The Lord Intended No Changes

Good day, friends.

Today, I would like to talk about some of the changes Blizzard has introduced to classic. I will also demonstrate why all of these changes degenerate the classic experience.

Chronoboon Displacer: Alters the fabric of time, suspending beneficial world effects from dragonslaying, Dire Maul, Zul’Gurub, and Felwood.

This was one of the worst additions to wow classic. This item allows players who min/max raids to avoid pvp almost entirely.

The main argument pro chronoboon is this: “Well, with a chronoboon, I don’t have to log out for 6 days just so I can raid MC!!”.

The reason this argument doesn’t work is the idea of “have to”. Nobody is forcing you to log out with world buffs. Nobody is forcing you to get them at all. Players have easily killed all bosses in classic without a single world buff.

There are two reasons one might make this argument. The first is because they want to hide the fact that they do actually want a hardcore experience in raiding without potential adversity; faster kill times, better parses, etc. If this true, then it only makes sense that these players should have to put in the work to avoid losing their buffs in every facet of the game. This includes gathering them in the world. These players simply want their cake and to eat it too. The second reason is that they are simply anti-pvp.

Dual Spec

Dual spec is a feature that came into Warcraft in WOTLK that allows a player to quickly swap to a second specialization ANYWHERE they want. This is a massive issue when you think about the worldly game that Classic is.

I have yet to see any good argument pro dual spec. The main talking point is just “who cares man, it doesn’t affect you man”.

Dual spec not only affects world pvp, but also has negative effects on the economy. Dual spec is naturally inflationary due to respec costs being a gold sink. The game already has massive inflation problems from not only bots selling gold, but also the nature of looting raw silver and gold from mobs as time passes.

Dual spec is terrible for world pvp. An example of this may be a mage that can have one pom pyro spec and also a deep frost spec. Lets say you force two Ice Blocks out of a frost mage, but then he decides to polymorph you, switch specs, evocate, then pom pyro one shot you. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? This was simply unintended by the original devs

Layering

I do believe layering is somewhat necessary on the launch due to starting zone congestion. This is not to say layering should stay for a long time though. Not only does layering artificially inflate the supply of goods on the server, but also does it ruin world pvp completely, especially with the new layer cooldowns. The new layering changes will cause unintended separation of guilds that are, for example, running into Blackrock Mountain together. Another example of this terrible system is SOD. I’ve seen friends wait 20 minutes to layer over to a friend while in Stormwind to trade something.

Even if the previously described issues don’t exist (they will), layering is completely against the spirit of the worldly game that WoW is. WORLD of Warcraft. If we remove the world, and we remove the Warcraft, what are we even playing?

If you are pro any of these changes, I ask you, why not just play SOD? Why not play retail? Why not play Cata and MOP?

I used to be against the idea of layering, but with all the fixes and adjustments of layering, its now a must. It just makes release experiences SO much more manageable, not to mention it helps with availability of resources, whether node or mob. I dont want to deal with fighting 5-6k people over the 12 mobs in a camp. Pass.

Itll be fine, youll have fun tomorrow I promise

dual spec ftw

The OP is spot on in all of his analysis. We arent getting fresh, classic or vanilla. We are getting watered down SOD.

I agree, launch its somewhat necessary. I say that in the post. Remind me why we need 20 different layers for world bosses again?

You should go play SOD.

I have never seen someone so addicted to being wrong in my life.

OR Blizzard could figure out how to have a large number of players in one place without serious server and/or player experience degradation like most other MMOs in 2024.

Why don’t you just play Era it is exactly as you wish. Let the rest of us enjoy the changes #enjoyfreshchanges

Era isnt the fresh experience of everyone starting from zero? The economy on era is ruined? Era has almost as many “QOL” changes as this “fresh experience” will.

Era has boons. Era has bots. Era has UI changes. Era is not no changes lol. Era is also deep into naxx patch where pvp is pretty dead.

So I guess the question remains - if you have so many problems with how it’s going, why are you still giving Blizz money and playing? I, for one, disagree that these at all degenerate the experience aside from chronoboon - I do think that’s dumb.

Layering is truly helpful especially with only one server per type for everyone and should remain until servers get to the initial 2-3k player cap from vanilla. To say it shouldn’t is also promoting a change because that’s how big servers got back then.

The addition of dual spec will not change anything aside from players having more freedom to tank, heal, or dps. For example, I can play a memespec all I want and have a meta spec ready on the other side for dungeons/raiding. Or I can have a tank/heal spec when I can’t find a dungeon as DPS. Sounds pretty amazing tbh. I hate min/maxing and exclusion because people are playing things fun to them but that may not be the “optimal.” That also allows more players to enjoy endgame more, rather than having to spend 10 days played leveling something else up.

I hate to break it to you, but other MMOs also use a form of layering. ESO calls it sharding, guild wars refers to them as overflow maps, new world calls it overflow zones. Its there.

and you just know they’re gonna make mounts cheaper :expressionless: there’s no way these retail kids will tolerate 100g/1000g mounts.

I really hope not. I know after classic release in SOM and after it was way cheaper. Doesn’t make sense to make it cheaper in this one, i hope its not overlooked.

I can’t speak for the other changes, but as a tank in all the expansions I can say: dual spec is very welcome. Do you have no idea what it’s like to spend tons of gold to respec or even grind as a tank (and I imagine a healer). At least now we have an option to do good PVE outside of raids.
The other option was to create a new char and use him for PVE. Having twice as much work to do the same as someone who is pure DPS wasn’t cool.

warriors don’t need to respec to tank, certainly not for dungeons :expressionless:

The reason that no changes was a movement in the first place is because if you allow Blizzard to make changes, then they will just turn the game into retail. In this case its just becoming SOD lite. It’s better to not allow any changes at all, otherwise we get arbitrary changes at the whim of an out of touch developer.

Dual spec has absolutely nothing to do with min maxing, as far as Blizzard is concerned. It simply takes away from the worldly aspect of the game. You have to farm less gold, therefore participating less in the world.

All of these changes push the game more and more towards afking in the city waiting for the next raid. This is not what the game was originally intended to be.
