Hello, I’ve encountered a technical frustration with the achievement process, and I’m hoping a Blizzard representative will be able to assist me with my quandary. Over the last ~3 years I’ve been gradually working toward The Loremaster achievement. I’ve been playing since the original release of WoW, so I’ve done my fair share of questing, and leveling alts. I’ll admit that I was taking my time, but I wanted the title Loremaster for one of my characters, so I was basically knocking out a different zone each time I leveled up an alt. I finally got to one zone left: Shadowmoon Valley. It was an ultra pain, but I eventually got around to completing it a couple nights ago. That got me Loremaster of Outland, and–should have–The Loremaster meta achievement. Curious what I was missing, I looked up the achievement and I discovered the worst possible scenario: The Shadowlands was added to the meta achievement. My heart sunk. After years of grinding and devotion, it was all. For. NOTHING.
So now I have decided to pour my heart out in an attempt for some grace and understanding from the developers. What can you guys do for me? Is it possible that I can receive credit for the achievement? Can I at least get the title & tabard? Literally, if I just did what I did tonight three weeks ago then I would have all of it. That doesn’t seem right to me. It doesn’t seem ethical, and it doesn’t seem fair. Now if Shadowlands was actually released, I’d get the idea of “sorry, you didn’t do it in time, better luck next time!” but Shadowlands isn’t even out yet. It hasn’t released, and I couldn’t do those quests even if I wanted to. So I did, in fact, make the cut-off time (not that it was announced anywhere). This normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but I’m not purchasing Shadowlands, so I’ll never have the chance to get this achievement/title/tabard again. I’ve been a committed subscriber for 16 years, and I have a statuette to prove it! I know it’s a long shot, but I’m hoping that my loyalty and my genuine right to these rewards will suffice. Before you dismiss me, consider this: There are people playing the game right now who have The Loremaster achievement, title, and tabard who have done nothing different from me. They have completed all of the same quests and done all of the same work I have, but they have been recognized for it, they have been rewarded. Please explain to me how that makes sense, that we have done the same, but I have nothing to show for it. I hope you can see my perspective here, and I hope you can right this wrong. Thank you for reading this post, and I look forward to receiving some communication.
The Shadowlands achievements should only take a few weeks. However, this happens every time there is an expansion pre-patch. All of its achievements are added and metas are changed.
You set out to pursue the achievement yet you didn’t read the achievement’s criteria?
How did that happen?
The Pre-patch happened and so we’ve entered SL preparedness. This happens with every new expansion, and so it shouldn’t be a surprise to you.
Even the log in screen changed!
You can also checkmark the achievement so that it tracks below your quests at the right as you complete things.
Really, this isn’t anyone’s fault but your own for not looking at the achievement.
This is entirely your choice, but it’d be a shame to have put in all that work towards Loremaster and not have anything to show for it. SL’s zones look gorgeous, especially Ardenweald.
Technically we are in shadowlands, we’re in the shadowlands game version, have the shadowlands abilities and talents rolled out, everything except the location. It’s annoying I agree, but there’s been many years to complete it.
During BfA it took them months to update the loremaster achievement, so I was able to earn it before they did that even though I didn’t buy BfA until much later. This time, no such luck. Sorry. But if you’re planning on playing shadowlands, just stay in the lockstep rut and you’ll have it.
if that was the case, i can’t really understand why you’d need a specific announcement in regards to something which has worked the same way since it has existed …
if you’ve played as long as you claim, you should understand that once the pre-patch releases, the achievement system considers us to be in the upcoming expansion.
what doesn’t seem fair, is just… handing people achievements.
lots of achievements are time sensitive, especially ones which reward something other than points.
if you feel hard done by, spare a thought for all the people who were nearing completion when cataclysm hit… they had all their progress wiped due to the change in loremaster requirements.
i can’t see why devs would make a change to the game to benefit someone who isn’t planning on purchasing the expansion.
Just out of curiosity, why would you be subbed continuously for 16 years (and get the statue, gratz on that), and yet you have no plans to purchase the latest expansion?
Do you plan to keep playing WoW after SL drops, but just not do any of the SL content (besides what we have now via the pre-patch), or you are going to just stop playing altogether?
I feel for you, I do. I finished the Loremaster stuff the day after prepatch launched and was confused why I didn’t get. I didn’t start playing until BFA though so this was a first for me. I’m annoyed sure, but at least I have everything else done so Shadowlands will be easy.
I’m a bit confused on why you aren’t getting Shadowlands though? You’ve been playing since launch, you say, and clearly want to still play since you are going for titles. So why no Shadowlands?
Oh man. I spent 3 weeks doing loremaster for classic, BC, and Wotlk and Outland Shadowmoon was the worst zone by far. That’s saying something when Borean Tundra and Dragonblight exist.
But yeah, you will do most of the SL requirements naturally.
Since you asked, Moo, I do plan to continue playing without SL. If I was going to stop playing, I’d imagine I wouldn’t care so much about the title/achievement (although I think it’s mostly the principle that brought me here.) I’m not interested in what SL has to offer, and I’ve been trying to find a reason to eventually let go of WoW. At this point I just level alts and collect transmogs–things I need a subscription for, but not SL. WoW has become just a social activity for me and my brothers now, and it’s tough saying goodbye to all of the time and effort I’ve put into the game. It has to be done eventually, though. So not getting the next expansion is the start of the process of giving up WoW forever. That being said, plans change. If something happens that leads me into SL (like a christmas/birthday present, for example) then I’ll probably explore some of the content and finish the achievement.
