I’m unsure why we can throw in hotfixes for mage tower and extend the event, but we can’t hotfix this drop rate and extend it by a week. Why they have to tease us and say see you in 365 days is baffling
Disclaimer: I just got this mount a couple of days ago. I really wasnt trying at all for it unlike most previous years when I ran 10+ alts daily for it. I skipped the first 6 days of the event, and then I said heck why not and had free time, and after 5 or 6 alt cant remember; there it was.
Did I ever think I’d get it, no way. I got just super lucky on some RNG roll. Do I feel better now, mixed feelings. I now no longer have any reason to level alts every year to “try my luck at an event”. But the chase is done for me.
Now for changes though, i dont have numbers of my personal attempts over the years but I would number close to 1k.
Do I think the drop rate is abysmal for such a mount promoting love during the love fest? Yes. I would support at least a 1-2% drop chance. Raids have that at least and you have 14 days on just one toon to do it with. I think the holiday is too long personally though. Reduce it to a week, up the drop rate, make it still rare but not excessively nonrare.
Dont like a token idea cause the love bird already is your token mount along with toys, pets, charms. X-45 is your boss mount chance.
Just my two cents.
Also, bunny mount needed for Nobelgarden and Broom mount be permanent. Pls and ty
Me and my discord pal’s were just talking about this the other day. We range from Cutting Edge Raiders to Pet Battle enthusiasts. I would say around half of us have enjoyed and experienced 15 years of World of Warcraft game design and imagination.
We all equally agree on how oversights similar to this in their innocence; in new and old systems alike; are disappointing cages of content waiting to capture players who often find themselves struggling through an occasional content drought or a personal disenfranchisement within the overarching live gameplay experience. The meta achievements tied to these various holiday events could present an opportunity to award these more significant rewards while keeping them light in theme. That would provide an attainable, and more importantly, measurable goal to fit within the limited window of availability. Not everything in a game with as broad an audience as this needs to be compartmentally ‘fun and engaging’ content. But whenever there is an exception made, it needs to be limited, and not in any way gated arbitrarily and easily overcome with bursts of individual player agency. To my experience this would provide a necessary feeling of accomplishment while also enabling the player to overcome gameplay vulnerabilities on their own schedule that we should not reasonably expect an optimal retrospective redesign of; simply an acceptable, measurable and palatable one. I recommend this perspective only when speaking to improving the visibility and accessibility of pre-existing reward pools and gameplay loops.
Most importantly, I wanted to offer my feedback on this in gratitude for the tone and candor evident in the reply by Chimes. Thank you. I am encouraged by this style of interaction as a customer because I believe it shows a level of humility from the Dev team as a whole. The circles I spend my recreational time in are afflicted with relatively recently developing opinions that would be very relaxed by seeing more of this going forward. Cheers.
Its not an issue though. The problem is this mount, and holiday mounts in general, should never have been made to be this difficult to obtain in a short amount of time unless that was always supposed to be the intended rarity of the item. The question I have, as a player who spent the last 12 years farming this mount and finally had it drop this year, is how is any change concerning this going to affect me given the amount of time and effort I put into obtaining this mount? If next year comes around and I suddenly see 50 players in one area on love rocket mounts I’m going to feel like all that time and effort was for nothing when I could’ve waited until the next event and got it easier. This is something you guys are going to have to take into consideration. Any change made that is going to make this mount easier to obtain is going to be a huge slap in the face to the players who obtained it under the old system. What will be done for us to separate our dedication to this achievement if something is changed to give more players a greater chance to obtain the mount? I guess the more important question is, how much higher of a chance will players have to obtain it as compared to players in the past?
You are very very wrong here. I am and so are many others. Some have 2 even 3 accounts with 50 chars and still don’t have it. Then you have people that have maybe 10 char get lucky and get it… how is that fair? Spoiler ~ it isn’t. You really think people that pay for a game should need 50 char and spend hours a day farming? They shouldn’t need to.
But you don’t have to do that. Its all RNG. You can run it on 1 character per day or 100 per day. That is entirely up to you. The rarity of this mount and the value players hold to it who both have and don’t have it revolves around the fact that this mount can drop at any moment for anyone and how much people have put into the farm for it. Some players get lucky and get it quick, others don’t. That is part of the mounts value. Take me for example. I farmed this mount on 20+ characters for 12 years and finally had it drop for me this year. It could’ve dropped at any time during that 12 years I tried for it, but it just now did. That is my story for this mount, but for another player they got it the first day they ever tried for it. It holds uniqueness to everyone.
Not everything has. The value of certain items revolves around its low drop rate. If you logged in WoW and suddenly saw 100 players all on this mount next year who all got it that year you probably won’t value it as much as you would if you get it the way everyone else has. People don’t realize what all contributes to the value of many things in this game.
It’s pretty silly to place value in something based on whether or not someone else has it in a video game.
If I get a mount that looks cool, I’ll use it because it looks cool, not because it may or may not be rare. The proliferation of PvP spider mounts didn’t make me stop using mine, because I thought it was a cool mount and not because I saw someone else using it.
If I want it then I’m going to do what I can to better my chances. I’m a girl that loves pink. It’s a pink rocket… it’s not just a +1.
This hole rng drop crap is old. It doesn’t belong in holiday events.
You think you would have gotten it if you only ran it once a day? Nope.
It should be in everyone’s collection that participates in the event, period.
What it looks like and the fact it is only obtainable 2 weeks out of the year is enough without rng layered on top.
I wonder why I see parades of wondering ancient tree mounts in Oribos… everyone has it…right? So people shouldn’t like it? Yet they do…
Agreed. Holiday mounts should be a fun thing to collect. Not require a bunch of stress and anxiety as you try to cram as many alts into the dungeon as possible to get it before the event ends.
Blizzard should also just put more effort into holiday events since we’re lucky if we get a new toy or battle pet every year to begin with.
But this is where they get us, if any special item is just handed out to everybody, then nobody would run these events anymore in subsequent years; unless of course something ‘New and flashy’ gets added each time.
No it absolutely not silly at all. A lot of people pride themselves in obtaining hard to obtain items. They love looking unique and different from the crown and pride themselves in the work they put into obtaining those things. This particular mount’s value largely comes from its rarity and then of course its unique model. Seeing a player on one of these is supposed to be a rare sight given the drop rate. Just like how you don’t see many players with mythic raid boss mounts. They are hard to get and for a reason. You can’t ignore how a lot of players feel about this mount who have it and know its something very unique because of its rarity.
Hear me out. But they could try adding new mounts and cosmetics to the holiday events each year instead of stringing the players along with ridiculously low drop rate mounts only a small percentage players will ever see
