being rebuilt and the dead scar finally healing, and the scourge going away. And all the fel crystals being gone would be nice.

ive always headcanoned that the left side was rebuilt, and put under one of those time bubbles that the Nightborne use for their wine. Help repopulate the city without artificially aging them

Like a Hyperbolic Time Chamber

That’s actually a good idea. I’d imagine that since the Third War they would have not only been able to fix the city by now but also repopulate the city. And hopefully after the Burning Crusade gotten rid of the fel crystal ghosts.

As the stats guy that shows up when things like this are mentioned, we don’t know how much DF has sold, because Blizz won’t release the numbers.

That tells me that it has likely sold less, because if it had sold more obviously Blizz would tossing those sales numbers in our faces.

What numbers they have released, do show higher than ever subscriber retention. So, while it *likely didn’t sell as much, it appears those of us still here and who have purchased it, are enjoying it enough to stick around more than any other expac previously.

IMHO, that is a huge deal. Blizz has never had an issue getting people to buy the latest expac. They have continually had issues getting people to stick around past about the first 6 months after an expac release.

What is Joe Biden’s plan for this?

All I’m really looking for here is for WoW to get bundled with Game Pass.

I hope they completely scrap the disaster that is OW2 but honestly, I am not expecting much.

I worked with a lady in her mid-40s who called herself a gamer because she liked phone games (not candy crush, they seemed to be some strategy/town builder type thing). So we’d talk about the kind of games I played sometimes too. One time I mentioned Skyrim to her and she said she watched the trailer and got really excited about it and wanted to play (the phone games she’d play were fantasy themed too and she liked that kind of thing), but didn’t really have a machine that could do so.

It was kinda eye-opening to me that she wasn’t just like turning up her nose to the idea of sitting down and playing what I’d consider to be a more traditional game, just that phone stuff was the only thing accessible to her. I do wish there was some way for pc gaming to be more accessible because I am a Very Serious Hardcode Gamer™ who thinks phone games are inferior in most respects, and I’d love to see all that phone game money go into things with more creative merit (is this snobby?). And the phone gamers would probably have more fun too. Like yeah I want moms to play Skyrim. Everyone should play skyrim

anyway idk what microsoft buying blizzard means for wow. I just have to give up on my hope that wow would one day be ported to the playstation or something

World of Warcraft Xbox. I fear for the future.

In all seriousness, Microsoft can’t be any worse for Blizzard than Activision has been. I’m okay with this.

Broadly I find myself not caring altogether that much.

It’s Microsoft trying to silence me. But it won’t work

I honestly can’t imagine things changing that much.

I feel like WoW might get blander under Microsoft’s eye. But after Dragonflight, I don’t know if that’s even possible.*

*it is possible
