I think the problem is more that there aren’t any technical “High Elves” in the Alliance that are playable as far as the story is concerned. You can roleplay all you like, of course, but a Void Elf you will be.
Void Elf paladin makes no sense.

alliance high elves are traitors and alliance sympathizers who left their people for those who left them to die.
the horde ‘high elves’ are really just blood elves who have gone back to feeding on enough arcane energy for their eyes to revert to a blue glow.
Oh this just gave me an idea for a new Belf Pally. I will make her with fair hair, blue eyes, dress her in a pretty blue mog…then RP her as a High Elf that gave the finger to the Alliance and returned home where she belongs. Afterall a) she can be a Pally as a Belf and b) she won’t be a Void Elf pretending to be an Alliance Helf. Thanks for the insperation!
That is correct. Blizz has given some customization options, but you’re still a void elf or blood elf. You’re not an uncorrupted high elf.
Also as a random note, I went to check up on my high elf buddies in Telogrus, and they’ve all got DK eyes now? https://i.imgur.com/DFyNElM.jpg
Blizz pls fix.
The alliance ones don’t have blond hair or the ability to play paladins so they are not even real high elves but since we’re getting blue eyes we will be exact high elves on the horde side now.
Well, I’ve been posting this everywhere today but:
high elves DO port in to the void elf starting areas to become void elves. Canonically, it’s the only legitimate pathway in the game right now if one is looking for a “high elf” based off the political affiliation and not genetics.
Yeah, they should have joined up with the orcs, who actually killed them in the past, rather than just being mean to them. Makes perfect sense.
Elves do get their eye color based off the energy they feed off of right?
No no no. No RPing allowed in this mmoRPG. The writers didn’t explicitly state that the high elves simply adopted the banner of their closest kin on each faction, and in game the mouse over still says “void/blood elf”. Get your RPing out of my RPG.
Exactly, those who will pretend their Velf is a Helf aren’t actual Helves. Which I’m sure my smart mouthed little Day here will point out everytime she sees one in Stormwind. I can see it now…
“Eww you bleached yourself to look like one of them? How uncouth and low borne of you…I bet you date humans too like a true Windrunner huh?” evil laughter
Horde High Elves are called Blood Elves, and Alliance High Elves are called Void Elves. that’s the Lore Difference right there.
the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and its easier to forgive an enemy of war than it is to forgive treachery.
Well, according to Danuser these customizations were designed to reflect different origins, and walks of life a character belonging to a certain race may have made regardless of quest text. And while a High elf may have chosen to join the Horde, that choice doesn’t really conflict with who High elves are as a race, or culture, while deciding to be a void high elf comes with many lore implications that conflict with who High elves are as a modern group.
Whatever helps you sleep at night, Becky.
I’m sure the families of those murdered by orcs would disagree.
I’d ask the families of those personally murdered by Lord Garithos, but those dont exist cause he didnt do that, even at his worst.
“Void elves that look like like high elves are simply void elves who chugged blue Gatorade and bleached their skin.”-Joke…or is it?
It’s cope.
Yes, the eyes on velves are white tho. not really sure why they went with that choice in development
It does bring up an interesting point of a having a race that feeds off energy and changing eye colors. Then corrupting them with void magic. Must be weird for their race.
Here’s the thing though:
Blood elves with blue eyes and Void elves with blue eyes are not part of the “High elves” Faction.
They’re just void elves and blood elves who happen to still have the original blue eyes that their race always had until their circumstances changed. They fed off fel energies or touched the void or w/e.
But it’s always been the same race. High elves are Blood Elves who are also Void elves.
Even if we now have blue eyes in the Blood Elf and Void Elf factions - the High Elf faction is not playable.
They’re just adding in customizations that could have been there from the beginning. Maybe not all Blood Elves had their eyes turn green. Maybe not all Void Elves had their skin turn purple. Different people were affected in different ways.
Of course these customizations will allow people to RP as if they were a part of the High Elf faction or as if they’re a High Elf who have now joined Blood Elves for some reason - But really they’re not. People will still say “greetings Blood Elf” or “greetings Void Elf”.
Just like with the Wildhammer or the Sand trolls, they’re leaving it up to you to RP a different background story if you really want to be a High Elf. But there’s nothing wrong with being a Blood Elf that still has blue eyes.
