The Maintenance Within

Why doesn’t Blizzard run night shift maintenance like every other 24x7 service that exists?

My web hosting company did all our maintenance at night in 2008, this is not a new concept.

well i agree to disagree with you. people are employees and if they released something not working correctly you stay til its fixed, and that is true with almost any industry. youve never had to work late because you didnt finish your job before time to clock out? or you were in the middle of a specific task? you are not entitled to your job atleast in my opnion

id like to know the owner of blizzard the new guy who bought the company, might be the most greedy person in the planet… and bought this company solely for the 5 million subs

Brother, please don’t pull a reading comprehension comment out.

I’m saying you started it, don’t get upset when someone does to you, what you started. God your iq is room temp.

“Blizzard taking 2 decades to figure out servers as more and more people play WoW simply can’t be done. They’re a small indie company”.

Asks for a list of people who tested beta
Gets list
Ignores it

I have faith that you’ll be able to:
A. Learn to read
B. Learn to not toss random statistics
C. Not perform like a jester for blizzard

I mean we got new hardware shipped over the weekend to fix the AH; I think it’s safe to say they’re working overtime consistently currently, but we can’t really expect human beings to work 24 hours a day until the game is perfect.

Like I really hope that’s not what people truly think the solution is.

7AM-11AM is an “early riser”?

lol??

Dude is 410 comments in to a thread and thinks what people want is blizzard doing 24 hour overtime shifts versus them fixing more stuff during alpha and beta.

You have to either be trolling or straight up illiterate

Can’t remember for sure, but wasn’t the game down for well over 24 hours onetime during TBC? Black Temple, or Sunwell period? Wasn’t the only time the game was down for over 12 hours back then, but that onetime, it was like you believed the game was never going to be back online, or they shut it down for good lol.

7am dever time office in ca wasnt open yet

i think people working in shifts as a team would be the ideal answer

No, I needed to be awake really early to get to my job on time and I hated it.

2am wake up, so I could be awake enough to catch a 3am train, so I could get into the city to work at a breakfast cafe that I had to start prep for at 5am.

It was absolutely horrid and I hated it, but a job was a job. But that job taught me the importance of having reasonable working hours. Which I didn’t have because of where I lived. If I lived in the city, that would have been more reasonable.

I don’t wish working extremely early on anyone, especially when the people who benefit from that would be whinging and whining about it anyway.

None of that happened, are you just trolling deeper or are you actually the definition of what I hear reddit is full of?

Your response to your misreading is to attack MY reading comprehension; do I have to explain how that makes no sense or can you figure this one out, at least?

You insulted me in your first and second posts to me, it’s literally up top.

Blizzard had tons of separated servers, and then the playerbase complained about how servers ruined the game so they have found ways to amalgamate them; this solution comes with problems that will take time to fix, anyone who didn’t understand this going in chose to be ignorant.

You didn’t give me a list, you listed 2 youtubers who did things I listed (leveling, delves), and none that did every WQ/Side quest/pet battle/random craft possible etc.

You have ignored several of my points, and attempt to flip it on me; that’s your MO friend, not mine.

I didn’t toss out random statistics, I tossed out data we’ve had, you however has said nothing while typing a lot.

I’m sorry but this thread title is halarious.

The cash grab FOMO has distorted the usual launch cycle so now we’re waiting a bonus week for that content which leaves nothing to do for about a week. In fact longer since they botched the launch given everything was so easy and fast to level

But I think the fact that they made hardware changes over the weekend shows they are, I’m quite sure there are shifts of people doing back-end coding at all hours, but the people who do their updating/push it to servers/whatever terminology is proper here are likely coming in the AMs, it would be a waste for them to sit for a shift twiddling their thumbs while the back-end coding is being done.

I never said anything about a legal gotcha, I just said it would be interesting information. I also made the distinction between routine maintenance and extended maintenance. You say ‘unlimited amounts’, but I feel pretty limited in my ability to play right now since I literally can’t play right now.

If, however, you want to talk legal gotchas, I’ve seen lawyers make stupider things happen than convince a court that people deserve to have the time that they’ve paid for and never received added to their accounts.

the point is you never know what happen with code. you can add 1 line and the line you added 7 years ago is in conflict and make everything go cucumber. and its not ‘‘highlighted’’ you gotta find whats wrong.

you guys act like its super easy to make a game and code it

all i can say to you is im not a defender of blizzard at all but i do play other MMO and trust me they have the better maintenance time out there and the biggest community/feature to update.

one again i do a friendly reminder that the other big MMO FF14 did a 3 day maintenance WITHOUT compensation for their new expansion and the weekly maintenance are way longer.

could Blizzard made a maintenance at night yeah they could but maybe they prioritize healthy workplace ( wich i encourage because having sleep as human being is more important that ‘‘father’’ having 3 hours of gameplay dont you think? )

do something else if you cant wait or play something else i dont get what’s the rush

Spoken like a person who has never worked in engineering once in his life.

Make your maintenance people do their maintenance at night, they can even do it remotely.

There’s no excuse for day shift maintenance in 2024.

Same here.

And if the coding isn’t ready over night, and is being worked on, what then? Should the engineer work 24 hours incase it’s ready at 6am instead of 7?
